Transalp

The all-new middleweight adventure bike from Honda, the XL750 Transalp is coming to Malaysia.

  • The Transalp features the same parallel-twin engine as the Hornet.
  • Fitted with Showa’s suspension at the front and rear with Pro-Link swingarm.

The confirmation news came from BikesRepublic’s sources in Boon Siew Honda during the launch of the new ADV160 in Penang, yesterday.

While there is no official launch date announced yet, it could possibly make its way here early 2024.

Mechanically, the Honda XL750 Transalp features an all-new parallel-twin engine that makes 90hp and 75Nm. That said, the Transalp slots in between the 74hp Tenere and 105hp 890 Adventure.

Similar to Honda CB750 Hornet, the XL750 Transalp features a 270-degree crank and a new airbox which Honda claimed to offer a low-end beat and top-end howl.

However, the ride-by-wire system has been explicitly tuned to best suit the bike’s touring and off-road ability.

Electronically, the XL750 Transalp gets four riding modes (Sport, Standard, Rain and Gravel and User), each of which can be selected while on the fly thanks to a lefthand switch cube.

Honda officially rolled out the all-new XL750 Transalp in November last year at EICMA.

The Transalp nameplate returns for 2023 with the middleweight adventure motorcycle set to go up against the Yamaha Tenere 700 and KTM 890 Adventure.

Although the bike is yet to be available in Malaysia, we understood that Malaysian might not need to wait long as the middleweight adventure is said to arrive soon.

While there’s no official word from Honda Motorcycles Malaysia, we expect the XL750 Transalp could arrive sooner than expected.

Honda has officially rolled out the all-new XL750 Transalp after months of speculation and spy shot that took place in Japan and Europe.

The Transalp nameplate returns for 2023 with the middleweight adventure motorcycle set to go up against the Yamaha Tenere 700 and KTM 890 Adventure.

The engine

Mechanically, the Honda XL750 Transalp features the all-new parallel-twin powertrain as found in the recently announced Honda Hornet.

That said, the XL750 Transalp makes 90hp and 75Nm slotting in between the 74hp Tenere and 105hp 890 Adventure.

Power is delivered via six-speed transmission combined with a slipper clutch with FFC Leaning Segment disc. Honda claimed that the new clutch design helps to reduced clutch drag torque by 30% allowing for a lighter and smoother gear shift.

Similar to the Hornet, the XL750 Transalp features a 270-degree crank and a new airbox which Honda claimed to offer a low-end beat and top-end howl.

However, the ride-by-wire system has been tuned specifically to best suit the bike’s touring and off-road ability.

The electronics

Electronically, the XL750 Transalp gets four riding modes (Sport, Standard, Rain and Gravel and User) with each of them can be selected while on the fly thanks to a lefthand switch cube.

Meanwhile, the User mode allow riders to adjust the bike’s electronics to meet their requirements. All of these features can be access via the bike’s full-colour TFT display.

Other electronic features include:

  • four levels Engine Power (EP)
  • three levels Engine Brake (EB)
  • two level ABS
  • five level Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)
  • wheelie control

In addition, both the rear ABS and HSTC can be disabled altogether for better off-road contro.

The chassis

As you can expect, Honda developed an all-new steel diamond design chassis with integrated subframe for the Transalp. As a result, the new frame tip the scales at just 18.3kg which is lighter than the CB500X.

Also the wheelbase is set at 1560mm with the rake and trail is at 27-degrees and 111mm respectively.

The bike is suspended by Showa’s 43mm separate function cartridge-type front forks and remote rear shock that runs through a Pro-Link type swingarm.

Braking is done via a two-piston callipers at the front mated to a 310mm wavy disc and a 256mm disc at the rear paired to a single-piston calliper.

In addition, the Transalp is shod with a 21” front wheel and 18” rear wheel with Metzeler Karoo Street/Dunlop Mixtour tires.

Honda’s latest patent filings have provided us with the opportunity to take a peek at what’s in store for us for the upcoming Honda XL750 Transalp.

  • The Transalp is likely to share similar specification with the Hornet 750.
  • The middleweight ADV will share the same 755cc parallel-twin engine.

This is the first time such details are revealed to the public just weeks after the middleweight adventure bike was spotted during a promotional exercise.

So far, we know that the XL750 Transalp is fitted with the same 755cc parallel-twin engine featured on the recently revealed Honda Hornet 750.

Also, thanks to the Hornet’s global unveiling, we know the engine makes 92hp and 75Nm. However, whether the Transalp will feature the same power band still remains to be seen.

Nonetheless, we expect Honda to revise the parallel-twin engine for more grunt in the low-to-mid ranges to suit the adventure bike character.

Despite the differences in characteristics, the Transalp will share the same frame as the Hornet. Such effort is common for Honda, especially for its 500cc and 11000cc range.

Based on the previous spy shots, we can also confirm that the Transalp and Hornet will share a similar front headlamp and tailpipe.

According to the Italian publication, Motoclclismo, it is likely that the two will also share similar electronics, including the TFT instrument cluster, riding modes and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)

However, the Transalp is fitted with a longer swingarm and 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, and longer suspension travel. As expected, the seat is also taller and wider.

Currently, there is no word from Honda on when the Transalp will make its official debut, but one thing is for sure it will happen soon. Stay tuned to find out!

*Timbalan Pengarah Projek Utama Honda, Fuyuki Hosokawa

The trademark filings for Honda’s upcoming Transalp were filed in several global markets in May 2021.

  • The Honda XL750 Transalp to feature the new 750cc parallel-twin engine.
  • The motorcycle will likely be a more street-biased ADV machine.

However, the latest trademark application by Honda Motor Corporation, dated 12 August 2022, has confirmed the name XL750 Transalp.

While this might not be news for some, it is actually the strongest indicator of what we could expect from the upcoming Transalp.

Firstly, Honda’s ADV motorcycle, the Africa Twin, carries the CRF1100L nameplate. The CRF is a code for the Japanese firm adventure motorcycle, meaning the bike can be taken off-road and on the tarmac.

However, considering that the Transalp bares the XL750 nameplate, this could mean that the upcoming middleweight motorcycle will likely be a more street-biased ADV machine like the previous generation.

Nevertheless, considering the explosion of mid-weight ADV bikes, the Transalp could be given some off-road treatment to compete with other brands.

Mechanically, the XL750 Transalp is likely to feature the same parallel-twin 750cc engine powering the soon-to-be-launch Hornet.

That said, Honda’s likely to launch the Hornet first with the Transalp could make its way in 2023.

Honda is set to introduce the all-new Transalp 750 soon and is set to compete in the middleweight enduro motorcycle category.

  • the new Transalp 750 will fill the gap between Honda’s CB500X and CRF1100L Africa Twin.
  • the bike will run on a new parallel-twin engine built from the Africa Twin architecture.

The Transalp 750 will compete against already popular Yamaha Tenere 700, KTM 890 Adventure, Tuareg 660 and BMW F 850 GS.

This time, new details have emerged, particularly about the engine of the upcoming motorcycle.

German publication, Motorrad Online, claimed that the Transalp 750 would feature a parallel-twin engine. While previous reports suggest that the machine is the same in the NC750X, the latest news suggests this is not the case.

Instead, the Japanese marquee developed a new engine based on the African Twin architecture.

That said, we could see the Transalp 750 appearing in two variants, standard manual transmission and DCT.

The Transalp 750 will finally fill the gap between Honda’s adventure-touring model range that includes the CB500X and CRF1100L Africa Twin.

Meanwhile, the publication suggests that the new Honda Transalp 750 will break cover at EICMA 2022.
