Kawasaki ZX-4R

In a thrilling announcement, Kawasaki is commemorating the 40th anniversary of its iconic Ninja range by introducing a lineup of special edition motorcycles. These exclusive bikes come with retro-inspired paint schemes and a range of unique features that are set to captivate motorcycle enthusiasts and collectors alike.

This landmark celebration extends beyond just the Kawasaki ZX-10R; it reaches out to other remarkable models within the Ninja family, including the Kawasaki ZX-4RR and Kawasaki ZX-6R. Notably, the ZX-4RR made its initial appearance in its standard configuration earlier this year, making its 40th-anniversary edition even more anticipated.

The grand reveal of these motorcycles is scheduled for later this year at the EICMA show in Milan. At this event, they will make a bold statement with their ’90s-inspired green, white, and blue paint schemes. These colors, reminiscent of Kawasaki’s iconic livery from the 1990s, have enjoyed a triumphant resurgence in recent years. The factory Kawasaki team in WorldSBK showcased them at the 2022 Argentinian round, and the official Kawasaki UK team in British Superbikes, FS-3, has consistently adorned their bikes with these iconic colors for the past two seasons.

The resurrection of this classic paint scheme infuses the motorcycles with a powerful sense of nostalgia, paying homage to Kawasaki’s storied racing heritage. To further underline the significance of the 40th anniversary, each of these bikes proudly displays special badging on their fuel tanks. While the livery is tweaked slightly to match the distinctive bodywork of each model, it is a testament to the meticulous design and attention to detail.

In addition to the 40th-anniversary models, these special edition motorcycles will be introduced alongside the existing 2024 color options for the ZX-10R, ZX-6R, and ZX-4RR, providing enthusiasts with an exciting array of choices. The pricing of these exclusive 40th-anniversary versions is positioned to make them an irresistible option for avid fans of the Kawasaki Ninja series.

Kawasaki has once again raised the bar in the world of motorcycling, and these anniversary editions are sure to create waves in the industry, cementing the brand’s legacy for another 40 years and beyond. However, it is not yet know which markets these models will be offered in.

We knew that a bigger version of Kawasaki’s ZX-25R is on its way and it will be called the ZX-4R.

  • Kawasaki Indonesia to launch a new motorcycle on October 1, 2022.
  • The motorcycle is likely the new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R.

We also knew that Kawasaki has filed a trademark application of the ZX-4R in various countries including in North America and Asia, signalling the arrival of the new motorcycle.

What we don’t know is that Kawasaki plans to introduced the ZX-4R much sooner than we predicted.

According to a new teaser video posted on Kawasaki’s Indonesia social media account, there is a new Ninja ZX on its way this October.

To be fair, the 30 second video provides little hints aside from revealing the ZX nameplate.

So far, Kawasaki already updated its current ZX range, including the ZX-25R, ZX-6R and ZX-10R.

That said, the new product launch is likely to be the upcoming Ninja ZX-4R inline-four motorcycle.

If the reports are true, then we have something to be excited about for 2023.

The highly anticipated Kawasaki ZX-4R looks to be on its way, as confirmed by the latest reports.

Talk of a new 400cc inline-four sports bike has been around for quite some time, ever since the introduction of the quarter-litre ZX-25R.

Japanese publication, Young-Machine – known for getting the latest insight for Japanese motorcycles – has made the ZX-4R its latest cover for April with a render that is likely to be close to the final product.

The headline also suggests that Kawasaki is prepping for an official reveal very soon.

While the ZX-4R is somewhat related to the ZX-25R, the former will follow the ZX-10R design, prominently the sunken headlight and the air-duct.

Reports also suggest that the new bike will feature premium components, from Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), USD forks and riding modes.

We have yet to secure any information regarding how much power it might produce, but rumours have that it could be around 75hp and above.

The Kawasaki ZX-25R is almost a walk down memory lane, taking us back to the glory years of the 4-cylinder screamer of the 80s and 90s.

Although we have yet to see the bike making its way to Malaysia, we are still hopeful that it just might, under the new management of MODENAS.

Nevertheless, Kawasaki is already working on another tempting machine in the form of a more powerful 400cc version, retaining the high-reving appeal of the original 1990 ZXR400.

The rumour first came out during the global introduction of the ZX-25R itself; however, reports in Japan have confirmed that the ZX-4R is sure to be launched soon.

Moreover, Kawasaki already filed a patent in 2019 showcasing a design that states “preferably applied to a vehicle having four-cylinder 400cc engine.”

Based on a rendered image shared, the upcoming ZX-4R is expected to be fitted with the same components from the existing ZX-25R, including the tubular steel frame and the banana swingarm.

According to reports, the ZX-4R will feature a revamped front and headlights, heavily inspired by the latest ZX-10R superbike together with the ZXR400 paint scheme.

Since the ZX-25R makes 50hp @ 15,500rpm with Ram-Air, the ZX-4R could churn out close to 80hp.

Just a few days ago, the good people at Young Machine claimed that Kawasaki is planning to develop a bigger version of the ZX-25R.

However, a recent report has confirmed the rumour based on the patent from the Japanese company.

The patent focused on the motorcycle fairing design with an integrated duct to redirect air around the radiator.

Although the image depicts what looks like the ZX-25R, the patent revealed an additional air cooling due to the high-revving nature of the engine.

Since the ZX-25R has a high redline of 17,000rpm, the enlarged ducts would help to increase the cooling factor without the need to increase the size of the radiator.

Moreover, the documents stated the new invention is preferably applied to a vehicle with a four-cylinder 400cc engine hence referring to the rumoured ZX-4R.

Currently, there is no official confirmation coming from Kawasaki regarding the 400cc machine, but since Young Machine made the claim, you can’t help but feel excited by the new development.

Building on the success of the ZX-25R, Japanese motorcycle manufacturer, Kawasaki is planning to develop a 400cc version dubbed the ZX-4R.

According to reports by Young Machine, Kawasaki is planning to develop the new model by increasing the bore of the ZX-25R, changing the piston and the crank and pairing it to an updated ECU.

Although this is purely speculation Young Machine rarely gets it wrong and we expect the inline-four version of the motorcycle will produce higher power and torque than the current Ninja 400.

Despite the ZX-25R already making wave around Asia including South East Asia, the bike is yet to make its way to Malaysia.

Nevertheless, a 400cc version of the ZX-25R is definitely something to be excited about.
