Quartararo

In a dramatic turn of events at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Alex Rins secured a thrilling victory in the Grand Prix after forcing Francesco Bagnaia into another crash.

  • Alex Rins claims LCR Honda’s 100th podium in MotoGP.
  • Fabio Quartararo snatching first podium of the season.

The race started with Bagnaia making a brilliant start and holding off Rins into turn one. However, the factory Ducati team’s luck was short-lived as Jorge Martin and Alex Marquez clashed, resulting in crashes for both riders.

Meanwhile, Jack Miller made a significant move up the order to position himself in third, closing in on Rins and Bagnaia. However, Miller’s charge ultimately ended as he crashed out of the race on lap seven. As the race progressed, Bagnaia continued to lead despite pressure from Rins, with Quartararo in third position.

However, just like in the previous Sprint race, Bagnaia made another crucial error, crashing out of the Grand Prix on lap 14, allowing Rins to take over the lead. Luca Marini then blasted past Quartararo with eight laps remaining, showing the immense speed of his Ducati. But Rins managed to control the gap and secure his victory, just his third race for Honda.

The race witnessed three crashes in short order as Takaaki Nakagami kicked things off before Brad Binder and Joan Mir joined him. Maverick Vinales showed good pace, making overtakes on Binder and Miguel Oliveira to secure a position in the top ten.

The COTA Grand Prix provided fans with plenty of action and drama, with Rins emerging as the ultimate victor. Bagnaia, on the other hand, will need to regroup after another Grand Prix crash.

Monster Energy Yamaha has officially unveiled its latest livery ahead of the 2023 MotoGP season.

The official unveiling ceremony was done in Indonesia during Yamaha S3 Dealer Meeting.

Joining the glitzy event were Yamaha MotoGP team boss Lin Jarvis, Yamaha President Yoshihiro Hidaka, Yamaha MotoGP team director Massimo Meregalli and two lead rider, Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli.

While the Yamaha M1 still features Yamaha’s iconic blue, the fairing and nose cone of the 2023 race bike now features a distinctive dazzle-camo paint scheme.

According to Yamaha the 2023 livery is designed by legendary helmet designer, Aldo Drudi.

“I always felt our previous bike was the most beautiful and clean in the racing world, but now you will notice it’s a little bit more aggressive.

“A little bit younger. You can see some camouflage feel and this is not by accident. The [livery] has been designed by one of the top designers in our world, Aldo Drudi in Italy, and the idea is to be aggressive.

“We are going to battle! We are going to war! We are going to challenge!,” said Jarvis.

Also, the same design will be applied to every official Monster Yamaha team as confirmed by Jarvis.

“You will also see later this week a similar [livery] design in Supercross and Motocross. So this is a Monster Yamaha new look and feel,” he added.

Meanwhile, Quartararo will not only begin the new season with a new livery, the Frenchman will also donned the all-new HJC RPHA 1 race helmet.

It was a disastrous comeback for the 8-time world champion, Marc Marquez, as the rider was involved in two separate incidents which saw Fabio Quartararo and Takaaki Nakagami ousted in the early stage of the race in Aragon.

  • Bastianini claimed his third win of the season after overcoming Bagnaia.
  • Quartararo ousted in the early stage after colliding with Marc Marquez.

Marquez started the race with brilliant speed as the Honda rider moved up from 13th to sixth, coming out of Turn 1.

However, chaos ensues on the exit of Turn 4 with Quartararo riding straight into Marquez’s RC213V, and due to the intense collision, the reigning world champion crashes out.

Due to the substantial damage to the rear of Marquez’s RC213V, the Spaniard unintentionally ran into Takaaki Nakagami’s side, leading to a hair-raising incident for the LCR Honda rider.

Thankfully, Nakagami escaped from being hit by other riders.

Meanwhile, Gresini Racing Ducati, Enea Bastianini finally got the better of factory Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia to take his third win of the season.

Bastianini overtook Bagnaia in the final lap, something he failed to do in Misano just two weeks ago.

However, unlike Misano, Bastianini has better braking speed coming out of the corner and easily claimed his win in Aragon.

Nevertheless, Bagnaia should feel happy with his result as the Italian is now just 10 points behind Quartararo with five rounds to go.

On the other, Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro also made a brilliant move on KTM’s Brand Binder to claim third despite remaining behind the South African during the majority of the race.

Fabio Quartararo produced another masterclass display to win the German GP.

  • It was Quartararo’s third win of the season.
  • Francesco Bagnaia dramatically crashed out at the early stage of the race.

Bagnaia made a good start after securing the first pole at Sachsenring; however, it wasn’t enough to hold off current MotoGP champion Quartararo.

