Norton To Produce 8,000 Units Motorcycle With New Factory In Solihull

Norton Motorcycles was on the brink of a total disaster under the former CEO, Stuart Garner, due to a pension scandal dating back to January 2020.

However, the British brand is now on the verge of a solid return under new ownership, India based motorcycle manufacturer TVS Motor Company.

With the current workforce currently expanded and a new model launch is in the works, Norton now seeks to produce 8,000 units of motorcycles thanks to a new facility in Solihull, West Midlands.

According to the new CEO, John Russel, the 75,000 sq. ft is build ready for future expansion and is a drastic improvement over the old Donington Hall facility.

“The environment people worked in was appalling, it’s rare for a country house with a call centre in the garden to turn into a motorcycle factory.

“So we had to move, and it became an emergency when the COVID arrived since the building did not comply with health rules.

“We are over 110 people now, and we have major capabilities that we did not have before. TVS has big ambitions for Norton.

“They want to make it the brand it should always have been and this can only be done by doing things right, therefore with investment,” he explained.

Norton is planning to bring the new Commando 961 as soon as possible.

Norton Breitling Sport Unveiled

Norton teams up with Breitling to create the limited production Norton Breitling Sport.
Only 77 will be built.
Both companies have long heritage in their respective fields.

Norton is the offensive as the owners seek to bring the brand up to glory. They have just collaborated with luxury watchmaker Breitling to produce the Norton Breitling Sport.

The model is based on the Commando 961. Only 77 examples will be built, so each bike will be numbered. The Breitling Sport will er… sport a different seat, paint and trim.

Since Breitling is a timepiece maker, we can expect a line of watches to match the special model. Both brands have strong heritage: Norton started building bike parts in 1898 before venturing into building complete motorcycles in 1902. Breitling, on the other hand, was founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling.

Norton boss Stuart Garner said of the partnership: “I’ve always said that the key to a company’s success is to let the brand be the brand. This has been essential both at Norton Motorcycles and Breitling. We haven’t tried to change the nature of our brands or deny their histories. In fact, we revel in those histories and take inspiration from them while focusing on the future.”

Georges Kern, Breitling’s CEO says that his brand’s parallels with Norton Motorcycles are striking. “Both companies are innovative, entrepreneurial and have powerful legacies.” he says. “At the same time, we are looking ahead toward what we at Breitling call ‘our legendary future’.”

Norton launches three 50th anniversary 2018 Norton Commando 961 bikes

Norton has released three 50^th anniversary 2018 Norton Commando model to celebrate five successful decades of the Commando bike.

50 units for each of the 50^th anniversary Norton Commando 961 Cafe Racer, Sport and California will be made as numbered models.

The bikes will be on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis so better be quick about it if you want one of your very own!

The Norton Commando is 50 years old! To commemorate the special occasion, Norton will be releasing three very special 50^th anniversary 2018 Norton Commando models which are the Norton Commando 961 Cafe Racer, Norton Commando 961 Sport and a brand new Norton Commando 961 California. (more…)
