In celebration of the 25th anniversary of its most iconic superbike, Yamaha has introduced the Yamaha R1 GYTR PRO 25th Anniversary limited edition for 2023.

  • Developed by Yamaha Motor Europe and its GYTR PRO Shop, this special edition boasts an array of upgrades, setting new standards for performance and specification within the R1 range.
  • Working in collaboration with Yamaha Motor Research & Development Europe (YMRE), the same team responsible for the development of Iwata brands’ World Superbike machines, Yamaha aims to bring World Superbike levels of specification and performance to the R1 series.

The GYTR Pro 25th Anniversary bike comes equipped with several standard upgrades to enhance its performance. Notable additions include a carbon sub-frame, a modified fuel tank with a lower center of gravity, and a Magneti Marelli ECU. The bike’s front end features Öhlins FGR front forks and a TTX rear shock with a pneumatic preload adjuster, ensuring more predictable handling and superior suspension.

Additionally, an underslung swingarm, previously developed for WorldSBK, complements upgraded Brembo braking calipers on both ends. Full carbon fiber bodywork further minimizes weight and optimizes aerodynamic performance.

Moreover, the bike offers the option to include the GYTR PRO Electronic System (GPES) module, an advanced electronics engine package providing data acquisition and control. GPES enables riders to access the latest electronic software rider aids, such as anti-wheelie, launch control, engine braking management, adjustable fuelling, and traction control.

With only 25 units scheduled for production within the European region, Yamaha bills this model as the ultimate R1. Interested buyers need to act swiftly to secure their limited-edition machine. Each bike will be assembled at the GYTR Pro Shop of the owner’s choice. Furthermore, lucky owners will have the privilege of a personalized setup, carried out by a team of Yamaha technicians, ensuring an experience akin to the treatment given to the factory’s WorldSBK riders.

As the celebration of 25 years of the R1 commences, motorbike enthusiasts and Yamaha fans alike eagerly anticipate the debut of this extraordinary machine, set to redefine sportbike performance standards.

Yamaha is set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its iconic sports bike, the Yamaha R1, with a special event at Mugello.

  • The Yamaha Racing Experience, taking place on 21-22 July, will pay tribute to the R1’s rich legacy.
  • Mugello Circuit in Italy, renowned for hosting the MotoGP Italian Grand Prix, will serve as the backdrop for this momentous occasion.

Yamaha has enjoyed significant success at Mugello in the past, with riders like Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, and Fabio Quartararo achieving triumphs on Yamaha bikes.

The circuit also holds sentimental value for Niccolo Canepa, who often participates in Mugello track days to prepare for his Endurance World Championship races.

Paolo Pavesio, Marketing and Motorsport Director of Yamaha Motor Europe, expressed pride in honoring the R1’s 25th anniversary. He described the R1 as a game-changer that has consistently pushed the boundaries of performance and innovation, incorporating cutting-edge technology and MotoGP-derived advancements.

Notably, the R1 pioneered the use of a vertically-stacked gearbox in production motorcycles, leading to improved engine design and enhanced performance.

In subsequent years, Yamaha further differentiated the R1 by introducing a cross-plane crankshaft, contributing to its distinct sound and engineering excellence. The 2015 model update embraced the aesthetic cues of the Yamaha YZR-M1 MotoGP bike, coinciding with Jorge Lorenzo’s championship-winning season. The R1M variant also brought MotoGP-inspired electronics to track enthusiasts.

While the R1 has not undergone significant updates in recent years, motorcycle enthusiasts eagerly await news of its next evolution. The

Yamaha is set to celebrate the R1 legacy next year with the potent superbike reaching its 25-year anniversary.

  • The R1 is reaching its 25th birthday in 2023.
  • The 1000cc sportsbike could received major upgrade.

That said, rumours from Japan suggest the Iwata manufacturer is looking to roll out a significantly updated R1.

The R1 received its extensive overhaul in 2015 before Yamaha’s latest changes in 2019 seem to perform fairly well, with the superbike dominating the 2021 WorldSBK season.

While it may relatively outperform the Kawasaki ZX-10RR and Honda CBR1000RR-R, the R1 could be left behind after Ducati and BMW’s recent introduction of the new Panigale V4 R and M 1000 RR.

As both motorcycles make more than 200hp, the bi-crossplane 998cc 198hp might not be seen enough to go up against the Italian and German moniker at the WorldSBK.

That leaves Yamaha with a dilemma regarding how they should proceed with the R1.

However, a Japanese publication, Young-Machine, (yes, them again), reported that a heavily updated Yamaha R1 could be well underway.

Thanks to a new render by YM, the R1 might be getting a complete overhaul of bodywork and engine development.

Also, the R1 could get an all-new aerodynamic winglet and a higher peak power from its bi-crossplane engine.

Interestingly, YM also claimed that the next-gen R1 would feature a special edition retro white and red livery, complete with a 90s typeface.

Although the new development might seem too good to be true but knowing how accurate Young-Machine usually is, we might be seeing a new R1 soon enough.

Moreover, we are intrigued to find out how Yamaha plans to squeeze more power out of its inline-four-cylinder engine, which we think is already hitting its peak.

2015 is a very special year for Suzuki as one of its most popular models – the GSX-R range, celebrates its 30th anniversary. Unveiled in 1975, the GSX-R was very successful in the racing scene, thanks to riders like the legendary Kevin Schwantz.

Thanks to all the success and fame in the MotoGP scene, the GSX-R gained a massive following worldwide. It is said that there are more than a million GSX-R owners at the moment in the world.

So, in order to celebrate this milestone event, Suzuki unveiled a 30th Anniversary edition of the GSX-R1000 superbike at the German MotoGP event last week. The main highlight about the special edition model is that it features the same paint scheme as the original 1985 750cc model.

The blue and white paintjob was also run in the weekend’s German MotoGP race on the factory racing bikes of Aleix Espargarò and Maverick Viñales. There are no mechanical changes to the bike but the new colours are a tribute to the original GSX-R750 machine that kick-started the now famous GSX-R name.

According to Suzuki, the bike will be a full production machine and will go on sale globally from November.

The Suzuki GS series was Suzuki Motor Corporation’s first full range of 4-stroke road bikes, launched in 1976 in 750cc guise; which then expanded to include smaller GS550, GS1000, GS125 and GS1200SS models over the years. However, it was the 750 and 1000cc models that drove development on the race track and led-to the development of a new breed of motorcycle; the GSX-R.
