Triumph has come away as the most satisfying motorcycle brand in Australia. The results were tabulated through a customer satisfaction survey conducted by Canstar Blue.

It is the second consecutive year that Triumph has come out ahead in the annual motorcycle survey. Previous winners were Yamaha in 2016 and Harley-Davidson in 2015. The survey began in 2015.

Customers rated the brands based on factors such as reliability, style, handling, comfort, value for money, point-of-sale service, technology features and overall satisfaction.

The survey respondents included Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and BMW owners.

KTM was ominously missing from the survey, despite being the fourth best-selling brand behind Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki.

The website also rated helmets, gloves, jackets, boots and tyres.

Triumph scored full five stars out of five in eight categories – overall satisfaction, reliability, style, handling and comfort. The brand shares top ratings in handling with Ducati.

Ducati scored full five stars for technology, but Triumph somehow scored “not applicable” despite modern Triumphs being up to the gills in technology, especially the Tiger 800 and Street Triple range. Even the retro classic Bonnevilles feature sophisticated traction control.

  • Triumph has released another 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200 teaser video.

  • It shows the bike being ridden on the road and off-road.

  • The launch happens on 24th October 2018 (UK time).

The countdown has begun to the launch of the 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200.

Triumph Motorcycles has also released another teaser video, the fifth and perhaps the last, ahead of the grand event.

This latest video also showcases the versatility of the new bike. There are shots of it being ridden two-up on a tarmac road besides being pushed hard off-road.

Triumph was one of the leaders of off-road racing in the 60’s. The new Scrambler 1200 would return it to its off-road legacy with the promise of “never before seen levels of dual-purpose capability.” Indeed, the video shows the 1200 scrambling in the dirt; with the dust hiding the bike, of course.

Piecing together all the teaser videos revealed a little bit more about the bike. It will definitely feature the classic Triumph Bonneville silhouette, straight handlebar, flat saddle and high-mounted dual exhausts. It will be similar to its smaller 900cc Street Scrambler, but we are sure there will be many other differences to make it off-road worthy.

The Scrambler 1200 may even come ready with an underbelly skid plate and knobby tyres.

Its engine should very well be based on the High Torque (HT) version of the 1200cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-Twin with 270o crank.

We could also very well expect traction control, ride-by-wire throttle, ABS and LED lighting. The suspension will definitely be updated.

The launch is happening on early morning, 25th October 2018 (Malaysian time). Bikes Republic hopes to bring you the event “live.” If you can stay up for the English Premier League, you ought to stay up for the launch, too.

  • Triumph has updated the 2019 Triumph Street Scrambler.

  • Updates range from chassis to engine to cosmetics.

  • The update ought to make the bike even more fun.

The 2019 Triumph Street Scrambler was also launched alongside the 2019 Triumph Street Twin at Intermot 2018.

The updates will definitely up the fun quotient over the current and already super fun Street Scrambler, which is the soul successor of the TR6 Trophy used in the classic movie The Great Escape.

TESTED: Triumph Street Scrambler – “Escapism”

The 900cc, liquid-cooled, 270o crank, parallel-Twin engine is shared with the Street Twin, hence it reaps the benefit of a 10 bhp increase, along with the flexibility of a higher 7500 RPM rev ceiling.

Other updates to the engine include lighter magnesium cam cover, dead shafts and balancer shaft, in addition to a torque assist clutch which reduces lever effort and also results in a more positive feel.

Braking power has also been increased now that the bike features a Brembo 4-piston front caliper. The forks are cartridge type and spaced wider for better control. Triumph also offers an optional tyre pressure monitoring system.

Triumph updated the electrical system too, by adding an immobilizer, LED taillight and USB charging socket.

Power modes, traction control and ABS are standard. The ABS is switchable should the rider take the bike off-road.

The 2019 Triumph Street Scrambler’s has also been given new aesthetics without altering its overall look. There is a new speedometer, seat cover and number board panels and graphics.

As with the Street Twin, Triumph also offers an Inspiration Kit for the Street Scrambler. Called “Urban Tracker,” the kit includes a 25-litre pannier and mounting kit, Vance & Hines exhaust, CNC black oil filler cap, black handlebar brace, number board kit, black bench seat and dresser bar kit, headlamp grille and bezel, high level front mudguard and sump guard.

Triumph has launched the updated 2019 Street Twin at the Intermot show in Cologne, Germany.

The present Street Twin is already a fun motorcycle to ride and it’s certainly one of this writer’s favourite motorcycles. Its appeal being its simplicity hence ease of operations and accessibility to a wide range of riders. There isn’t any complaint from riders per se, but one can always do with more power.

ENGINE

  • The 2019 Triumph Street Twin’s 900cc, parallel-Twin has been massaged to produce 18% more power, raising it to 64 bhp, more specifically.
  • Maximum torque remains at a punchy 80 Nm.
  • Maximum revs have accordingly been raised by 500 RPM to 7500 RPM for more flexibility between maximum torque and maximum horsepower.

  • IT means that you’ll find the bike charging forward anytime you open the throttle without needing to downshift much.
  • The cam cover is magnesium, while the clutch and its cover have been shaved to er… shave weight.
  • Apart from these, the crankshaft, dead shafts and balancer shafts have also been lightened.

  • The clutch has been replaced with a torque assist type to lighten lever effort (it should also soften the engine’s back torque).
  • One the electronics front, traction control and ABS are standard equipment.

DETAILS/FINISHING

The 2019 version may look outwardly unchanged but look closer and you will find a host of new details.

