MV Agusta Lucky Explorer 9.5

The MV Agusta Enduro Veloce has been launched.  It is a new MV, instead it is “just” the third name for the Lucky Explorer 9.5.

It was initially called the Lucky Explorer 9.5, as an homage to the Lucky Strike-sponsored Cagiva Elefant which won the Dakar Rally in the ‘90s. Last year, the name was then changed to the LXP Orioli after Edi Orioli who rode that Elefant to that victory. And now, the MV Agusta Enduro Veloce. Production will begin in May 2024 and are expected to arrive in overseas dealers’ showrooms before the end of the year.

As such, the current bike is the same as the aforementioned LXP Orioli.

Highlights:
  • 931cc inline-three-cylinder engine producing the 124bhp and 102Nm.
  • The engine has a counter-rotating crankshaft to reduce the crankshaft’s gyroscopic effect.
  • Fully adjustable 48mm front forks and adjustable for preload only monoshock provide 210mm of travel.
  • Brake brake calipers are Brembo Stylema, gripping 320mm discs.
  • Eight levels of traction control i.e. five for road, two off-road settings, and one for wet surfaces.
  • The rider can input whether he is using on-road or off-road tyres and the traction control system will have distinctly different settings.
  • Other electronic features such as engine braking control with two settings, launch control, cruise control, wheelie control, cornering ABS, rear wheel lift control.
  • Four riding modes (yes, they are separate from traction control), Urban, Touring, Off-Road, Custom All-Terrain.
  • Traction control data is fed into a six-axis IMU.
  • A 7-inch TFT display, and the usual MV Agusta backlit handlebar controls.
  • Colour options are any colour you want as long as it is Ago Red and Ago Silver (two tone).
  • Recommended selling price in the UK is £21,800 (RM130,789.10).

Meskipun belum lagi dipasarkan namun MV Agusta telah menerima lebih 15,000 pra-tempahan bagi dua model ADV akan datang, Lucky Explorer 9.5 dan Lucky Explorer 5.5.

Perkara itu disahkan Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif, Timur Sardarov dalam satu temu bual bersama media antarabangsa.

“Kami telah terima lebih 15,000 pra-tempahan setakat ini. Bukan setakat Lucky Explorer sahaja, terdapat juga peningkatan permintaan bagi model lain kami.

“Pada pendapat saya, sebaik sahaja kekangan pandemik berjaya diatasi, kami dapat meningkatkan jumlah pengeluaran bagi mencapai permintaan,” jelas Sardarov.

Lucky Explorer 9.5 dan Lucky Explorer 5.5 dipertontonkan kepada umum julung kalinya di EICMA tahun lalu dan bingkas mencuri perhatian sebagai model ADV sulung syarikat itu dibawah kendalian Sardarov.

Lucky Explorer Project juga mengembalikan kegemilangan jentera Cagiva pada suatu ketika dulu dengan kedua-dua varian, 9.5 dan 5.5 mengikut DNA sama.

Meskipun varian 9.5 dibangunkan sepenuhnya MV Agusta, model 5.5 pula dibangunkan hasil kerjasama dengan pengeluar motosikal China, Qianjiang Motorcycles yang juga pemegang syarikat motosikal Itali, Benelli.

Menariknya, Lucky Explorer 5.5 bakal berkongsi platform sama dengan Benelli TRK 502 seperti yang dilaporkan sebelum ini.

Buat masa ini, masih tiada tarikh rasmi bila kedua-dua model ini akan dilancarkan namun dijangka perkara itu akan diumumkan tidak lama lagi.

MV Agusta CEO, Timur Sardarov has revealed that the company received a total of 15,000 pre-orders for the upcoming Lucky Explorer range.

“We have already received pre-orders for 15 thousand units: in practice, two years of work.

“For all our models the market, in general, is receptive, we are seeing great interest from customers.

“And once the obstacles of the pandemic and the constraints on the supply chain have been overcome, we will be able to significantly raise our production levels,” said Sardarov.

Despite the Lucky Explorer 9.5 and 5.5 is only in a near-production stage, the two ADV motorcycles has received worldwide attention ever since its introduction at EICMA 2021.

The Lucky Explorer Project not only marks the Varese-based company new diverse lineup but also showcased MV Agusta’s strategic partnership with Chinese manufacturer, Qianjiang Motorcycles.

*Lucky Explorer 5.5

While the Lucky Explorer 9.5 is built entirely from MV Agusta’s new 950 platform, the 5.5 on the hand, is a direct result of the brand’s relationship with QJ Motor, sharing the same mill from Benelli’s TRK 502.

