Norton is back in the limelight as they get ready to launch the latest 2021 Norton V4RR. This is arguably one of the most interesting superbikes in the market which have only been seen in action in road races like the Isle of Man TT. (more…)

A lot of trouble and issues have been looming surrounding one of the oldest motorcycle brands hailing from the UK, Norton. After falling into administration and having struggled with major financial issues, India’s TVS Motor Company has come to save the day the by acquiring them as one of their own. The price? Around RM87 million. (more…)

Ditubuhkan di Birmingham, Norton mula menghasilkan motosikal seawal tahun 1902 sebelum terlibat dalam perlumbaan Isle of Man TT.

Norton Dominator

Norton berdepan masalah kewangan bermula tahun 2008, tetapi diselamatkan jutawan pemaju, Stuart Garner.

One of the oldest motorcycle manufacturers in the industry, Norton Motorcycles, is currently in deep financial issues with the announcement of entering administration. It seems that they’re in deep waters when it comes to unpaid taxes to the HM Revenue & Customs of around £300,000 (around RM1.59 million). (more…)

  • The supercharged Norton Superlight SS has been unveiled.

  • It’s reputed to produce above 150 bhp while weighing only 153 kg.

  • Only 50 will be produced.

The supercharged Norton Superlight SS is going to turn the middleweight sportbike market on its head.

The small firm had promised a supercharged Superlight SS when they introduced the normally-aspirated Superlight model a year ago, so they are making good on their promises.

At its heart is a 650cc, parallel-twin with a 270-degree crank. Just like the Aprilia RS 660 was based on the RSV4 1100, the engine was actually based on the 1200cc V-four in the V4 SS. The engineers then supercharge the engine on the Superlight SS.

To compensate for the extra weight of the supercharger, the bike receives a carbon fibre frame. As a result, the bike weighs only 153 kg, which is incidentally 5 kg lighter than the base model.

Norton didn’t provide the performance figures, but BikeSocial thinks it should make “something north of 150 bhp.” The base model already produces 105 bhp.

Problem is: Only 50 Norton Superlight SS will be made.

The manufacturer surprised many when they started a crowdfunding call to raise £1 million a few days ago. But they’ve since suspended the programme within a couple days after a single investor pledged to shore up that sum. Norton is in good shape but needs some cash to build the pre-ordered bikes including the 1,000 units worth £5 million for the Japanese market.

  • Norton teams up with Breitling to create the limited production Norton Breitling Sport.

  • Only 77 will be built.

  • Both companies have long heritage in their respective fields.

Norton is the offensive as the owners seek to bring the brand up to glory. They have just collaborated with luxury watchmaker Breitling to produce the Norton Breitling Sport.

The model is based on the Commando 961. Only 77 examples will be built, so each bike will be numbered. The Breitling Sport will er… sport a different seat, paint and trim.

Since Breitling is a timepiece maker, we can expect a line of watches to match the special model. Both brands have strong heritage: Norton started building bike parts in 1898 before venturing into building complete motorcycles in 1902. Breitling, on the other hand, was founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling.

Norton boss Stuart Garner said of the partnership: “I’ve always said that the key to a company’s success is to let the brand be the brand. This has been essential both at Norton Motorcycles and Breitling. We haven’t tried to change the nature of our brands or deny their histories. In fact, we revel in those histories and take inspiration from them while focusing on the future.”

Georges Kern, Breitling’s CEO says that his brand’s parallels with Norton Motorcycles are striking. “Both companies are innovative, entrepreneurial and have powerful legacies.” he says. “At the same time, we are looking ahead toward what we at Breitling call ‘our legendary future’.”

Norton Dominator

The news comes just weeks after Norton welcomed the first owners of its new V4SS superbikes to the factory to collect their machines.

The current Norton line-up includes the V4SS, the Dominator and Commando Sport and Café Racer. The firm also debuted three new lightweight bikes at Motocycle Live, including the Superlight 650 (basically half the engine of the V4SS to suit Isle of Man TT Lightweight TT regulations) and the Atlas and Ranger which are café racer / scrambler inspired nakeds.

  • The Norton Superlight was introduced after the Atlas.

  • This new bike uses the same 650cc engine as the Atlas but has been tuned for racing.

  • The 650cc engine makes 105 bhp and the bike weighs only 158 kg dry.

The British manufacturer follows up with the Norton Superlight after introducing the scrambler type Atlas Ranger and Atlas Nomad.

The Norton Superlight is based on the same platform as the two scramblers. However, the Superlight is truly as race bike.

Yes, its engine is shared with the Atlas. It’s a 650cc parallel-Twin but with a 270crank. But instead of making 85 bhp and 63.7 Nm of torque, the Superlight’s engine is tuned to 104.5 bhp (78 kW) and 74.6 Nm of torque.

The Superlight weighs only 158 kg dry, thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre. The bodywork and wheels are made of the black gold stuff. The polished frame is by the British frame expert, Spondon.

The bike employs Öhlins NIX forks at the front and an Öhlins TTX GP at the rear. A pair of Brembo M50 monobloc calipers clamp a pair of 320mm discs. The Superlight also has a up and down quickshifter.

Traction control is IMU assisted which provides wheelie control and launch control, additionally.

The bike is street-legal and conforms to Euro 4 regulations. It costs £19,950 in the UK, if you want to have one.
