Ducati Multistrada V4

Episod ketiga Ducati World Premier 2022 yang disiarkan malam tadi mempersembahkan sebuah lagi model baharu menerusi Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak.

  • cornering ABS
  • lean-sensitive traction control
  • wheelie control
  • Ducati DQS (quickshifter)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control Bosch

Last year, we witnessed the unveiling of the new Ducati Multistrada V4 at the 2021 Ducati World Premier.

Fast forward into August, the Multistrada V4 is nearing its official launch for the Malaysian market as Ducati Malaysia has finally accepting pre-bookings for the V4S variant.

Starting with the design, the new 2021 Ducati Multistrada V4 still carries that iconic Italian ADV bike looks where form blends exceptionally well with function.

At the front, the headlight is inspired by the very sporty Panigale series thanks to its full-LED setup and daytime-running lights with cornering illumination functions.

You’ll also see a strange square box embedded upfront, which is the bike’s internal radar system linked to its Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Detection systems.

A more sporty appeal is seen on the sides thanks to those wind-shaped curves that not only looks superb but also helps to increase stability as well as provide thermal and aerodynamic comfort.

This also helps with the overall riding ergonomics due to its slim subframe for ‘greater control and riding pleasure.

The heart of the new Multistrada V4 lies a 1,158cc Ducati Granturismo V4 engine that puts out 170hp at 10,500rpm and 125Nm of torque at 8,750rpm.

Features like a counter-rotating crankshaft (MotoGP inspired) and dedicated gearshift (Panigale V4 inspired) offer even more versatility, especially with its shorter first gear and longer sixth gear.

  • Safety features includes:
  • Riding Modes
  • Power Modes
  • ABS Cornering
  • Ducati Traction Control
  • Ducati Wheelie Control
  • Daytime Running Light
  • Ducati Brake Light

The 2021 Ducati Multistrada V4 comes in three different variants: the base V4, V4 S, and V4 S Sport.

The V4 S comes in Ducati Red and Aviator Grey with the option to choose between spoked or alloy wheels; meanwhile, the V4 S Sport comes in the Sport Livery and Akrapovic exhaust system.

Ducati recorded strong growth for the first 6-months of 2021, with over 34,485 units of motorcycles sold worldwide.

According to the Bologna-based manufacturer, June was the best month ever with 8,598 units sold, which helps the company to set a 43 per cent increase over 2020.

“The month of June was the best-ever for the company, confirming the positive trend that began with the excellent second half of 2020 and with the significant growth in the first quarter of this 2021.

“Despite the great complexity recorded in the supply sector and transport, with delays in deliveries and a scarcity of various raw materials, and the difficulties generated by the many lockdowns experienced in these first six months of 2021 in various parts of the world, Ducati recorded truly significant growth, exceeding pre-Covid values by almost 10%,” said Francesco Milicia, VP Global Sales Director Ducati.

Australia led the push with an 82 per cent increase, followed by Italy (55 per cent), Japan (53 per cent) and North America (51 per cent).

Interestingly, the Multistrada V4 continues to receive the highest demand, thanks to its all-new radar technology.

The all-new Monster, which arrived in April, also showed excellent numbers, including the Ducati Scrambler 800 range and the super-naked Streetfighter V4.

The Multistrada V4 is yet to be made available in Malaysia due to the current Movement Control Order (MCO); however, we think the official unveiling is happening soon.

Just six months after officially unveiling the all-new Multistrada V4, Ducati has recorded a milestone of 5,000 unit sold.

The Multistrada V4 number 5,000 was purchased by Karl-Heinz Lebenseig from German, who ordered a V4 S Sport version from a Ducati dealer in Ingolstadt.

Lebenseig received a sculptural reproduction of the Multistrada V4 together with a personal letter certifying the motorcycle’s serial number to celebrate the occasion.

The Multistrada V4 is an all-new Ducati adventure touring machine powered by the new Gransturismo V4 engine.

The new engine now records service intervals at every 60,000km as Ducati opted for a conventional valve spring instead of the iconic desmodromic valve that previously sits at every 30,000km.

