Chinese-Built Harley-Davidson 338R Edges Closer To Production

Harley-Davidson’s first small capacity motorcycle has been in the pipeline for almost three years.

The 353cc motorcycle is built in partnership with a Chinese firm, Qianjiang Motorcycle.

While some suggest that the plan is scrapped after Harley’s latest Hardwire strategy, the latest reports by Motorcycle.com reveals the opposite.

According to the new update, the bike will be called the Harley-Davidson 338R and is inching closer to launch thanks to a unique vehicle identification number (VIN) decoder information that Qianjiang submitted to the U.S National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The VIN decoder information revealed that the bike would carry a 353cc parallel-twin, fuel-injected and liquid-cooled engine.

There will be two models available – both to be produced in China by Qianjiang – with one a base model and the other equipped with ABS, as reported by Motorcycle.com.

While the submitted documents prove that Harley’s is planning to embark on a new adventure in the small capacity motorcycle segment very soon, it is still impossible to say when we might see the finished product.

However, it remains true that the Harley-Davidson 338R is edging closer to production soon.

Harley-Davidson 338R patents revealed – only for Asian market?

Someone did some digging around and they’ve managed to get their hands on some patents and a spy shot on what looks like the pre-production version of the Harley-Davidson 338R.

We were a bit confused when QJMotor released some shots of its upcoming QJ350 with the H-D stamp on the engine case, but we can now confirm that this is the look that they’ll be going for its first ‘baby’ Harley-Davidson. (more…)

Imej Paten Harley-Davidson 338R Untuk Pasaran Asia Didedahkan

Baru-baru ini, tular imej ‘spyshot’ yang memaparkan jentera Harley-Davidson hasil kerjasama dengan Qianjiang Motor (QJMotor).

Imej intipan tersebut bagaimanapun hanya memaparkan bahagian sisi kanan jentera dengan nama 338R dan lencana Harley-Davidson ditayangkan.

Bagaimanapun, rekaan 338R kini tampil lebih jelas menerusi imej paten yang telah difailkan kepada China’s National Intellectual Property Administration pada Disember tahun lalu.

Difahamkan, Harley-Davidson telah dinamakan sebagai pemegang hak rekaan tersebut.

Paten itu mendedahkan rekaan keseluruhan 338R yang seakan disuntik dengan elemn flat track.

Meskipun mengguna pakai enjin dan kerangka sama dengan QJ350 namun jelas terdapat perbezaan ketara.

Jika dibandingkan, 338R menampilkan tempat duduk yang lebih rendah terutamanya bagi penunggang dan pillion dengan tangki turut kelihatan lebih kurus namun dengan kapasiti yang besar seperti jentera QJ lain.

Bahagian lampu depan LED pula datang dengan bentuk bulat termasuk panel meter yang dijangka hadir dalam bentuk digital TFT dan diposisikan di sebelah kiri seperti Ducati Scrambler.

Meskipun tidak dapat dipastikan bila jentera ini akan dipasarkan namun dijangka Harley-Davidson 338R ini akan hadir sekitar tahun 2021.
