Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn. Bhd. (HLYM) previews the Yamaha MT-07 naked at the 2014 Malaysian MotoGP weekend.
In conjunction with the weekend’s Shell Advance Malaysian MotoGP 2014, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn. Bhd. (HLYM) held an exclusive press preview of its upcoming offering, the Yamaha MT-07 naked.
Making special appearances to unveil the bike were Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team riders and MotoGP superstars Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. Amongst the guests present as well were SIC CEO Datuk Razlan Razali, HLYM managing director C.H. Ng, as well as HLYM senior manager G.S. Tan, plus the MT-07’s project leader Takushiro Shirashi.
The MT-07 will sit in between the larger MT-09 triple and XJ-6 twins in HLYM’s range of offering for the Malaysian market. At the heart of the naked lies a liquid-cooled four-stroke 689cc DOHC parallel-twin engine that offers 74hp@9,000rpm and torque rated at 68Nm@6,500rpm.
Tasked at managing all power to the rear wheel is a six-speed constant mesh manual transmission unit primed with a wet multi-plate clutch system. All this is encased in a tubular diamond frame design with a 14-litre fuel tank, offering a 140mm ground clearance and a light 179kg laden weight.
Highlights in the Yamaha MT-07’s features list includes telescopic front forks, link-type rear suspension, plus dual 282mm disc brakes up frant and a single 245mm-sized disc brake in the rear.
HLYM states that the new Yamaha MT-07 will hit selected authorised Yamaha showroom floors starting from the end of November this year. Offered as a fully-imported CBU model, the MT-07 will be priced tentatively at RM42,000 excluding insurance and road tax costs.
