In a bold leap into the future, BMW Motorrad has unveiled the highly anticipated 2024 BMW R 1300 GS, marking the dawn of a new era for the iconic GS series.

  • The R 1300 GS promises to redefine the adventure touring motorcycle segment with cutting-edge innovations and enhanced performance.
  • The new generation GS now features an all-new bodywork and advanced suspension and handling.

Revolutionary Boxer Engine

At the heart of the 2024 BMW R 1300 GS lies the legendary two-cylinder boxer engine, now more compact and powerful than ever before. Boasting a displacement of precisely 1,300 cc, this formidable powerplant churns out an astonishing 107 kW (145 hp) at 7,750 rpm, delivering a peak torque of 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm. This represents the most potent boxer engine ever to grace a BMW motorcycle.

The innovative design of the engine incorporates a gearbox positioned under the power unit and a novel camshaft drive arrangement, contributing to an impressive weight reduction of 12 kg compared to its predecessor.

Advanced Suspension and Handling

The chassis of the 2024 R 1300 GS has undergone a significant transformation. A sheet metal shell main frame constructed from steel offers superior stiffness, while the rear frame has transitioned to a lightweight die-cast aluminum structure. Complementing these changes, the new EVO Telelever front wheel guide with flex element and revised EVO Paralever rear wheel guide enhance steering precision and ride stability.

Optional electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) dynamically adapts damping and spring rates, providing exceptional ride comfort and safety across various terrains. The system even compensates for varying loads, delivering an exhilarating riding experience whether solo, with a passenger, or laden with luggage.

Versatility and Customization

The 2024 BMW R 1300 GS offers riders greater flexibility with a range of options. The adaptive vehicle height control ensures optimal comfort without compromising on dynamic handling. Off-road enthusiasts will appreciate the 20 mm increase in spring travel and an available sports suspension designed specifically for the GS.

The motorcycle introduces a standard selection of four riding modes, including the new “Enduro” mode tailored for off-road adventures. Whether traversing wet roads or seeking maximum fuel efficiency, the R 1300 GS adapts to the rider’s preferences.

Cutting-Edge Lighting

In line with BMW Motorrad’s commitment to safety, the R 1300 GS comes equipped with Matrix LED headlamps as standard. These state-of-the-art headlamps, featuring a distinctive design, illuminate the road with unparalleled clarity. LED turn indicators integrated into the hand protectors and the optional “Headlight Pro” system that adjusts the beam during turns further enhance visibility.

Enhanced Safety Features

The 2024 BMW R 1300 GS introduces the Riding Assistant option, a comprehensive safety suite comprising Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front Collision Warning (FCW), and Lane Change Warning (LCW). ACC allows riders to set desired speeds and following distances, while FCW with brake intervention and LCW enhance collision avoidance and lane-changing safety.

Diverse Model Variants

The R 1300 GS lineup offers a diverse range of options to suit various tastes. The basic variant embodies the essence of the GS legend, featuring a compact design and essential functionality.

The Triple Black variant exudes masculinity with exclusive surfaces, while the GS Trophy model, painted in Racingblue metallic with striking red and white accents, represents the pinnacle of performance and off-road prowess. The Option 719 Tramuntana variant combines cross-spoke wheels in gold with an elegant Aurelius Green metallic paint finish and meticulously crafted milled aluminum components.

The 2024 BMW R 1300 GS is poised to set new standards in the world of adventure touring motorcycles, combining heritage, innovation, and customization to offer riders an unparalleled experience. Stay tuned for more details and ride into the future with BMW’s “Next level GS.”

BMW Motorrad made headlines earlier this year when they teased the next-generation R nineT. However, at the time, the German marquee did so without revealing the technical details.

  • recent type-approval in Europe has shed light on their specifications, dimensions, and performance characteristics according to the latest report by CycleWorld.
  • the R12 nineT and the cruiser-style R12 is expected to debut later this year.

