BMW is set to debut an all-new motorcycle on September 7 based on latest teaser shared across various social media platform. The new adventure motorcycle, claimed to be the F 900 GS, is expected to join the ranks alongside fresh iterations of the F 800 GS and possibly, an F 900 GS Adventure.

Breaking Down the Teasers

BMW has been teasing the motorcycling community with cryptic social media posts featuring a bike shrouded in dirt, accompanied by the hashtag #spiritofgs. We took the liberty of enhancing the teaser images and were able to confirm the appearance of “F 900” behind the iconic BMW roundel.

What To Expect?

The present F 850 GS and F 750 GS models have been riding on an 853cc Twin engine. These web pages are mysteriously offline, hinting at a significant change in the pipeline. Based on our analysis, the new F 900 GS is likely to be equipped with the more robust 895cc engine found in the 2020 F 900 R and F 900 XR models. With this upgrade, BMW seems to be preparing for the stricter Euro 5+ regulations that come into effect in 2024, which include onboard diagnostics, durability testing, and noise limits.

Performance Numbers

If the F 900 GS inherits the 895cc engine, expect a state of tune better suited for off-road conditions. For context, the 2020 F 900 models boast a claimed 103hp @ 8,500 rpm and 92Nm @ 6,500 rpm. By comparison, the F 850 GS and its Adventure variant offer 94 hp @ 8,250 rpm and 92Nm @ 6,250 rpm. Given these figures, the change to a more potent engine was arguably overdue.

Future Implications

Whatever modifications the F 900 GS receives are likely to influence the F 900 R and XR models for 2025. However, the F 900 R engine will be four years old by 2024, so more comprehensive changes could also be in the works.

All eyes are now on September 7 when BMW is expected to pull the curtain on its new middleweight GS models.

The practice of western motorcycle manufacturers teaming up with Indian brands to expand their reach is nothing new. We’re seeing it quite a lot these days, especially with the recent launch of bikes like the Harley-Davidson X440 in partnership with Hero MotoCorp, and the Triumph Speed and Scrambler 400 in partnership with Bajaj.

  • BMW and TVS to continue their strategic partnership for years to come.
  • The success of the G 310 GS, G 310 R and G 310 RR is a result of a successful cooperation between BMW and TVS.

BMW is a brand that’s been doing this for quite some time – 10 years to be exact. Those of you familiar with this partnership would know that the G 310 series is the fruit of this joint venture, and it’s been quite a success for both brands thus far.

In fact, the G 310 R, G 310 GS, and G 310 RR  made up 90 percent of BMW Motorrad India’s motorcycle sales in the first half of 2023. In total, the German brand sold more than 4,000 G 310 motorcycles in the first half of 2023 alone.

In a press release, Dr. Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad, stated, “This 10th anniversary is an impressive proof of the success and strength of the collaboration between BMW Motorrad and TVS Motor. What began 10 years ago has developed into an extraordinary success story.

“Our strong synergies have led to the development of impressive offerings in the sub-500cc segment. Since the launch, BMW G 310 R and BMW G 310 GS single-cylinder models continue to enjoy unrivalled popularity and have become a key pillar of BMW Motorrad’s worldwide success.”

Apart from the massive success that is the G 310 model range, TVS and BMW continue to work together to develop new platforms and technology to shape the future of mobility.

In particular, the recently unveiled BMW CE 02 electric motorcycle was indeed a model co-developed and designed by TVS.

In the same press release, Mr. KN Radhakrishnan, Director & CEO of TVS Motor Company said, “With the extension and expansion of this partnership towards future technologies and sustainable mobility solutions, we are also in discussions to expand our manufacturing network beyond India to cater to our future growth under this partnership, including the recently unveiled BMW CE 02.

“We look forward to working closely on developing platforms targeted towards the global urban centric markets and the uber-cool next generation of consumers,” he said.

BMW enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting the official unveiling of the upcoming R 1300 GS model, set to take place on September 28.

  • the next-generation BMW R 1300 GS is scheduled for global unveiling in September.
  • the R 1300 GS is equipped with a bigger boxer engine than its predecessor.