Despite the 5.5’s Chinese roots, both models will be built in Varese, Italy with Qianjiang also expected to manufacture and assemble the 5.5 range to ensure the affordability of the motorcycle for the Asian markets.

Meanwhile, Sardarov expected that the company will be able to manufacture more than 9,000 units of motorcycles in 2022, double the 5,000 units produced in 2021.

I’m here to stay, and the goal in 2025 is to bring MV Agusta on the stock exchange,” he added.

As we are about to march into the new year, motorcycle manufacturers have been busy updating their 2022 portfolio.

The conclusion of EICMA 2021 showcased a host of manufacturers proudly presenting their 2022 motorcycles, while some decided to rely on online presentation.

Despite each manufacturer’s wide range of models, the adventure segment is the one to look out for next year.

Here are the top seven all-new adventure bikes to look out for in 2022:

1 .Aprilia Tuareg 660

Aprilia’s officially unveiled the 2022 Tuareg 660 in November and instantly became a hit among ADV fans.

Weighs at just 186kg, the Tuareg is set to become a fan favourite thanks to Aprilia’sAprilia’s latest 660cc parallel-twin with a 270-degree crank engine.

Despite being detuned to make 80hp and 70Nm, it features a host of technological advancements, including Aprilia Performance Ride Control (APRC), traction control, riding modes, engine brake settings, and cruise control that can be accessed via a 5″ TFT display.

Equipped with a 21″ and 18″ front/rear wheel, the Tuareg 660 is definitely one of the top ADV bikes to look out for.

2 .Husqvarna Norden 901

The Norden 901 is definitely one of the most beautifully designed ADV bikes ever built by Husqvarna, despite its first attempt at building a dual-purpose motorcycle.

Underneath the sick fairing sits an 890cc parallel-twin engine (taken from KTM’sKTM’s 890 Adventure) that makes 103hp and 100Nm.

Despite sharing the same engine with the 890, the Norden features taller suspension travel from the WP Apex suspension setup, 215mm and 220mm, as opposed to KTM’s 200mm.

The Norden 901 also come equipped with traction control, cornering ABS, auxiliary LED lights and a quickshifter.

With a 19L tank, the Norden 901 is definitely should be on your list if you’re looking to get some range week in week out.

3. Benelli TRK 802

There has been no shortage of middleweight adventure bikes debuting at EICMA, and the upcoming Benelli TRK 802 is the most surprising.

Continuing the success of Benelli’sBenelli’s TRK 502 that debuted in 2015, the TRK 802 makes a good 76hp and 67Nm @ 6,5000rpm.

As usual, the TRK 802 is a bit underpowered and a bit overweight (dry weight rated at 226kg) to be a hardline competitor of the other European and Japanese models; however, it makes a strong offerings thanks to its design and ridiculously affordable price tag.

Moreover, you get decent specs, including Brembo’sBrembo’s brake, a full LED light setup with DRL and a fancy 7-inch TFT display.

4. MV Agusta Lucky Explorer 9.5 & Lucky Explorer 5.5

MV Agusta has officially announced its first attempt into the adventure-bike scene with the introduction of two near-production prototypes at EICMA 2021.

The Lucky Explorer 9.5 features a new 931cc 3-cylinder powerplant that makes 123hp and 102Nm, while the Lucky Explorer 5.5 is equipped with 550cc parallel-twin engine co-developed with a Chinese manufacturer, Qianjiang Motorcycles.

The two motorcycles also adopt the same Lucky Strike-inspired colours featured on the iconic Cagiva Elefant.

The 9.5 comes with two transmission types: a Rekluse automatic clutch and a semi-automatic electronic actuated transmission similar to the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin DCT’sDCT’s.

5. Triumph Tiger 1200

 

Triumph Motorcycles has officially unveiled its top of the line Tiger range with the heavily updated Tiger 1200.

According to Triumph, the construction of the new Tiger 1200 focused solely on creating lighter and much powerful ADV bikes with class-leading handling and specs on and off-road.

 

At the centre of the building is an all-new T-Plane crank engine that was previously introduced on the Tiger 900 range.

The all-new 1160cc powerplant now makes 147hp @ 9,000rpm (8.5hp increase than the previous generation) and 130Nm @ 7,000rpm (8Nm up).

The Tiger 1200 now features GT and Rally edition with the new Explorer version that boasts a 30L fuel tank, higher-spec kit, and added electronics.

The Tiger 1200 GT and GT Pro features semi-active Showa suspension and gets a 19-inch front and 18-inch rear cast aluminium wheel, while the Tiger 1200 Rally and Rally Pro are equipped with 21″ front and 18″ rear tubeless rims for superior off-road handling and ability.

