Pan America 1250

Reports of a middleweight version of the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 first emerged earlier this year, with the American firm mistakenly mentioning the model name in its list of accessories.

  • Harley-Davidson to add a new Pan America 975 to its Revolution Max portfolio.
  • The middleweight Pan America will powered by the same engine found in the Nightster.

According to reports, the site listed the fuel cap as being compatible with the RA1250/RA1250S (Pan America 1250/1250S) as well as RA975 and RA975S, with the latter assuming to be the Pan America models powered by the Revolution Max 975cc engine like the one found on the Nightster.

However, the latest evidence obtained by none other than Dennis Chung over at Motorcycle.com further strengthens the rumours of a middleweight Pan America 975.

This time, the proof comes in the form of an official installation instruction for a pair of side mirrors designed specifically for the Revolution Max motorcycles.

Frankly, no one can find this evidence other than Dennis, as it involved not one but nine installation instructions from Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Slovenia and Ukraine.

In addition, he also includes there service bulletins from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to back his reports.

Although the service bulletin referred to the Pan America 975 as a 2022 model year – we assumed that Harley’s initial plan was to introduce the new model this year – but due to the ongoing supply chain issue, it is likely that the plan is postponed to 2023.

One way or another, the Pan America 975 is on its way, and we are looking forward to it.

Harley-Davidson is set to put the Pan America 1250 to a proper test as the all-new adventure bike will compete at the Baja Espana Aragon.

  • the Pan America 1250 will face the scorching heat of the Teruel desert in July.
  • Joan Pedrero will pilot the stock Pan America 1250.

While the Milwaukee-based company is well known in the MotoAmerica King of the Baggers series and in American Flat Track, the brand is still unknown for its racing exploit in Europe.

However, things are about to change as Harley-Davidson will send a stock Pan America 1250 piloted by Spanish rider Joan Pedrero to the Spanish Rally.

Although the brand is mostly known for its range of cruisers, the introduction of the Pan America 1250 has taken the brand into new territory and surprisingly well accepted by not just Harley owners’ but also adventure bike enthusiast.

After establishing itself as an off-rad brand of sorts, the Baja Espana Aragon will further imprint the American brand in international racing.

The Baja Espana Aragon, regarded as the most important races in the Spanish All Terrain Rally Championship will celebrate its 38th edition between 22-24 July 2022.

According to Harley-Davidson, the Pan America 1250 will compete in the Trail category.

Harley-Davidson first adventure touring motorcycle, the Pan America 1250 Special has won the prestigous Thailand Bike of They Year Award for best ADV category.

The award was handed by Grand Prix International after the Pan America 1250 Special emerged as the best Adventure Heavyweight motorcycle in the country.

“We are grateful for this award and support from the motorcycle community in Thailand and are committed to delivering excellence to meet our customers’ demands.

“More than a century ago when many roads were little more than dirt trails, Harley-Davidson stood for adventure and continues to do so.

“We hope to encourage adventure seekers to ride more and ride further,” said Sajeev Rajasekharan, Managing Director, Harley-Davidson Asia Emerging Markets & India.

Interestingly, the Pan America was also chosen as the best bike of the show at last year Bangkok International Motor Show.

The all-new Pan America is powered by a Revolution Max 1250 dual spark VVT that produces 150hp @ 9,000rpm and 127Nm @ 6,750rpm.

According to Harley-Davidson, the unit is built from the ground-up in an effort to improve the weight distribution.

The Pan-America Special is packed with a beefy 47mm inverted fork with trick semi-active suspension, including Adaptive Ride Height adjustment.

The suspension automatically drops the bike down to 855mm once you come to a stop before returning to 890mm once you are on the move, simple yet practical for many.

Both the Standard and Special gets full colour 6.8-inch TFT touchsreen display, full LED light setup, cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, cruise control and hill control  assist.

As far as an adventure motorcycle goes, Pan America offers a 21L tank with a weight of 258kg for the Special and 245kg for the standard.

The Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 Special is available in Malaysia from RM115,900.

Harley-Davidson sold more than 2,500 units of the all-new Pan America 1250 in the USA last year.

The Pan America 1250 was the headline for Harley-Davidson ever since it was launched as a 2021 model.

The adventure bike was the company’s first-ever motorcycle that genuinely deviated from the company’s iconic cruiser lineup.

Not only the Pan America was dubbed as the company’s new future, but the motorcycle also took top honours in America last year.

While it may receive rave reviews in the US, the European press is less excited about the new bike.

Put it this way; we would rather have the BMW R 1250 GS or the Ducati Multistrada V4 in our garage before the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250.

Nonetheless, the sales figure shows that the customers are willing to shift to something new instead of relying on Harley’s typical American cruiser.

While the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 is an exciting bike, we believe that many aspects need some fine-tuning for the motorcycle to catch up against its rival in the segment.

Italian luggage specialist GIVI has finally lined up a robust line of accessories for the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250.

The Pan America 1250 can now be fitted with GIVI top case and side panniers with the help of a new rear rack, offered in anodized aluminium made to fit GIVI’s Monokey top case.

Pan America owners can also pick and choose different panniers holders to fit a couple of other GIVI side case options.

There is also a special mounting kit to help owners to install GIVI’s Tool Box on the left-hand side. Owners who like to include additional luggage with GIVI’s Tanklock or TanklockED bags can now do so with the help of a new flange to lock it in place on the fuel tank.

Owners can also upgrade to a taller windscreen that is 46 cm high and 49.6 cm wide, and it is 4.5cm more elevated than the stock unit. However, owners need to purchase a different fitment kit to aid the installation.

GIVI also offers a black engine guard made of steel tubing with 25mm diameter. Do take note that GIVI advises that the unit should be installed by a professional.

We’ve taken the Pan America 1250 Special out for a ride, and the one thing that looks shabby is the stock side stand. Worry not, as GIVI has created a robust side stand sole made of aluminium and stainless steel with a wider footprint (thank God!) than the stock.

If you are planning to add more weight and luggage, we advise you not to put so much trust on the stock side stand.

Currently, there is no confirmation when will the new product range for the Pan America 1250 will be available in Malaysia. However, we suggest that the best check with local GIVI retailers for pricing and availability.

The Harley-Davidson Pan America was the talk of the town ever since it was introduced early this year.

The adventure motorcycle was Harley’s first attempt to expand its wings to uncharted territories in an effort to reach a wider audience apart from its classic line of cruisers.

The American company introduced two versions of the motorcycle; the Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 Special, both ran by the liquid-cooled Revolution Max V-Twin engine capable of generating 150 horses.

While it is an exciting motorcycle by the looks of it (since we have yet to test it out), the company CEO, Jochen Zeitz, claimed that the Pan America 1250 Special is now the no.1 best selling adventure motorcycle in North America.

“Taking inspiration from our heritage, we wanted to create a motorcycle that redefined the adventure touring category and most importantly was designed and built in America.

“With the Pan America Special now the #1 selling ADV motorcycle model in North America, we targeted a selective expansion into adventure touring as part of the Hardwire Strategy with the goal to reach new and existing Harley-Davidson customers.

“Pan America is squarely built on our mission to deliver a timeless pursuit of adventure for our riders.

“Those who now own or have tested one of our Pan America’s absolutely love this bike – having sold out of our 2021 allocation, we are excited about what the future has in store for Pan America and for the Adventure Touring category at Harley-Davidson,” he said.

That is a bold statement indeed; however, this is where it got interesting because the American brand did not back that claim with any numbers.

While Harley-Davidson might just be pulling a stunt, the brand is clearly putting in substantial effort to reinvent itself.

The Pan America and the newly launched Sportster S (despite the ridiculous tyre size) could spell the start of an exciting journey for the Milwaukee brand.