While the launch date is still over a month away, an inadvertent reveal on BMW’s official website has given us an early insight into the expected cost of this highly anticipated motorcycle.

This leak was initially spotted by Germany’s MotorradOnline and subsequently shared by the motorcycling community, particularly highlighted by ADVRider. The focal point of this leak was an online financing calculator on BMW Motorrad USA’s website. The calculator briefly displayed the 2024 R 1300 GS with an eye-catching price tag of USD19,590 – that’s around RM90.1k for our Malaysian readers.

What sets the new R 1300 GS apart from its predecessor? In a remarkable twist, Swiss certification documents that surfaced earlier unveiled that the R 1300 GS will be powered by an impressive 1300cc engine.

This powerhouse is projected to generate an astonishing 143.5hp @ 7,750 rpm and a peak torque 147Nm @ 6,500 rpm. This represents a notable improvement over the R 1250 GS, which has a certified output of 134.1 hp at 7,750 rpm.

The substantial performance gains can be attributed to the enlarged engine displacement and the incorporation of a comprehensive liquid-cooling system.

Intriguingly, the R 1300 GS is not the sole novelty from BMW on the horizon for 2024. The company has also officially confirmed the imminent arrival of the R12 NineT and the M 1000 XR. While information about the 2024 iteration of the S 1000 XR is yet to be revealed, it’s expected that an updated version will accompany the enhanced M variant, amplifying the excitement for BMW aficionados worldwide.

India witnessed over 15 million brand new motorcycles hit the roads in 2022.

  • Motorcycles have become an indispensable part of Indian mobility, with the nation’s landscape showcasing the significant role they play.
  • the G 310 range accounted more than 90 percent of BMW Motorrad India’s sales.

While the Indian market offers a different selection of models compared to the West, some well-known manufacturers have managed to establish a strong presence. Among them, BMW stands out for making remarkable strides in India, largely due to its G 310 model range.

The BMW G 310 series, consisting of the G 310 R, G 310 GS, and G 310 RR, has captured the Indian motorcycling enthusiasts’ hearts. Although not entirely a product of BMW, the G 310 range is a result of a collaboration with TVS, a prominent Indian motorcycle manufacturer with close ties to European brands.

BMW entrusted TVS to develop and produce these motorcycles, which were then adorned with BMW’s signature bodywork and branding before being introduced to the global market.

The G 310 lineup, known for being the most accessible motorcycles to bear the prestigious BMW badge, has become a symbol of aspiration, not only in India but also worldwide.

During the first half of 2023, BMW Motorrad India recorded a remarkable sales figure of 4,667 units, with an astonishing 90 percent of them being G 310 models. This remarkable achievement translated into a remarkable 50-percent sales growth for the Indian arm of the German motorcycle manufacturer when compared to the same period in the previous year.

The BMW G 310 series is popular for its accessibility, providing riders with an entry point into the BMW brand. Equipped with relatively basic tech, the motorcycles still deliver respectable performance for their displacement class.

Several spy shots of two BMW R 1300 GS motorcycles cruising on public roads already made it’s way online.

  • These bikes boasted numerous similar features, with one flaunting additional accessories like a robust engine guard.
  • Notably, the presence of adaptive radar, which had been speculated, was finally confirmed through these compelling photographs.

While a picture can convey a lot, it fails to capture the true essence of sound. Just as you can’t imagine the call of a bird by looking at its picture, motorcycles also need to be heard to be fully experienced.

Naturally, prospective riders are curious about the auditory character of a bike. Does it emit a resonant and satisfying rumble? Or perhaps a peculiar high-pitched burble? Does it exhibit valve chatter, indicating potential engine troubles? Although the latter concern usually applies to used bikes, the significance of sound in shaping one’s perception of a motorcycle cannot be underestimated.

To cater to the curiosity of the global motorcycling community, the esteemed team at 1000ps, an Austrian moto publication, has shared an enticing video showcasing the upcoming BMW R 1300 GS.

This video provides an immersive audio experience, allowing you to hear the distinctive sound of the motorcycle. We recommend using high-quality headphones to truly appreciate it.

