Husqvarna

The news regarding the arrival of a more extreme version of Husqvarna’s Norden 901 first broke out in July 2022.

  • An extreme version of Husqvarna’s Norden 901 to land in 2023.
  • The “Expedition” could borrow much of its features from KTM’s 890 Adventure R.

At the time, dealers were given a private showing of a prototype version of the motorcycle.

However, the latest European type-approval documents have confirmed that the motorcycle is set for the 2023 unveiling.

Despite the bike’s first image already making its way to social media, Husqvarna is yet to make any official announcement.

Since the base Norden 901 is based on KTM’s 890 Adventure, we expect the “Expedition” version to use the 890 Adventure R as its basis. That said, it could feature a WP Xplor 48mm inverted front fork with 240mm of travel and a WP Xplor rear shock.

Also, the document confirms that no change is done to the engine meaning the Expedition gets the same 889cc LC8c parallel-twin engine that makes 103hp @ 8,000rpm.

However, the wheelbase is longer due to the longer front fork, while the bike’s overall weight also increases from 220kg to 229kg.

Based on the videos shared on Facebook, the Expedition stands apart from the standard Norden 901 thanks to new paint and graphics, soft luggage and alloy shields.

MotoGP legend, Max Biaggi has decided to shutdown his Sterilgarda Husqvarna Max Racing Moto3 team after four years.

  • Max Biaggi is heavily linked with a move to RNF Aprilia MotoGP team for the 2023 season.
  • Sterilgarda Husqvarna Max Racing to exit Moto3 by the end of 2022.

The announcement came at the back of John McPhee and Ayumu Sasaki taking top two podium position at the Malaysian MotoGP on Sunday.

The four-time 250cc Grand Prix champion and two-time Superbike World Champion (WSBK) titleholder recalled the team achievement in the last years.

“A wonderful double, after a very difficult period, in which it was necessary to make painful decisions.

“We started the World Championship Moto3 four years ago and every year we got at least one win. In the debut year there were even three, like this year.

“We had the pleasure and honor to bring three different drivers back to victory and we brought a young driver to the first victory. All this fills me with pride and satisfaction. We started very far away and after a few years we set up a winning team, but now for me the time has come for new challenges.

“Valencia will represent the last race in Moto3 of the Max Racing Team. I want to thank Sterilgarda Alimenti, which has always supported me, Husqvarna Motorcycles, KTM and all those who in recent years have contributed to achieving these results,” he said.

In addition, the 51-year-old also hints looking forward to the next project in 2023.

Reports suggest that his next destination is to join Razlan Razali’s RNF Aprilia MotoGP outfit where he will assume the role of Technical Advisor.

MotoGP rookie, Darryn Binder will make the switch to Moto2 next season, riding for the Liqui Moly Intact GP Team.

Darry Binder is left without a premier class spot after RNF decided to move with

The South African will make his debut in Moto2 after skipping the intermediate class by moving straight from Moto3 to MotoGP with RNF Racing this season.

Binder joins Intact GP after he was left without a premier-class seat for 2023.

The 24-year-old will teamed up with newly-crowned Moto2 European champion Lukas Tulovic as Intact GP received new backing from Husqvarna.

Meanwhile, team principal, Jurgen Lingg is looking forward to the new partnership and new riders ahead of the 2023 season.

“We are very grateful to Husqvarna Motorcycles for the trust they have placed in us. This merger is a new and an exciting step for our team, ushering in a new era.

“We have a new brand, new riders and a new direction. In 2023 the bikes will change colour and we are all motivated and convinced that this change will take us forward,” he said.

Meanwhile, RNF will no longer participate in the premier class as Yamaha’s satellite team but instead moving with Aprilia machinery next year.

RNF Racing will run with an all-new line-up of Migeul Oliveira and Raul Fernandez.

Calling all adventure riders, the all-new Husqvarna Norden 901 has officially land in Malaysia with a recommended selling price of RM98,800 excluding road tax, insurance and registration.

  • the Norden 901 features the same 890cc parallel-twin engine taken from KTM’s 890 Adventure.
  • Husqvarna claimed the company first ADV bike makes 103hp and 100Nm.

The Norden 901 officially made its bow in November 2021, two years after the Swedish company unveiled the concept at EICMA.

Build based on the KTM 890 Adventure platform, the Norden 901 carries a different styling set than its Austrian cousin.

It has a more extensive body panel than the 890 Adventure, thus making it a proper dual-purpose bike for long-distance touring.

Nonetheless, underneath the fairing sits the same 890cc parallel-twin engine that makes 103hp and 100Nm.
The Norden also features a 21″ front and 18″ rear wheel paired with a tubeless Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR.
Moreover, it also comes equipped with taller suspension travel from the WP APEX suspension setup, 215mm and 220mm, as opposed to KTM’s 200mm.

If you fancy some electronics, the ADV bike comes with three standard riding modes (Rain, Street and Off-Road) but should you fancy ‘exploring the world’, Husqvarna offers the option “Explore” mode. (Which we thinks is another fancy name for Touring mode).

Other exciting features include:

  • quickshifter
  • slipper clutch
  • traction control
  • cornering ABS (with off-road mode)
  • auxiliary LED lights
  • 19L tank

Swedish motorcycle company Husqvarna Motorcycles has partnered with Google and Unreal Engine to introduce a new configurator for the company FC 450 flagship dirt bike.