The Frenchman recorded his third win of the season to secure his championship lead with 172 points ahead of Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro (130 pts) and Johann Zarco (111 pts.)

Fellow Frenchman Zarco took his fourth podium at second-placed, followed by Ducati’s Jack Miller, who, despite being handed a long lap penalty, managed to come in third.

Nevertheless, it was a disastrous day for Ducati teammate, Bagnaia, who, despite starting the race at pole position, went down after just five laps.

It was the Italian fourth DNF this season, thus putting him further behind Quartararo in the championship standings with just 81 pts.

After the race, Bagnaia expressed his disbelief at what had happened.

“I’m trying to replay in my mind what happened, and I cannot explain my crash.

“For sure, if I crashed, it’s because I made a mistake. But in this situation, it’s very difficult to understand why.

“Looking at the data, it’s impossible to understand. I was angry like this because I can’t explain it. I’m very angry because when you crash and you know why it’s your mistake, normally I’m very self-critical.

“But today, the reason why I crashed is something I can’t explain. So it’s more difficult to understand, it’s more difficult to accept,” he said.

Mathematically, Bagnaia now needs to beat Quartararo by an average of over nine points per race to salvage his hopes of challenging the title, a daunting task over the remaining ten rounds.

MotoGP action will be back at the end of the week at the Dutch GP in Assen.

“Saya bermula baik tetapi selepas dua lap sahaja, tekanan tayar depan naik mendadak.

  • Rookie sensation Fabio Quartararo put himself and his Petronas Sepang Racing Team on pole for tomorrow’s Catalunya MotoGP.

  • It’s the fledgling team’s second pole position in their very first season in the premier class.

  • There are four Yamahas in the Top 5.

Rookie sensation Fabio Quartararo put himself and his Petronas Sepang Racing Team on pole for tomorrow’s Catalunya MotoGP.

It’s the fledgling team’s second pole position in their very first season in the premier class. What made the French youngster’s feat even more astounding was his arm pump surgery just 11 days ago. On top of that, bear in mind that he’s riding the 2018-spec Yamaha YZR-M1.

It’s also noteworthy that this round seems to show Yamaha’s resurgence. Quartararo, Maverick Vinalez (Monster Energy Yamaha), Franco Morbidelli and Valentino Rossi made it 1-3-4,5 for Yamaha. Only Marc Marquez was cheeky enough to slot into second among them.

Marquez is the crowd’s home hero but had posted times no faster than 2nd through FP4 and the beginning of Q2. But on the last flying lap of the session, he hung on to Rossi’s coattail for a tow reminiscent of his act of slipstreaming Andrea Dovizioso in Mugello two weeks ago. However, he made a mistake and hit a turn too fast, causing the front tyre to wash out. He saved the bike with his knee, but it ruined his chances of stealing the pole position.

It was visible that Maverick Vinalez was riding hard since Friday and he did enough to put himself in 3rd, thereby saving the factory Yamaha team from being embarrassed by the satellite team (again).

Franco Morbidelli was also a hero for the Petronas SRT outfit. A heavy crash in the morning saw him stretchered off the kitty litter. That meant that he had to fight his way through Q1. And fought he did by going fastest in the session to be promoted to Q2. He then set the second fastest time behind Quartararo on their first outing together, before being relegated to fourth.

Valentino Rossi had his best qualifying session in a long time and after the disaster in his home race in Mugello.

Apart from Marquez, all Honda and Ducati riders suffered at the track. Catalunya features tight, decreasing radius turns that benefit bikes with mid-corner speed and ability to hold tight lines. This played into the hands of Yamaha and Suzuki.

Dovizisio (Mission Winnow Ducati) could only manage sixth on the grid, with his teammate Danilo Petrucci behind him in 7th. Dovizioso had remarked many times that the Ducati Desmosedici doesn’t like to keep turning in mid-corner.

Alex Rins (Suzuki Ecstar) actually posted 0.200s faster than Quartararo after the third sector but crashed at Turn 10. Yet, he still qualified 8thon the grid – his best starting position ever. His teammate Joan Mir also performed well this time around, starting tomorrow’s race from 11th.

Cal Crutchlow ended the session in 9th, while Jorge Lorenzo qualified in the Top 10 for the first time since he joined Honda.

Quartararo has shown that he has the speed in qualifying shootouts but has yet to convert his strong qualifying into podium positions. It all came down to the 2018 YZR-M1’s appetite in chewing up the rear tyre over a race distance. The 2019 YZR-M1, on the other hand, lacks top speed but Catalunya may just prove to be the venue to break their duck.
