  • Scorpion introduces new Covert FX retro-style helmets.
  • The Covert FX meets the latest ECE22.06 homologation standards.

However, in recent times, Scorpion has also proven to be part of the elite, especially with the successful partnership with 2021 MotoGP World Champion Fabio Quartararo and 2022 WorldSBK Champion Alvaro Bautista.

Of course, a helmet brand doesn’t play a big part in a racer’s success on the track, but it indeed jumps on the bandwagon surrounding the racer’s achievement, thus making it widely known.

Thanks to the brand’s success in recent times, Scorpion has been able to release a new range of helmets called the Covert FX.

The Scorpion Covert FX is a retro-inspired helmet with similar vibes to Simpson and Biltwell.

Despite the retro-touch, the Covert FX meets the latest ECE22.06 safety standard thanks to its TCT fibre construct shell that offers excellent impact dissipation.

The Covert FX is also fitted with a Kwickwick3 inner lining with soft and hypoallergenic coating. Other standard features include a drop-down sun visor and adequate front, top and rear ventilation.

The Scorpion Covert FX will be available starting December 2022 for EUR249.90 (RM1.2k).

Motorcycle helmet maker, Airoh has jointly developed a product which is claimed to be capable of reducing skull fracture by 50 percent.

  • Airoh’s developing an airbag-equipped crash helmet.
  • Airoh join forces with Autoliv to create a helmet capable of reducing head injury.

The Italian brand in partnership with automotive safety firm Autoliv has developed an airbag equipped motorcycle helmet.

While the airbag technology has been around for many years, only recently the technology is incorporated into the motorcycle world.

That said, the push for making the airbag system a necessity is prevalent including motorcycle gear makers.

Recently shown at EICMA motorcycle show, the prototype helmet with airbag system is still in an early stage of development.

The premise is pretty much the same as any other airbag system. In this case, the airbag is deployed around the crown of the rider’s head when it detects a crash.

Frankly, it’s amazing how Airoh managed to squeeze the system to ensure the helmet looks ‘normal’ without any weird bulge.

According to Autoliv, the system can reduce the risk of skull fractures by 50 percent, a big claim for a system that is still under development. However, considering both parties are expert in their field, we are excited for the project too.

Helmet manufacturer HJC has introduced another pop-culture-inspired character for the brand’s flagship RPHA 11 helmet.

  • HJC celebrates another iconic character with the RPHA 11 Sonic The Hedgehog.
  • Features Sonic The Hedgehog graphics and colourway.

After the Call of Duty series, Sega’s Sonic The Hedgehog is the latest graphic to join the RPHA 11 helmet range.

Underneath the striking Sonic The Hedgehog colourway, the RPHA 11 continue to offer world-class protection with the Advanced PIM (Premium Integrated Matrix) Plus fibreglass shell.

The aerodynamic shape of the helmet blends well with the Sonic graphics, including the six-stage top vet and Advanced Channeling Ventilation System for maximum airflow.

One feature we like on the HJC RPHA 11 is the anti-bacterial MuliCool Interior that helps to get rid of moisture and ensure the helmet dries quickly.

The cheek pads are also removable and washable.

Most importantly, the emergency cheek pad system allows first responders to act quickly in case of emergency.

The HJC RPHA 11 is also fitted with built-in speaker pockets, which allows riders to install motorcycle comms easily.

According to HJC, the RPHA 11 Sonic The Hedgehog meets both DOT and ECE standards and retails for EUR629.90, which translates to RM2.8k.

, The Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) of Kerala, India, has decided to ban helmet-mounted cameras.

  • Helmet-mounted cameras is seen as distraction by Kerala’s MVD.
  • Some riders used the camera to record dangerous stunts and shared them on social media.

The details were leaked to the public from an internal memo circulated among MVD officials.

According to the documents, riders caught using helmet-mounted cameras will face a penalty of INR1,000 (RM56) with driving licenses suspended for 3-months.

Kerala’s MVD brought up the proposed ban on helmet-mounted cameras last year. The department claimed that the equipment could distract riders, leading to accidents.

However, in the latest report, the ban is an effort by Kerala’s MVD to crack down on riders recording their dangerous stunts and sharing it on social media, which could lead to others imitating the same stunt.

Nonetheless, riders may still be allowed to mount their cameras elsewhere – handlebars or jackets – as some riders still need the recorded videos, which can be used as video evidence in case of accidents.

HJC has established itself as one of the top brands in the motorcycle industry thanks to the firm vast array of helmets.

  • The HJC RPHA 11 now comes in Toothless, Green Goblin and Punisher graphics for 2022.
  • The RPHA 11 is HJC’s most popular and highly seek helmet thanks to its menacing designs like Venom, Carnage and Joker.

However, what sets HJC apart from the rest is perhaps the multitude of graphics to pick from. The Korean-based company is famous for its themed helmets from the likes of Marvel, DC, Disney and Pixar.

Currently, the company’s flagship RPHA 11 helmets comes in Captain America, Deadpool, Monster Inc, and, not to forget, Star Wars graphics.

This time, the already impressive repertoire of cartoon and superhero characters will join by three new graphics.

Marvel characters, Green Goblin and Punisher, including Toothless from the movie How To Train Your Dragon, are the latest lineup for 2022.

The Green Goblin showcased the most vibrant graphics among the three new designs, combining the classic green and purple colours associated with the iconic villain from Spiderman’s franchise.

While the Toothless graphics look cute and clean, the iconic Skull logo from The Punisher is robably our favourite. The overall design looks neat and, most importantly, bad-ass.

Currently, there’s no word when will all three new graphics make its way to our shores but once they do, we be sure to let you know about it!