  • Husqvarna partners with Google and game engine developers Unreal Engine to produce a new configurator.
  • The configurator allow prospective owners to create a dirt bike that meets their need.

According to Husqvarna, the new configurator will allow its FC 450 riders to set up their prospective bike accordingly.

While motorcycle configurators are not new features, this will be the first addition to Husqvarna’s dirt bike range.

For those outside the gaming spectrum, Unreal Engine is a 3D computer graphics engine developed by Epic Games. They are also the game engine behind MotoGP, Ride, MXGP and Supercross videogames, allowing gamers to enjoy life-like graphics.

The configurator will allow riders to try out infinite combinations to create a suitable competition machine that meets their needs.

In addition, the configurator will allow prospective customers to choose from over 150 Husqvarna Technical Accessories.

Although the configurator is currently limited to just the FC 450, Husqvarna says they will add more models in the future.

KTM’s parent company, Pierer Industrie AG bought Husqvarna from BMW back in 2013.

The Austrian firm then proceeded to unveil the Svartpilen and Vitpilen concept a year later at the 2014 EICMA show in Milan, before the production version successfully made its way to the showroom around the globe.

However, the latest spy shot has confirmed that the Svartpilen is getting a significant update soon.

While the prototype may look similar to the current generation of Svartpilen, the new generation model sports different styling cues.

The test mule features a rectangular TFT dash – similar to KTM’s – new radiator panels, new side sections and a redesigned tank mount to carry luggage.

While the previous Svartpilen tank section flows straight to the side of the rider’s saddle, the new generation features a more exposed subframe.

At the tail sits a new conventional license plate holder instead of the previous swingarm-mounted unit.

Husqvarna also wholly redesigned the steel trellis frame and swingarm, which shares similarities with KTM’s Duke prototypes.

Nonetheless, the next-gen Svartpilen continues to use WP Apex front fork and ByBre brake callipers.

Moving on to the best bits, the Svartpilen will run on the same single-cylinder platform; however, the photos showed what could be a prototype motor as it shares no visible components with the current 373cc engine.

While the exact capacity is still unknown to us, reports suggest it features a similar-looking engine spotted in the KTM Duke test mule.

Other notable changes include an underbelly exhaust, replacing the side-mounted pipe on the previous generation Svartpilen.

Pierer Mobility AG recent investor presentation reveals the company is currently working on an all-electric motorcycle.

Dubbed the KTM E-Duke, the electric motorcycle is similar to Husqvarna’s E-Pilen Concept unveiled in April last year.

According to reports, the KTM E-Duke will share the same powertrain as the E-Pilen, consisting of the 10kW electric motor and a 5.5kWh fixed lithium-ion battery.

The KTM E-Duke will also share the same platform with the E-Pilen, including a similar claimed range of 100km.

However, the presentation also revealed that the KTM E-Duke would not feature a swappable battery pack even though the company had signed the swappable battery consortium with Honda, Piaggio and Yamaha last year.

Meanwhile, the E-Duke is slated for launch in 2023 alongside the E-Pilen.

Nevertheless, while the E-Duke and E-Pilen offer an entirely different design, we expect the two models to feature the same chassis, specifications, and electronic components, just like the Vitpilen/Svartpilen are based on KTM’s Duke range.

Husqvarna was working on a prototype Vitpilen 1301 back in 2016 but despite the motorcycle garnered a lot of attention, the neo-retro hypernaked project went quiet.

However, latest reports has emerged in Europe showing the big-bore Vitpilen is back in the game and is currently undergoing road testing.

While the 2016 prototype was heavily influence by Vitpilen’s design language, the 2022 model ditched the bodywork. Instead, the overall look resembles KTM’s 1290 Super Duke sharp styling.

Although the Vitpilen 1301 continues to feature the same futuristic circular headlight, it now comes with new composite subframe, the same component available on the Super Duke. Not only that, the test mule also adopts the 1290 single-sided swingarm.

While some might argue that the Vitpilen 1301 is just another rendition of the 1290 Super Duke, but looking at how good the Husqvarna Norden 901 turn out to be when it came out (despite it was built based on KTM’s 890 Adventure), we’re pretty sure the big Vitpilen will offer the same encouraging vibe.

Currently, further details remain scarce but reports suggest that the Husqvarna is schedule for release in 2023.

According to Husqvarna, the Norden 901 will be available as a 2022 model year beginning November.

KTM has finally acknowledged the common slave clutch issue affecting most of the KTM LC4 690cc single-cylinder engines.

The Mattighofen factory has issued a worldwide recall of KTM and Husqvarna motorcycles that feature the LC4 engine.

The matter at hand focused on the gasket on the clutch slave cylinder that may have been damaged at the manufacturing stage.

The affected gasket could cause the clutch to become malfunction when the clutch lever is pulled in.

However, we are a bit surprised that it took this long for KTM to react despite acknowledging the problem since 2018.

According to the documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the US, the recall involved certain 2018-2020 models which includes:

  • KTM 690 Duke (2018-2019)
  • KTM 690 Enduro (2018-2020)
  • KTM 690 SMC R (2019-2020)
  • Husqvarna 701 Enduro LR (2020)
  • Husqvarna 701 Supermoto (2018-2020)
  • Husqvarna 701 Enduro (2018-2020)
  • Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 (2019-2020)
  • Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 (2018-2020)
