Kymco has successfully established itself as one of the world’s best scooter manufacturer.

  • Kymco CV3 now available in the UK for GBP11,999 (RM64.5k).
  • The three-wheeled scooter runs on the same 550cc parallel-twin engine found in the AK550.

The Taiwanese motorcycle manufacturer recently took to EICMA show to showcased its 2023 lineup including the radically designed CV3, a three-wheeled maxi-scooter.

For starters, a three-wheeled tilting scooter is not a new thing as there are others that also offers similar design and practicality.

However, the Kymco CV3 goes beyond anything we’ve ever seen before, primarily due to its sharp styling and aggressive bodywork.

For instance, the CV3 sports a split LED headlight upfront and a large windscreen which significantly improves the bike’s capability to go for a long-distance touring.

At the back, there is a big and comfortable space for the pillion including a back rest.

Of course, the main highlight of the CV3 is the sophisticated front end that looks similar to Yamaha’s Niken that combines quad front forks – two on each side – and two 13-inch wheels. Meanwhile, the rear wheels is fitted wiht a 15-inch wheels.

Mechanically, the CV3 is equipped with the same engine found in the high-performance AK550 maxi-scooter. That said, it runs on a 550cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine that makes 52.7hp @ 7,500rpm and 55.6Nm @ 5,500rpm.

Other key features include a 6-inch full colour TFT instrument cluster, cruise control, keyless ignition and heated grips.

The Kymco CV3 is now available in the UK for a base price of GBP11,999 (RM64.5k).

Styling update is a common practice for production motorcycle as it ensures the bike remain relevant for the forthcoming year.

  • The RevoNEX and SuperNEX concept gets new styling at EICMA.
  • No official launch date is announced for the two electric concepts.

However, KYMCO took a different approach; instead of updating its current production motorcycle, the Taiwanese manufacturer used the EICMA show to update the SuperNEX and RevoNEX electric motorcycle concepts.

The SuperNEX made its first appearance in 2019, and not long after that, KYMCO unveiled the RevoNEX naked motorcycle. At the time, no official launch date was released to the public.

Fast forward to November 2022, KYMCO decided the two electric concepts needed a significant freshen-up. Unfortunately, the firm is yet to give us a launch date!

Nevertheless, the RevoNEX and SuperNEX gained extensive styling upgrades from the previous model, including a more aggressive front end and a cleaner overall design.

Strangely, both motorcycles now feature a unique hexagonal ‘skin’ made of matte finish plastic. Frankly, it looks weirdly fascinating, but as mentioned earlier, KYMCO remains tight-lipped about the release date.

So the question on everyone’s mind is, will the RevoNEX and SuperNEX ever going to make their way to production anytime soon?

We’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Taiwan motorcycle manufacturer, Kymco has dropped the company’s latest patent drawings of the highly anticipated RevoNEX electric motorcycle.

  • The latest leak confirms the bike’s ABS.
  • The previous patent leaked shows that the RevoNEX will feature Ohlins suspensions and Brembo brakes.

Kymco has been known as a scooter-maker, with the Ionex i-One as the most recent product introduced by the company.

While the company builds its scooter range in Taiwan, production for the upcoming RevoNEX will be done in Italy.

However, the bike has yet to enter production after more than two years.

Nevertheless, the latest patent leaks have confirmed that the geared electric motorcycle is indeed on its way, and this time it tells us that the RevoNEX will feature an ABS.

We know from the previous leaks that the RevoNEX will feature Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes, but thanks to the latest report by Super Moto 8, it is confirmed that those brakes will feature ABS.

The ABS will be positioned at the front of the bike and sits above the electric motor and in front of the battery.

Although the patent drawings did not show a gearbox, the report suggests it will appear on the final drawings later.

Currently, Kymco is still keeping mum about the official launch date but looking at how the progress is moving at a steady pace; we think it might take a couple of years before we could see it in production.

Kymco rolls out two new adventure scooter for the European market with the new DTX125 and DTX300 set to join the DTX360 introduced back in 2020.

  • The DTX125 and DTX300 is introduced to meet the demand of young and beginner riders.

  • Features similar ‘adventure scooter’ aesthetic like the DTX300.

  • The DTX125 makes 13hp while the DTX300 pumps out 23.1hp.

The adventure scooter market has expanded ever since Honda brought upon the X-ADV 750 and ADV 150.

Kymco also joined the fight with its DTX360, introduced back in November 2020, features knobby tyres, a 12.4L fuel tank and weighs 195kg.

However, for 2023, the Taiwan-based company is expanding the DTX range with a new 125cc and 300cc variants to cater the beginner riders.

The DTX125 features a similar off-road aesthetic to the DTX360 but carries a 125ccc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that makes 13hp @ 8,750rpm.

Thanks to the smaller mill, the DTX125 is also lighter, at just 176kgs, making it the perfect ‘adventure scooter’ for first-time riders.