Interestingly, the Multistrada V4 has Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot monitor thanks to the radar technology planted at the front and rear of the motorcycle.

The Ducati Multistrada V4 is yet to be launch by Ducati Malaysia; however, we understand that the motorcycle is already here pending the official launch.

Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak Edition was first spotted testing in March this year on a public road.

However, this time around, the Italians are testing the new motorcycle at a European track.

Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak Edition Spotted – Single Sided Swingarm, 17″ Front Wheel!

Like the current Multistrada V4, the Pikes Peak Edition shares the same design scheme, except the special edition comes with 17-inch wheels compared to the 19″ found on the standard model, thus making it road centric.

The Pikes Peak Edition is powered by the same Granturismo V4 engine, including a USD Ohlins fork and other electronics setup.

Another notable difference compared to the standard variant is the return of the iconic single-sided swingarm.

According to reports, Ducati will reveal the Pikes Peak Edition in 2022.

Ducati ends the first quarter of 2021 with 33 per cent sales growth compared to the same period in 2020.

According to Ducati, the Scrambler 800 range led the sales in Q1, with the all-new Multistrada V4 is the most delivered model to customers, followed by the Streetfighter V4.

Italy confirmed its position as the primary market for Ducati with 2,354 motorcycles delivered, followed by the USA with 1,723 and Germany with 1,275 units.

“The performance in the first months of 2021 is certainly very positive. Motorcycles delivered to customers in the first quarter of the year grew not only compared to 2020, already impacted by Covid, but also compared to 2019. Even more remarkable is the size of the order portfolio (motorcycles to be delivered) at the end of the quarter, which is the best ever, with an extraordinary 93% growth compared to 2020 and +135% compared to 2019. Enthusiasts are appreciating the 2021 range, and the family of Ducatisti is expanding,” said the company CEO, Claudio Domenicali.

Despite the global pandemic, Domenicali remained positive to deliver the best to its customers worldwide.

“The global market situation is positive in the world of two wheels, while the supply and transport sectors are much more complex, with delivery delays and a shortage of various raw materials.

“This makes it difficult to satisfy all the demand from our passionate customers, but at Ducati we are strongly motivated to do everything we can to reduce the inconvenience caused by this situation.

“I want to thank all the women and men who, in Borgo Panigale and in our subsidiaries around the world, are working with great commitment in this period of high seasonality,” he added.

A small number of the all-new Ducati Multistrada V4 owners has been notified in the North American market to get a full engine replacement.

According to reports, Ducati has found quality issues with valve guides on the new Granturismo V4 engine that can lead to engine failure.

The issue stems from one of the two-part suppliers that produce the valve guides for the Granturismo V4, which Ducati later discovered.

As a solution, Ducati decided to replace the entire engine of the 60 models affected around North America with a new unit that has just been built in the Ducati factory.

The owners will also be compensated in three ways;

1) 2-years free annual maintenance
2) free radar software upgrade
3) USD1,500 voucher

Ducati will introduce a Pikes Peak edition of the Multistrada V4 for 2021.

Had already offered the Pikes Peak edition for the previous 1260 Multistrada the Italian marque set to continue the tradition with latest Multistrada V4.

Pikes Peak has always been one of the most iconic streets for Ducati even after they switched from the Multistrada to the prototype, Streetfighter V4, during Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 2019.

After Carlin Dunne tragic accident leads to the ban of two wheels from competing in the Hill Climb, Ducati went ahead with the plans to introduce a Pikes Peak edition for the Multistrada V4.

No further details of the said motorcycle are being disclosed yet, however, looking back at the previous Pikes Peak edition; we can make a few guesses such as unique colour scheme and Ohlins suspension.

We have yet to catch a glimpse of the all-new Multistrada V4 here in Malaysia, but we expect the new adventure motorcycle to be introduced soon!

Ducati officially unveiled the 2021 Ducati Multistrada V4 range last month and in typical fashion, there are already a number of ways for future owners to elevate the bike’s overall riding experience. One of them is a full-system exhaust from Akrapovic designed specifically for the new Multistrada. (more…)
