Energica

Ali Abdo, an adventure rider from Egypt, has set a new Guinness World Record for the world’s longest journey on an electric motorcycle.

  • The Energica EVA EsseEsse9 is a high performance electric motorcycle.
  • The EVA EsseEsse9 makes 80kW and 200Nm.

The 38-year-old travelled 12,749 kilometres across Europe on his trusty and reliable Energica EVA EsseEsse9 for 30 days.

The journey ran from 10 October through 8 November, which he completed by arriving at the COP27 climate change conference held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

During the journey, Abdo’s visited several universities, schools and sports clubs to raise climate change awareness.

Despite the achievement of setting a new Guinness World Record, spreading the word about climate change was the proudest moment for Abdo and his team.

Aside from the new record, Abdo also has two more accolades. Firstly, he recorded the most incredible distance ever on an electric motorcycle in 24 hours, which was 919.87 kilometres. Next, he recorded the longest journey by electric bike in a single country.

Abdo’s next project is to ride from Egypt to the UAE to attend COP28.

Electric motorcycle manufacturer Energica Motors is set to enter the Indian market to expand its brand exposure whilst reaching for a bigger audience.

  • Energica to enter India by 2024 with a wide range of electric motorcycles.
  • Energica Motor will establish a partnership with an existing India-based motorcycle firm soon.

Although the Italian firm is still considered small compared to larger and established two-wheel companies, penetrating the Indian motorcycle market within the next two years is the most likely option to compete with more prominent players.

Considering India is the single most significant motorcycle market globally, seeking growth in the region makes sense for Energica.

That said, Energica Motor CEO Livia Cevolini admitted that it is essential for the company to seek the right partner and get the timing right.

According to reports, Cevolini already spoke to multiple potential Indian partners.

“We have a couple of very big manufacturers (from India) interested in working with us and we have also some other requirements for our own brands from importers.

“India is a very is huge it’s the biggest market so we want to be ready for that. We don’t want to rush and make mistakes, so we are taking our time to be sure that we are entering the market the right way and also have the right partners.

“You cannot go to a market like that (India) alone, if you are not from there.

“You need to have the right partner to be to have bigger shoulders and the good thing is that it seems that we like each other because we have many contacts in India and it is a really exciting partnership,” reveals Cevolini.

However, the biggest hurdle Energica needs to overcome is trying to sell high-performance and premium-priced electric motorcycle to a market that focuses on entry-level and smaller displacement two-wheelers.

  • Frame and rear-subframe
  • Panels and wheels
  • Final drive system (including transmission)
  • Gates Carbon belt drive,
  • Ohlins USD cartridge forks,
  • Ohlins RSU,
  • Brembo M50 monobloc callipers
  • Triumph Motorcycle control software

Energica Motor Company managed to secure record-breaking order from Taiwanese importer, Russ Tiger Enterprise Co. Ltd.

The order is the highest in the Italian company history, including all the Energica line-up models, for a total of EUR836,000 (RM4.1 mil).

Taiwan has seen a massive demand for electric mobility.

It is estimated there are over 91,000 electric-powered motorcycles in the country; hence, it comes with no surprised when Energica commercial partner, Russ Tiger is seeking to promote the Italian brand in Taiwan.

“Electric vehicles are the trend because of environment protection. Besides, the weather and Taiwan environment are also suitable for electric bike riders,” explained Russ Tiger Enterprise CEO, Russ Tai.

According to Russ, Energica status as a Moto3 supplier is one of the factors behind the high demand of the brand in Taiwan.

It’s not all bad news during this COVID-19 pandemic. There are a lot more infected Malaysians getting better as we move forward with the Movement Control Order but in the world of motorcycling, Indonesia is celebrating a new benchmark with a new distribution deal signed with Energica Motor Company. You know it’s a great start for the new year when you receive more orders in the first eight weeks of 2020 than the whole of 2019. That’s exactly what’s going on with Energica and their increasingly popular range of electric motorcycles. (more…)

  • Motorcycle sales rose 7.2% in Europe, but 49% of those are electric motorcycles.

  • Many manufacturers have started to showcase their products at Intermot.

  • The top electric motorcycle maker, Energica launched a new sport model.

Motorcycle sales in Europe has risen 7.2%, but 49% of those sole are electric motorcycles.

Out of the 49%, two of three electric two-wheelers are urban-oriented electric pedal-assisted mopeds and scooters, however. Electric motorcycles, on the other hand, makes up only one in four but the trend is on the uptick.

The growth is significant, and manufacturers have started to showcase many electric motorcycles at the recent Intermot motorcycle show in Cologne, Germany. They fit virtually every intended segment.

Stand: Kumpan, Halle 7

The most well-known electric motorcycle of the moment has to be Energica, who will supply eighteen Ego Corsa race bikes for the 2019 MotoE World Cup. The series will be held at selected MotoGP rounds. The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) will also take part with a team of their own.

The Energica Ego Corsa took centre stage at the show, which happens to be the Italian company’s first visit.

The Ego Corsa is powered by a synchronous oil-cooled motor, providing a continuous power of 160.8 bhp (120 kW) and a whopping 200 Nm of torque. That kind of power pushes the bike from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 270 km/h. (Still think electric bikes are slow?) There is no transmission and clutch, as power control is regulated by the Ride-by-Wire system.

Energica also unveiled a black version called the Ego Sport Black at the show.

So this begs the question: When will our government be serious in pushing for green tech? Many countries around the world, including those less developed than Malaysia will have the infracstructure in place within the next decade.

Where are we? Still slinging dirt and pointing fingers at each other in the Parliament.