The R12 nineT, continuing the legacy of BMW’s neo-retro roadster theme, seems to be a direct successor to the beloved R nineT, incorporating modern suspension and brakes with the timeless air-cooled boxer twin engine.

Notable design elements pay homage to the iconic R90S of the 1970s. Despite BMW’s century-long motorcycle-making history since the R32 of 1923, the “nineT” name remains a testament to its enduring popularity since its introduction a decade ago, marking 90 years of BMW motorcycle production.

In terms of performance, the sportier R12 nineT retains the same 107hp @ 7,000 rpm from its 1,170cc air-cooled boxer twin as its predecessor, albeit with a slight change in the rev range. Torque peaks at 115Nm @ 6,500 rpm.

On the other hand, the non-nineT “R12” model has been type-approved in 94hp and 47hp versions (presumably to comply with A2 license laws in the UK), with no full-powered, 107 hp variant.

The R12 model achieves a top speed of 200km/h, while the 94hp version reaches 210km/h, and the restricted 47hp versions cap out at around 160km/h.

In terms of dimensions, the R12 nineT is slightly longer than its predecessor, with a height difference of less than half an inch.

Both the R12 and R12 nineT share the same twin-exit exhaust system, and their weights are quite similar, with the R12 nineT coming in at 221kg while the R12 is 230kg.

The most significant difference between the two models lies in their wheel and tire sizes, indicating that the R12 takes a more cruiser-style approach.

BMW R 12 nineT

The standard R12 nineT retains the same wheel sizes as the current model, while the R12 features a narrower, wire-spoke 19-inch front wheel and a 16-inch rear wheel.

While additional details are expected to be unveiled in the coming month, it’s worth noting that BMW may also introduce other R12 nineT derivatives, potentially replacing the Scrambler and Urban G/S models.

BMW Motorrad Malaysia returned with an electrifying spectacle as the BMW Motorrad GS Challenge 2023 unfolded over the course of a gripping weekend in Putrajaya.

  • Dedicated to pushing local GS motorcycle riders beyond their limits, saw over 180 enthusiastic participants vie for a coveted spot in the prestigious 2024 International GS Trophy Tour in Namibia.
  • Following the resounding success of last year’s edition, the BMW Motorrad GS Challenge continued its legacy of testing the off-roading prowess of riders in a challenging, unconventional terrain.
  • The event served as a unifying platform for BMW Motorrad owners and enthusiasts, fostering camaraderie under the enduring spirit of GS adventure.

Hans de Visser, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, expressed his excitement about the event’s return, stating, “We are thrilled to be bringing back the BMW Motorrad GS Challenge this year to our passionate community of GS riders here in Malaysia. Following its successful reception last year, it is a joy to see our participants experience the same freedom, power, and spirit of adventure again as they traversed through the challenging terrain, embodying everything that our GS motorcycles were designed for.”

The weekend’s activities were designed to put participants’ riding and navigation skills to the test, featuring a series of distinctive off-road challenges and an exhilarating ‘Follow the Trails’ course specially tailored for BMW G 310 GS owners.

At the culmination of Day 1, the Top 10 riders were handpicked to engage in a heart-pounding round of skill assessments on Day 2, all vying for the exclusive opportunity to participate in the ‘Follow the Trails’ (FTT) Tour of the International BMW GS Trophy in Namibia, slated for 2024. As a mark of their achievements, the Top 10 finalists were presented with exclusive prizes, generously provided by the official tire sponsor, Metzeler.

Following two grueling days of intense competition, which included an evening of fine dining and musical performances at the ‘GS Fireplace’ dinner, the standout performers emerged as the victors, securing their spots on the coveted FTT Namibia 2024 tour.

The triumphant riders, announced in no particular order, are Asmawi Bin Ali, Diwaagar A/L Tambychandran, Affendy Syed Omar, Zulkifli Bin Zainal Abidin, and Azlan Shah Bin Ahmad Suhaimi.