Meanwhile, the DTX300 also features similar styling to the DTX360 and serves as a middle ground between the 125 and 360.

Nevertheless, the DTX300 gets a 276cc liquid-cooled, a two-valve single-cylinder engine capable of churning 23.1hp @ 7,500rpm.

Despite the country of origin, the DTX125 is surprisingly pricey for a 125cc scooter, starting at EUR5,640 (RM26.6k), while the DTX300 retails for EUR6,640 (RM31.3k)

LiveWire will soon expand its current range of electric motorcycles with the LiveWire Del Mar,  joining the already available LiveWire One.

Harley-Davidson CEO Jochen Zeitz officially said that the first LiveWire S2 middleweight electric motorcycle would roll out in Q2 of 2022.

According to reports, the S2 will pack serious power density and feature an integrated inverter and an onboard charger.

Moreover, it will also utilize LiveWire proprietary and scalable Arrow motor architecture.

Interestingly, LiveWire will also introduce the S3 lightweight two-wheelers soon and share the same but scaled-down version of the Arrow architecture.

The LiveWire S3 will be produced in partnership with Taiwanese scooter manufacturer KYMCO.

While further details remain scarce, the S3 could also be the company first electric scooter.

However, these are just speculation, but the prospect of Harley-Davidson having an e-scooter in the company portfolio would seem preposterous a few years ago.

Nonetheless, all we know for sure is that LiveWire has partnered with KYMCO in the development of the S3 lightweight motorcycle.

Imagine having a scooter which you will never have to refuel again. All it asks is that you recharge it whenever needed, and will get you where ever you want in an urban setting.

We are talking about the new Kymco Like 125 EV.

With a near retro design, the Like 125 EV is capable of giving you a range of 199km on a single charge. It is powered by a 3,200 watt motor that gives the rider around 4.3 horsepower.

It has 27-litres of underseat storage, which is enough to store three batteries, which when combined, gives the 125 EV its spectacular range.

The batteries are from Kymco’s own Ionex battery technology, which the company claims needs just one hour to charge.

And if you wondering about battery fade, Kymco says each battery will be able to be charged roughly 1000 times over its lifetime.

What is the Ionex Battery?

Kymco introduced the Ionex as a response to Gogoro’s electric scooters complete domination of the Taiwanese market.

According to The Taipei Times in March of 2021, Gogoro sold 345,190 electric scooters as compared to Kymco’s 19,215.

This prompted Kymco’s president to announce that the Ionex will be a spin off brand to Kymco, much like Ducati’s Scrambler.

In Taiwan, the brand is known simply as Ionex, but around the world, it is known as Kymco Ionex.

One of the key factors to the success of both Gogoro and Ionex is the use of swappable battery stations. This is perfect to counter range anxiety, and is ideal for delivery riders who can simply walk in, swap batteries and get on their way again.

And so Ionex too has been rolling out swappable battery stations of its own, and plans to have 4,000 stations around Taiwan by the end of 2022.

To ensure it meets its target, Ionex has partnerships with four major local companies: President Chain Store, Chunghwa Telecom, Fubon Insurance, and Carrefour Taiwan.

All four existing companies have multiple locations around Taiwan, and provide the ideal location for Ionex swap stations to be built.

Back to the Kymco Like 125 EV

And it is this model that will ensure the success of the Kymco Like 125 EV, in Taiwan at least. But around the world, its good looks and feature packed body will increase its appeal.

The Like 125 EV weighs in at just 94 kilograms, and is able to connect to smartphones via an application to access information such as speed and battery levels. The display is of course fully digital.

As for its price, the Kymco Like 125 EV costs about 1,200 Euros, which is less than RM6,000, making it the perfect solution to urban mobility.

It is unlike that this model will be introduced in Malaysia since the charging infrastructure is still in its infancy, but for our readers based elsewhere – this is quite a good solution to electric urban mobility.

Menurut Kymco, AK550 ST ini akan dipasarkan antara suku pertama dan kedua 2022.

Kymco will participate in the 78th Edition EICMA scheduled from 23 to 28 November in Milan.

Kymco has developed quite a strong impression in the two-wheel industry, thanks to its range of performance-oriented scooters.

The company participation was confirmed by Stefano Gianotti, legal representative of the Padana Sviluppo Group, whose subsidiary, KMI Italia Srl, is responsible for distributing the Kymco motorcycles in Italy.

“It is a pleasure for us to confirm the presence of Kymco at EICMA even in such a particular and challenging year.

“After the forced stop of 2020, it is important to give a signal to restart and return to normality, and EICMA is a symbolic event not only in the two-wheel sector but also throughout the world of exhibitions and events at an international level,” he said.

The Taiwanese motorcycle and scooter manufacturer now joins Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Benelli, Royal Enfield and MV Agusta at the world biggest motorcycle exhibition.
