  • The British MotoGP 2019 saw Alex Rins (Ecstar Suzuki MotoGP) pip Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) at the finish line for the victory.

  • Rins won by just 0.013 second, the closest finish in MotoGP history.

  • Fabio Quartararo and Andrea Dovizioso collided and crashed.

The British MotoGP 2019 saw Alex Rins (Ecstar Suzuki MotoGP) pip Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) at the finish line for the victory.

Marquez, Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha) and Rins stormed off the grid at the start, but it didn’t take long for Marquez to lead the race. Rins didn’t take long to overtake Rossi for second position not long after. He chased down Marquez and started shadowing the world champion for lap after lap.

Rins had used the Suzuki GSX-RR’s superior to close with Marquez’s Honda RC213V which had better acceleration and top speed.

The duo started trading places a number of times in the third act of the race, but Marquez fought back every single time. Rins stayed close and slipstreamed the Honda to pip Marquez by just 0.013 second. It was the closest finish in MotoGP’s history.

The battle allowed Maverick Vinalez (Monster Energy Yamaha) to catch up after dispatching his teammate Rossi many laps earlier. He would eventually finish in third, just 0.620 second behind Marquez.

The anticipated showdown among Marquez, Andrea Dovizioso (Mission Winnow Ducati) and Fabio Quartararo (PETRONAS Sepang Racing Team) did not materialize as Quartararo crashed at the start and his bike took out Dovizioso’s. The latter’s bike flew into the air upon contacting the Yamaha and threw him into the air. He landed heavily and continued rolling off the track, while his Ducati ruptured its fuel tank and exploded into flames. The Italian was sent to mobile clinic for checks afterwards.

Dovizioso’s team announced that although he had not suffered any broken bones, he’s sent to the Coventry Hospital for further checks after a severe blow to his head caused him to lose short term memory.

The newly resurfaced Silverstone provided the thrills expected, especially in a hectic Moto3 race.

Marc Marquez now leads the championship with 250 points, 78 points from Dovizioso at 172 points and Alex Rins with 149 points. There are seven rounds to go.

Alex Rins rode another incredible race on his Suzuki GSX-RR in yesterday’s Spanish MotoGP. He qualified in 9thand fought his way up the field to finish 2nd.

But when he parked his bike at a barrier and got off to celebrate with the fans in the stands, a track marshall reached down into Rins’s bike and removed the sweatband covering the front brake fluid reservoir. The marshall then inserted the item into his pocket as he watched Rins finished his celebrations and rode back to parc fermé.

The marshall must have forgotten that MotoGP bikes are equipped with “live” action cameras. Soon, his face and act were circulated around the world.

Alex Rins laughed it off when he was asked about it. He even joked that it’s probably selling on Wallapop (the Spanish version of Lazada) for €1,000 by then and that he’d buy it back if he saw it.

Alex can his money since the race organizer has forced the marshal to return the item. Additionally, he is required to apologize to Rins and the Suzuki Ecstar team.

  • Marc Marquez crashed out with 12 laps to go.

  • Valentino Rossi finished second.

Marc Marquez had hoped for a perfect record at the Grand Prix of the Americas, but a mistake at Turn 12 destroyed that record, leaving Alex Rins to win.

Crutchlow would crash out with 15 laps to go, leaving the other three riders to battle for the remaining podium spots.

By 12 laps to go, Marquez led by 3.6 seconds and the race looked like it was going to be another boring procession. Suddenly a roar went up in the crowds and the TV screens showed a Repsol rider picking his bike off the ground. It turned out to be Marquez!

He tried time and again to pick his bike up but fell back down on the ground and finally gave up.

Replays showed that he had locked the front wheel while trail braking into the first gear Turn 12.

It was a bad day for the Repsol Honda team as Jorge Lorenzo’s bike broke down a lap later.

Marquez’s crash left a nail-biting battle between Valentino Rossi and Alex Rins. Rins had dispatched of Jack Miller. With 6 laps to go, Rins’s team sent a message to select “Mapping 3” and started to stalk Rossi closely.

Rins finally made a move with 4 laps to go. Rossi replied with a repass by couldn’t hold his line and that let Rins off the hook.

Rossi’s tyre’s were cooked by now but he didn’t let it go down without a fight. Rins was able to open up a lead of 0.7 second but Rossi managed to pull back 0.25 second in braking down to Turn 12. However, Rins was able to hold on and claim his very first MotoGP win.

Behind them, Jack Miller held on for his first podium in the dry and on a Ducati while keeping himself just out of reach of Andrea Dovizioso (Mission Winnow Ducati). Dovizioso started the race from 13th on the grid.

  • Team Suzuki Ecstar has launched the 2019 Suzuki GSX-RR for the MotoGP 2019 season.

  • The riders are three-year Suzuki veteran Alex Rins and rookie Joan Mir.

  • The 2019 GSX-RR is improved in a number of key areas without being completely new.

Team Suzuki Ecstar has launched the 2019 Suzuki GSX-RR for the MotoGP 2019 season.

Unlike other teams, Suzuki chose to unveil their bikes through a video on YouTube, instead of a “live” launch event. The team unveiled their all-Spanish rider line-up last season. Three-year factory veteran Alex Rins is joined by newcomer Joan Mir. The latter replaces Andrea Iannone who left for Aprilia. Sylvain Guintoli continues his role as test rider for Suzuki.

Alex Rins #42

Alex Rins finished in second place in the last three rounds of 2018 and hopes to move up to the front step in 2019. Suzuki last won a race with Maverik Vinalez in 2016.

“After the last test in November I left clear feedback for the engineers to work on, as far as I know the improvements we will try in Sepang will not be drastic but many small improvements in many areas, which is totally the Suzuki philosophy. We know what we were missing on the bike, so I believe the R&D in Japan will deliver a package which will help us to improve further,” said Rins.

Joan Mir #36

Joan Mir made his first Moto3 appearance in 2015 to replace the injured Hiroki Ono. He crashed out after making contact with John McPhee. Mir came back as a full rider in 2016 and finished 5thoverall. In 2017, he dominated the series with 10 wins and a 91 point advantage over his closest rival. Pundits felt that he could be the next Valentino Rossi or Marc Marquez.

He moved to the EG 0,0 Marc VDS team in Moto2 in 2018 where he captured 4 podiums and finished the season in 6th.

“Of course I still need many more hours on the bike, there are so many things I still need to understand to be even more effective, but I feel very supported by the team and I will rely on their wealth of experience to improve, and also to contribute my own improvements to my bike,” he said.

2019 Suzuki GSX-RR

The 2019 bike follows the basic shape of the 2018 model with some visible but small modifications.

2019 Suzuki GSX-RR
  • Fatter tail section.
  • Different front brake calipers.
  • New wheels.
  • The front suspension also appears to be different.
  • The footpegs are placed higher.
  • New graphics with bolder yellow and gray stripes on the upper fairing, extending to the fuel tank.
  • The news bikes are shown in their “raw” form before being modified later to each rider’s individual preference.
2018 Suzuki GSX-RR

Those are differences we could see, but the team’s Technical Manager Ken Kawauchi said that the factory has developed a new engine, chassis, besides improvements in the electronics and fairing. He also added that Suzuki’s approach to the MotoGP project is by taking step-by-step improvements rather than redesigning something completely new all the time.

That last statement proves how important it is for the riders to start off their new season with something familiar yet improved, instead of riding something which completely alien to them. It helps the rider to familiarize himself to the bike quicker and hopefully translate to great results from the beginning.