However, the Triumph Tiger 1200 Explorer gets an impressive blind spot detection system developed by Continental, which is considered to be a huge selling point for any ADV bike these days.

6. Ducati DesertX

If your 2022 vision is to dream big, we suggest you to ‘Dream Wilder’ with Ducati’s latest addition, the 2022 DesertX.

Heavily inspired by the rally raiders that competed in the Paris-Dakar Rally during the 80s and 90s, the DesertX appears in heavy off-road elements combined with distinctive twin circular LED headlights with DRL (Daytime Running Light).

Built around an all-new steel trellis frame, the DesertX features a fully-adjustable Kayaba suspension setup, Brembo M50 callipers and Bosch Cornering ABS.

At heart sits the 937cc Testastretta 11-degree Desmodromic engine capable of producing 110hp @ 9,250rpm and 92Nm @ 6,500rpm.

Despite being fitted with the same plant as the Hypermotard and SuperSport 950, Ducati has updated the powerplant with lighter components.

The DesertX offers six riding modes comprising of Sport, Touring, Urban, Wet, Enduro and Rally. Riders can also adjust the power modes accordingly.

Looking at how Ducati saved the DesertX for the last after introducing the Multistrada V2, Streetfighter V2 and the updated Panigale V4 S, it is safe to assume that the Borgo Panigale factory is putting high hopes for the new machine.

Berbanding Lucky Explorer 5.5 yang bernadikan enjin parallel-twin 550cc, Lucky Explorer 9.5 pula dihidupakn enjin 931cc 3-silinder yang berupaya menghasilkan 123hp pada 10,000prm dan 102Nm pada 7,500rpm.

Menurut MV Agusta, enjin 931cc tersebut diambil daripada enjin 800cc 3-silinder yang terdapat pada Brutale 800, Dragster 800 dan Turismo Veloce namun dengan bore dan stroke yang telah diperbesarkan.

Selain daripada dilengkapi skrin TFT 7″, Lucky Explorer 9.5 ini juga datang dengan dua jenis transmisi klac automatik Rekluse dan transmisi separa-automatik elektronik yang menyamai transmisi DCT pada Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin.

Selain itu, model ADV ini juga didatangkan dengan swingarm aluminium, tayar 21″ depan dan 18″ belakang serta jarak antara tayar 1,580mm.

Sementara itu, maklumat lebih terperinci mengenai model prototaip ini akan diumumkan kemudian pada hari pelancaran yang dikatan akan berlaku tidak lama lagi.

Despite MV Agusta yet to reveal any production date, reports suggest that the Lucky Explorer will be 2022 models.

Meanwhile, the larger Lucky Explorer 9.5 features a new 931cc 3-cylinder powerplant derived from MV’s 800cc range, while the Lucky Explorer 5.5 was born from the Italian firm partnership with a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer Qianjiang Motorcycle, the owner of Benelli and QJ Motor.

The Lucky Explorer 5.5 features a 550cc parallel-twin that is said to be the basis of every entry-level MV Agusta’s bike in the future.

Born from the Italian firm 800cc triple, MV Agusta has increased the bore and stroke and adopted a new crankshaft and cylinder head to build the new 931cc engine.

The engine has also been tuned to deliver better torque than power, with a claim of 123hp @ 10,000rpm and a 102Nm @ 7,000rpm.

While it may be in its prototype stage, the Lucky Explorer 9.5 resembles the upcoming Ducati DesertX.

Interestingly enough, the DesertX runs on 937cc Testaretta V-Twin, similar to the Lucky Project 9.5 931cc triple.

The bike also adopts the same Lucky Strike-inspired colours featured on the Cagiva Elefant, which is not a coincidence as both MV Agusta and Ducati were owned by the Castiglioni family back in the day.

The 9.5 will also come with two types of transmission, a Rekluse automatic clutch and a semi-automatic electronic actuated transmission similar to the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin DCT’s.

Other exciting features include:

  • 21″ front wheels and 18″ rear wheels
  • 1,580mm wheelbase

Developed in collaboration with Qianjiang Motorcycles, reports suggest that the Lucky Explorer 5.5 prototype shares the same engine and frame from Benelli’s TRK 502.

However, MV Agusta developed the 550cc parallel-twin by increasing the bore and stroke to 70.5mm x 71mm from the TRK’s 69mm x 66.8mm.

Nonetheless, the overall design of the 5.5 is miles ahead of the TRK 502, and it also features higher specifications, including a top of line Brembo brakes.

Despite no announcement being made regarding the availability of the two motorcycles, we can safely assume that we are going to see them soon enough.