The BMW Motorrad GS Challenge 2023 not only celebrated the adventurous spirit of GS motorcycles but also showcased the unwavering determination and skill of its riders. These five finalists now look forward to representing Malaysia on the global stage as they gear up for the ultimate GS adventure in Namibia next year.

BMW Motorrad has taken a significant step by ordering a temporary halt in the sale of all new and pre-owned gas-powered motorcycles across North American dealerships, just days before the much-anticipated unveiling of the next-generation R 1300 GS.

However, the embargo on sales does not extend to the CE 04, BMW’s electric scooter, which remains unaffected.

The company, in an official statement, clarified that this decision is unrelated to safety concerns but rather stems from an issue pertaining to the materials used in the Evaporative System (EVAP) of their motorcycles.

The EVAP system’s primary function is to capture fuel vapors and reintroduce them into the engine’s intake, thereby preventing their release into the environment.

Specific details regarding the nature and extent of the issue have not been disclosed, but the absence of safety implications suggests that BMW may have identified a matter related to emissions compliance that could potentially impact multiple generations of their motorcycles. The precise timeline and historical scope of this problem are yet to be elucidated.

It is important to note that this ‘stop sale’ directive is considered temporary in nature. However, BMW has not provided a definitive timeframe for the resumption of sales.

Furthermore, the company has clarified that this decision is voluntary and has not been mandated by any regulatory authority. Nevertheless, dealerships are obligated to adhere to the directive, ensuring compliance with BMW’s initiative.

As September 28, 2023, fast approaches, BMW Motorrad has been steadily building excitement for its upcoming release, the R 1300 GS Adventure motorcycle.

Unlike some manufacturers who keep their new models shrouded in secrecy until the last minute, BMW Motorrad has taken a different approach, already revealing the name of this highly anticipated bike.

To herald the arrival of the new BMW R 1300 GS Adventure, the Motorrad team has opted for a unique teaser strategy. Instead of cryptic silhouettes or extreme close-ups, they’ve chosen to showcase a single action shot of the bike in the midst of an adventure, sparking intrigue among motorcycle enthusiasts.

On Facebook, the caption invites readers to “Set the pace with the all-new BMW #R1300GS?” followed by the curious eyeballs emoji. It promises more updates on the unveiling, reminding everyone to stay tuned for the big reveal on September 28th at 5 PM CEST, using the hashtag #ThePacesetter.

The teaser image, while shrouded in a splash of water, provides a subtle glimpse of what’s to come. Enthusiasts with a keen eye might spot the signature wire-spoke wheels and dual brake discs that are a hallmark of GS motorcycles. Some observant commenters on social media have even suggested that the front end appears slightly slimmer compared to the previous R 1250 GS, although it’s challenging to gauge proportions accurately due to the surrounding water in the photo.

With just a few more days to go until the grand unveiling, the motorcycling community eagerly anticipates the official debut of the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure and the adventures it promises to bring. Stay tuned for more updates and details on this exciting release.

Customization Options

For those looking to personalize their ride, BMW offers a range of optional accessories, including windshields in three variants, the M Datalogger, and the M Cover Kit. The superbike will continue to sport the iconic color combination of Light White, Racing Blue Metallic, and Racing Red.

BMW is revving up its offerings with the introduction of three new mid-range touring motorcycles — the F 900 GS, F 900 GS Adventure, and the F 800 GS.

  • These bikes are set to take the market by storm with their improved features, comfort, and power, promising an unparalleled riding experience.

Upgraded Power and Performance

All three models come with a 2-cylinder in-line engine that was first seen in 2018 with the F 850 GS. The new engine boasts a larger capacity of 895 cc, up from the previous 853 cc, delivering a powerful and emotional riding experience.

The F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure churn out 105 horsepower, while the F 800 GS produces 87 horsepower. Riders can expect quicker acceleration and a fuller torque curve for an exhilarating ride.

Designed for Versatility and Comfort

The F 900 GS stands out with its weight reduction of 14 kg compared to its predecessor. The bike is perfect for off-road action and also comes with a newly designed plastic fuel tank that’s lighter and more ergonomic.

