Rocket III

  • The new Triumph Rocket III TFC has been officially unveiled.

  • The engine is now 2500cc, producing 167hp and 221Nm.

  • Its electronics, chassis and suspension are also upgraded.

After teasing us earlier this year, besides the launch of the Thruxton R TFC, the Triumph Rocket III TFC has been officially unveiled.

Besides wearing the TFC (Triumph Factory Custom) badge, the Rocket III also claims the record as the biggest volume-production engine. Triumph upped the capacity from 2282cc to a whopping 2458cc. Thus, the new powerplant produces 167 hp and get this: 221 Nm of torque! If you’ve never pitied the rear tyre, now’s the time to do so.

However, it wasn’t just the extra cubes that contributed to the extra ponies. The manufacturer also reworked the head and gave it titanium valves. The carbon-tipped Arrow silencers also helped.

Reining in that massive power is a new electronic suite consisting of lean-angle sensitive traction control and ABS, in addition to four ride modes. Oh, there’s also a quickshifter with auto-blipper.

Other electronics include hill hold control, cruise control, keyless ignition and tyre pressure monitoring. The full-colour TFT display/instrument panel is the latest which appeared on the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE. As such, it ought to include integration with not only your phone but also your GoPro camera.

The chassis and suspension have also been upgraded. At the front are 41mm cartridge Showa forks and a rear shock with piggyback reservoir. The front brakes consist of Brembo Stylema calipers, just like those on the Panigale V4 range.

The updates have turned the Rocket III into a serious power-cruiser to challenge the Ducati Diavel and Harley-Davidson V-Rod. Gone is the sedate-looking “old man’s cruiser” with a big engine.

Before we forget, Triumph will only build 750 units of the Rocket III, priced at £22,000 each.

But will there be a regular, non-TFC new Rocket III? We’d like to think so!

  • The new Triumph Rocket III has been spied testing.

  • A new 2500- to 2800cc, 180- to 200 bhp engine is expected.

  • The new bike looks more modern and aggressive.

We reported earlier that a new Triumph Rocket III may be on the way. It is now confirmed as the prototype has been caught testing without camouflage.

Triumph was forced to stop production of the previous Rocket III due to Euro4 regulations. It is still being sold in the United States, however.

Possible New Triumph Rocket III Leaked

As with the leaked photo, the new bike features a new styling. The new design updates the Rocket from a classic to a thoroughbred power cruiser. Triumph had wanted to compete with the Ducati Diavel and Harley-Davidson V-Rod, so the new look is in the ballpark.

What We Can See from the Photos

The new Rocket III prototype seems ready for production.

The engine cylinder head cover looks new, but the starkest detail are the exhausts. There is a new 3-into-1-into-2 piping with slash-cut tips.

The engine definitely looks bigger and the capacity should see between 2500 to 2800cc. As such, we expect the power output to fall between 180 to 200 bhp.

The frame also appears to be new. As for the chassis, there is now a rear monoshock while the forks are upside down. Final drive is still shaft drive but the swingarm is now single-sided. Radial-mounted Brembo Monobloc calipers clamp on superbike discs.

In the styling department, the dual headlamps are retained but they are now LED. The taillight has been redesigned and it is also lit by LEDs. Besides that, the new bike looks beefier and more aggressive than its forebear.

If you look closer at the top of the handlebar, you can see the new TFT display which first appeared on the 2019 Scrambler 1200. In which case it ought to feature Bluetooth connectivity and GoPro camera controls.

One last note. We would love to see people’s reactions when we tell them the engine capacity is 2500cc/2800cc.

  • Pictures of a possible new Triumph Rocket III were leaked on the internet.

  • The “new bike” is styled more aggressively than its current crop.

  • It will bring the Rocket III to compete directly with the current power cruisers.

Want to ride something audacious? Something which blows your neighbour’s mind when you tell him your bike’s engine is bigger than his Honda Accord’s? Ride a Triumph Rocket III, then.

At 2,294cc, the Triumph Rocket III’s engine holds the record as the world’s largest production motorcycle engine. It produces 145 bhp, but that’s not the entire story. Because at 221 Nm, forget about “mountainous torque,” instead the torque moves mountains.

Current bagger variant

Now pictures of the “new” Rocket III have started showing up on the internet. According to Visordown, they were snapped during the Triumph Global Dealer Conference last October.

Judging from the picture, the new bike or variant will look more aggressive than the current classic-looking model. Check out the Brembo Monobloc calipers, upside-down forks, dual exhaust pipes exiting on the right, and most of all, the single-sided swingarm.

Yes, we admit too. It does look like the Ducati Diavel power cruiser.

Revamping or adding such a model is good for the Hinckley-based manufacturer as they can have a more modern-looking cruiser. It can compete with the power cruisers from other manufacturers like Harley-Davidson, Indian and the aforementioned Ducati. The timing is good too, since BMW has just teased with a new 1800cc Boxer.

We hope the new Rocket III project is a go. Watch out, mountains.
