Projek LRT (Transit Aliran Ringan) di Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang dijangka bermula pada pertengahan tahun ini.

Seorang penganalisa Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd., Teh Kian Yeong, berkata bahawa kontraktor utama, Gamuda Bhd. sudah dalam perbincangan peringkat akhir dengan kerajaan untuk memuktamadkan model pelaksanaan projek terbabit.

“Ini tertakluk kepada kelulusan kerajaan, manakala Jabatan Alam Sekitar telah menerbitkan laporan Penilaian Kesan Alam Sekitar (EIA) untuk segmen LRT ini pada 5 Mac lalu.

“Projek yang dibiayai kerajaan persekutuan ini terdiri daripada kos pengambilan tanah kira-kira RM1.5 bilion dan kos pembinaan di antara RM7 bilion hingga RM8 bilion.”

Projek ini berskala amat besar, menghubungkan Tanjung Bungah di bahagian utara sehingga Permatang Damar Laut di bahagian selatan pulau. Laluan ini merangkumi beberapa lokasi penting, antaranya:

  • Lapangan Terbang Pulau Pinang,
  • Bayan Lepas dan Bayan Baru,
  • Ayer Itam,
  • Bukit Bendara,
  • Terminal feri,
  • KOMTAR (stesen utama),
  • Pulau Tikus.

Terdapat juga laluan yang menghubungi tanah besar Semenanjung Malaysia, dengan stesen utamanya di Penang Sentral, melalui hubungan terowong sepanjang 7.2km di dasar laut.

Laluan ke utara sampai ke Kepala Batas, manakala laluan ke selatan tamat di Nibung Tebal. Laluan terjauh ke sebelah timur sampai ke Kulim South dan Kulim North.

Antara lokasi penting yang dihubungkan ialah:

  • Juru,
  • Tambun,
  • Batu Kawan,
  • Lunas (kampung mendiang ayah penulis ini),
  • Bukit Mertajam.

Projek LRT ini sudah lama diidamkan oleh penduduk di pulau kerana kesesakan trafik yang makin teruk. Projek ini turut akan memainkan impak dalam kemajuan pengujung ke negeri tersebut, selain daripada mengembangkan lagi ekonomi beberapa bandar dan pekan yang dihubungi.

A Facebook user shared an unfortunate incident in which the brakes of his motorcycle were stolen in Penang on Monday.

According to the Facebook user, Zul Aziz, the brake callipers of his Honda X-ADV 750 motorcycle was stolen despite parking it at the main entrance of the hotel.

The victim also expressed disappointment with the hotel management, not only for failing to take responsibility for the incident but also for not placing enough emphasis on security, even though the motorcycle was parked right at the hotel lobby entrance.

A similar incident has occurred in the past involving a group of riders from Thailand and France.

If you are up North and looking for a new spot to ride, perhaps you might want to check out the new Bukit Kukus bypass in Penang.

At 61.5m above ground level, the new 3.3km-long stretch is the tallest road in Malaysia. The road winds around Bukit Kukus from Lebuh Bukit Jambul to Jalan Tun Sardon and Paya Terubong.

The new route also connects Paya Terubong and Ayer Itam, the most populated neighbourhoods on the island.

Not only motorist can enjoy the scenic ride, the elevated road also features a bicycle lane. At the same time, Penang City Council (MBPP) Mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang, also welcomes off-road cycling enthusiasts to enjoy the trails under the viaduct.

According to reports, the RM378.2 million project is the most expensive and largest infrastructure project by the MBPP.

Meanwhile, two private developers will complete the remainder 2.2km stretch soon.