On the other hand, the F 900 GS Adventure is designed for long-distance trips, featuring advanced optional packages for even greater performance.

Cutting-Edge Safety and Control

The new GS models offer standard features like “Rain” and “Road” riding modes, as well as Dynamic Traction Control and corner-optimized ABS Pro. For riders looking for a little extra, optional equipment like additional riding modes and engine drag torque control are available to enhance the bike’s dynamic capabilities.

Enhanced Off-road Experience

Especially designed for off-road use, the F 900 GS offers an optimized ergonomic design that includes lower footrests and a higher handlebar position. All three models also feature adjustable gearshift levers for easier operation.

Brighter, Safer, Smarter

LED headlights come standard on all three models, offering better visibility for safer rides. In addition, a large 6.5-inch TFT display provides a wealth of information and connectivity options, including phone calls and navigation. The F 900 GS also includes a multifunction holder for devices like action cams.

Stylish and Durable Design

The new F 900 GS is sleek and sporty, featuring new body parts and paint options that emphasize its dynamic performance and off-road capabilities. Its Adventure counterpart and the F 800 GS also come in attractive model variants and color schemes.

With their combination of power, versatility, and cutting-edge features, these new BMW motorcycles are poised to set a new standard in the mid-range touring segment.

BMW is set to debut an all-new motorcycle on September 7 based on latest teaser shared across various social media platform. The new adventure motorcycle, claimed to be the F 900 GS, is expected to join the ranks alongside fresh iterations of the F 800 GS and possibly, an F 900 GS Adventure.

Breaking Down the Teasers

BMW has been teasing the motorcycling community with cryptic social media posts featuring a bike shrouded in dirt, accompanied by the hashtag #spiritofgs. We took the liberty of enhancing the teaser images and were able to confirm the appearance of “F 900” behind the iconic BMW roundel.

What To Expect?

The present F 850 GS and F 750 GS models have been riding on an 853cc Twin engine. These web pages are mysteriously offline, hinting at a significant change in the pipeline. Based on our analysis, the new F 900 GS is likely to be equipped with the more robust 895cc engine found in the 2020 F 900 R and F 900 XR models. With this upgrade, BMW seems to be preparing for the stricter Euro 5+ regulations that come into effect in 2024, which include onboard diagnostics, durability testing, and noise limits.

Performance Numbers

If the F 900 GS inherits the 895cc engine, expect a state of tune better suited for off-road conditions. For context, the 2020 F 900 models boast a claimed 103hp @ 8,500 rpm and 92Nm @ 6,500 rpm. By comparison, the F 850 GS and its Adventure variant offer 94 hp @ 8,250 rpm and 92Nm @ 6,250 rpm. Given these figures, the change to a more potent engine was arguably overdue.

Future Implications

Whatever modifications the F 900 GS receives are likely to influence the F 900 R and XR models for 2025. However, the F 900 R engine will be four years old by 2024, so more comprehensive changes could also be in the works.

All eyes are now on September 7 when BMW is expected to pull the curtain on its new middleweight GS models.

The practice of western motorcycle manufacturers teaming up with Indian brands to expand their reach is nothing new. We’re seeing it quite a lot these days, especially with the recent launch of bikes like the Harley-Davidson X440 in partnership with Hero MotoCorp, and the Triumph Speed and Scrambler 400 in partnership with Bajaj.

  • BMW and TVS to continue their strategic partnership for years to come.
  • The success of the G 310 GS, G 310 R and G 310 RR is a result of a successful cooperation between BMW and TVS.

BMW is a brand that’s been doing this for quite some time – 10 years to be exact. Those of you familiar with this partnership would know that the G 310 series is the fruit of this joint venture, and it’s been quite a success for both brands thus far.

In fact, the G 310 R, G 310 GS, and G 310 RR  made up 90 percent of BMW Motorrad India’s motorcycle sales in the first half of 2023. In total, the German brand sold more than 4,000 G 310 motorcycles in the first half of 2023 alone.
