KTM 890 Duke

When KTM announced its Midweight NAKED February campaign, we got excited as we were confident the Austrian company was set to kick off 2022 with some exciting news with two new models.

Unfortunately, the first bike was just a 2022 890 Duke R revised with a cooler Atlantic Blue base colour, lifted directly from the 1290 Super Duke R.

The 2022 890 Duke R continues to offer the same engine and same specifications as the previous generation.

We hoped for better news coming from the Mattighofen factory for the second bike, but sadly KTM delivered another blow with the 2022 890 Duke GP.

While it carries the GP badge, the new bike is just a brushed up version of the ‘base’ 890 Duke and is characterized by a single-rider seat (also available on the R) and “new” MotoGP-inspired graphics.

Other “upgrades” include an orange-painted rim and rear subframe.

Like the 2022 890 Duke R, the specifications remain unchanged, as the 889cc twin-cylinder LC8 engine continues to pump 115hp and 92Nm.

The 890 Duke GP also features the same WP Apex suspension, 6-axis inertial platform that controls onboard electronics function, including cornering traction control, cornering ABS, and riding modes.

KTM begins its ‘Midweight NAKED February’ by unveiling the 2022 890 Duke R.

The new model year comes with an all-new Atlantic Blue base colour, lifted directly from the KTM 1290 Super Duke R.

The colour is also reminiscent of the palate used on the KTM RC16 MotoGP bike.

Nevertheless, the signature orange frame continues to offer a weird yet perfect contrast of colours, which only KTM can deliver.

First introduced in 2020, the KTM 890 Duke R continue to be the undisputed champion of the middleweight naked bike category.

Underneath the new paint job sits the famous 890cc parallel-twin engine that boasts an impressive 121hp and 99Nm.

The KTM 890 Duke R remains a no-nonsense middleweight naked bike, equally capable of tackling twisty corners on normal roads as it is on the racetrack.

Dubbed The Super Scalpel due to its lightning-fast steering geometry, the KTM 890 Duke R continue to feature a tubular steel chassis and adjustable WP Apex suspension.

The 890 Duke R is equipped with Brembo Stylema callipers, 320mm front disc, and adjustable Brembo MCS master cylinder to counteract the enormous power.

Meanwhile, the 890 Duke R also comes with Michelin Power Cup 2 tyres that ensure a reliable grip on every asphalt surface.

The 890 Duke R also features a host of electronics wizardly, which includes:

  • Cornering ABS
  • Cornering MTC (traction control)
  • 6D lean-angle sensor (roll, pitch & yaw)
  • Riding mode (Rain/Street/Sport and Track)
  • 9-levels adjustable traction control slop
  • anti-wheelie
  • throttle control settings

As always, a full range of KTM PowerParts has been developed to allow owners to personalize the 890 Duke R accordingly.

According to KTM, the 2022 890 Duke R will soon find its way to the dealership worldwide.

KTM wil roll out not one but two 890 Duke range in February which includes the 890 Duke R and 890 Duke GP.

According to reports, the Austrian firm will unveiled the 890 Duke R on February 7th followed by the grand-prix inspired Duke GP on February 22nd.

While we can already picture how the KTM 890 Duke R will turn out, the 890 Duke GP is still a mystery.

However, it is safe to assume the 890 Duke GP to get premium race-spec component, similar to the KTM RC 8C track bike but without the bespoke features.

KTM is calling the two bike launch as “Midweight NAKED February” , meaning the possibility of a full fairing motorcycle is not on the cards, yet we believed the Duke GP will feature some race bike components.

The two models could also offer fresh new colourways, with KTM might go crazy over the GP variant.

Your prayers have been answered as the folks at Mattighofen is currently working on a road-legal version of the previously track-only KTM RC 8C.

The Austrian company recently made a wave with the so-called ‘track-only and ‘limited-edition RC 8C; however, it left many fans a little bit disappointed.

However, in the latest development, KTM is finally making a road version of the RC 8C, as proven by these spy shots shared by a German publication, motorradonline.de.

The road version looks excellent despite missing out on the vibrant KTM orange featured on the track-only RC 8C.

Looking closely, the bike features the same swingarm and frame found in the 890 Duke, replacing the bespoke frame available on the RC 8C track machine. A reasonable move, considering the frame is too expensive to produce in mass.

While the fairing seems similar to the RC 8C, it’s hard to figure out in detail how the bike would turn out at the end.

Nonetheless, considering that KTM will not feature at this year EICMA, it’s hard to tell when will the bike be unveiled, but we’ll be sure to bring you all the latest updates, so stay tuned!

It is always interesting to find manufacturers taking a different approach in promoting their current motorcycle range.

KTM, for example, just launched an 890 Duke Tech 3 MotoGP Replica Edition with only 100 units of these bad boys produced exclusively for the French market.

The Tech 3 MotoGP Replica edition is based on the standard 890 Duke but injected with a fancy get-up consist of a MotoGP paint job, a belly-pan, Akrapovic exhaust system and a pillion seat cover.

However, it still runs with the powerful 889cc LC8 parallel-twin engine capable of producing 115hp and 92Nm found on the bone stock 890 Duke.

Surprisingly, despite being an ultra-rare machine, the limited-edition machine cost just 1,300 Euros more than the standard 890 Duke. In our book, that is a great deal!

Unfortunately, these limited-edition motorcycles are only available in France, the home base of Tech3 who are currently competing in MotoGP with KTM headed by Herve Poncharal.

  • launch control
  • fork depan (USD) WP Apex 43mm
  • monoshock dengan preload boleh laras
  • tayar Continental ContiRoad

KTM has finally introduced the 2021 KTM 890 Duke as the permanent replacement for its 790 Duke which comes with better power output, riding ergonomics, and electronics. It took a while for them to launch this since the 890 Duke R was revealed way back in April last year, but better late than never. (more…)