With each passing day, the puzzle pieces are falling into place, giving us a clearer picture of what to anticipate from the forthcoming BMW R 1300 GS when it finally hits the global stage.

In a separate development, BMW recently celebrated a significant milestone, as the one millionth GS motorcycle equipped with a boxer engine rolled off the assembly line in Munich in late June 2023. Coinciding with this celebration, the OEM proudly announced that the worldwide premiere of the highly anticipated R 1300 GS is scheduled for September 28, 2023.

Customizer Dirk Oehlerking has marked the 100th anniversary of BMW Motorrad with a stunning creation- the R 18 The Crown.

  • He stripped down a new BMW R18 to create this unique and elegant motorcycle.
  • Oehlerking passion for individuality is evident in the self-designed aluminum sheet metal body.

The design was centered around an innovative look while maintaining a powerful, elegant, and fast appeal.

The heavy customization made it necessary to introduce a new front wheel suspension – a double-sided swinging arm with central suspension strut. Furthermore, the 8-litre fuel tank and different body parts were made of 2mm thick handmade aluminum sheet metal, making it one of a kind.

While the engine and rear suspension maintained the originality, the clutch and handbrake fittings from Magura, rear mudguard and brackets from Wunderkind, and the saddle covered in authentic leather, all added to the harmonious design.

The R 18 The Crown has a Champagne Platinum paint finish with mother-of-pearl. The BMW brand emblem is adorned with a small crown, adding to its uniqueness. The BMW R 18 The Crown will be unveiled during the BMW Motorrad Days in Berlin, from 7 to 9 July 2023.

Dirk Oehlerking’s craftsmanship has delivered a breathtaking, innovative, and majestic BMW Motorrad that will captivate the public’s attention for years to come.

BMW has recently unveiled its plans for the upcoming 2024-spec motorcycle models for the US market. While the highly anticipated reveal of entirely new models is scheduled for September 28 in Berlin, BMW enthusiasts have been treated to a sneak peek of what’s to come.

  • several 2024 models to gain Intelligent Emergency Call feature.
  • The new feature is set to enhance rider’s safety.

The 2024 lineup features a range of refreshed models, boasting new colors, option packages, and a groundbreaking addition, the Intelligent Emergency Call feature.

By providing riders with a reliable and immediate means of requesting assistance in critical situations, BMW aims to enhance the overall riding experience and instill a sense of confidence and security.

BMW is making strides in motorcycle technology with the development of illuminated winglets, according to their latest patent.

  • This innovation could potentially be incorporated into future BMW Motorrad models, including the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R.
  • The illuminated aero is aimed at reducing weight whilst enhancing visibility.

Currently, BMW’s S 1000 RR and M 1000 RR motorcycles feature turn signals integrated into their mirrors, eliminating the need for additional protrusions on the sides of the bike.

However, this solution adds weight and cost. By utilizing the winglets as turn signals, BMW aims to reduce weight and improve cost-efficiency. The LED strips in the winglets have a lower and more forward mass distribution, providing a slight advantage in terms of weight distribution.

The illuminated winglets serve a dual purpose, combining daytime running lights (DRLs) and turn signals. When the turn signals are not in use, the DRLs remain illuminated, turning off on one side only when the turn signal is activated.

This arrangement enhances visibility, especially in low-light conditions, making the motorcycle more noticeable to oncoming traffic. The wider separation of the DRLs defines the bike’s widest part, allowing for easier estimation of its speed.

In addition to the lighting elements, BMW’s patent also includes a projector light mounted on the lower surface of the winglets. This light is designed to project a puddle of light onto the ground, similar to the puddle lights found in cars. This feature enhances visibility when stopped, providing a better view of the surface on which the motorcycle’s sidestand is placed.

The patent even suggests the possibility of incorporating a transparent liquid-crystal display into the projector light, allowing for customizable patterns to be projected onto the ground.

While the primary purpose of the winglets is aerodynamic, BMW’s lighting innovation could prove to be more advantageous for riders in terms of safety. With the combination of enhanced visibility and the projection of light onto the ground, these illuminated winglets could offer significant benefits to motorcyclists in the future.