  • Braking is now handled by a new Brembo 4-piston caliper for more stopping power.
  • The forks have cartridge inserts for better handling and feedback.

  • The cast-aluminium wheels are also new.
  • A new seat with new material and thicker padding for more comfort.

  • Classy finishing is abound as seen on the single large speedo, brushed aluminium headlight brackets, paintjob and overall detailing on the engine and other parts.

INSPIRATION KITS

Triumph also launched two “inspiration kits” along with the 2019 Street Twin.

  • The first, called Urban Ride strips down the standard bike and equips it with a brown seat, black sump guard, fender removal kit, black filler cap and intake covers, waxed cotton pannier and LED signal lamps.

  • The second kit, called Café Custom, turns the bike into a café racer with Vance & Hines pipes, Fox shocks, rear fender removal kit, black engine covers and LED signal lamps.

  • More secrets of Triumph’s 765cc triple Moto2 engine has come to light.

In case you missed the news or have just arrived from another galaxy, you would pretty be much aware of Triumph supplying engines to the Moto2 class next year. The engine is the 765 triple based on the one powering the new Street Triple 765.

Before we proceed further, please allow us to share that the Street Triple 765 (especially the RS variant) is the most fun motorcycle we’ve ever tested, credit in part to that new engine.

Okay, we’ll leave it at that.

Triumph had revealed the third and completed engine at the British GP a couple of weeks ago. Fitted to modified Daytona chassis, the bike made a parade lap while members of the British media were given the opportunity to ride the bike. (Yes, we are green with envy; even The Hulk is less green.)

Every single journalist reported huge power in terms of acceleration and flexibility (availability of power anywhere in the rev range).

But what makes the engine tick? Surely you wonder.

Speaking to MCN, Steve Sargent, Triumph’s Chief Product Officer revealed, “We needed to get more power and torque and this was done by increasing the revs and reducing inertia. A standard 765 makes 123 bhp (in the Street Triple RS) and we’re pushing this to 135 bhp and about 80 Nm.”

Wait, only 135 bhp? You ask. Remember that Moto2 took over from 250cc two-strokers that produced on 80 to 90 bhp.

He continued, “A lot of this comes from the cylinder head. We’ve worked with the ports to increase gas flow and put in titanium valves and race valve spring to reduce flutter (valve float) at high RPM.”

What is “flutter” or “valve float”? It basically describes what happens when the valves do not follow the cam lobes effectively at high engine speeds. This is one reason why an engine’s maximum power is limited. MotoGP engineers, except for Ducati, combat this by using pneumatic valve springs.

“To reduce inertia, we did simple things like removing the starter motor and starter gears. It (the race engine) also has a race-kit alternator as the race bike has much less demand for electrical power and a lighter, fully-adjustable slipper clutch.”

“We’ve also changed the gearbox ratios. The first and second are both taller now and bring the rest of the ratios closer together.”

“Another new casting is the right-hand crankcase and clutch cover. The separate cover for the clutch allows teams easier access to the tuneable slipper clutch.”

Apart from those minor upgrades, the 765 Moto2 engine is surprisingly stock! The pistons, crankshaft, conrods, cams, main engine cases and air box are all the same as the standard bike’s!

The modifications bring the rev limit from 12,650 RPM to 14,000 RPM for more power and overrev in the corners. The 2019 Moto2 bikes will also receive a new Magneti Marelli ECU which features traction control for the first time in the championship. Besides TC, the ECU also allows for launch control and quickshifter with autoblipper.

“We’re running standard rods, standard cams, standard pistons and a standard crank. All of these parts are good enough for the higher sustained rpm and mean that the engine is affordable.

“The engines will be built and maintained by ExternPro, who built all the Honda Moto2 engines previously. We will shop them a kit of parts for each engine, they build it up, dyno test it and hand it to each team.   • Triumph Motorcycles have completed the final revision of their Moto2 engine and will showcase it during the British GP.

  • The 765cc-triple engines will be supplied to Moto2 teams beginning 2019, replacing the 600cc inline-Four from Honda.

  • Triumph’s engine is expected to produce more midrange and peak horsepower.

Triumph Motorcycles will hold a parade lap during the British GP at Silverstone this weekend on a bike powered by their Moto2 engine. The event commemorates the completion of the Triumph engine which will be supplied to teams in the intermediate class beginning 2019.

The rider picked to ride the bike is two-time World Superbike Champion, James Toseland. He will ride the bike specially painted bike in the Union Jack theme.

The new engine has been warmly welcomed by Moto2 riders who have tested it as it has plenty of midrange grunt compared to the outgoing 600cc Honda inline-Four. It is also reputed to feature a quickshifter for both up- and downshifts, with an autoblipper. Additionally, an advanced Magneti Marelli ECU will be employed which bumped up the power output more than the current Moto2 engine, besides including traction control for the first time.

But do note that although it’s based on the Street Triple RS’s 765cc triple, only the engine will be supplied to Moto2 teams next year, instead of the entire bike which will perform the parade lap. This is because Triumph will not field their own Moto2 team. As per Moto2’s regulations, Triumph supplies the engines while teams such as Kalex, Speed Up, KTM, et al will produce their own frames to house the powerplant.

Triumph Motorcycles have also organized other activities such as a factory visit in Hinckley by Moto2 riders including Same Lowes, Danny Kent and Luca Marini, in addition to Moto3 rider John McPhee.

We hope this parade lap will be telecast “live” in Malaysia this weekend!
