Suzuki files Patent for Two-Wheel Drive Hybrid Scooter

  • Suzuki has filed a patent for a two-wheel drive scooter recently at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

  • The patent shows a hybrid scooter with an electric engine powering the front and a conventional petrol engine driving the rear tyre

  • The scooter design looks like the Suzuki Burgman maxi-scooter

In reference to the people at Motorcycle.com, it seems like Suzuki has their plans set for the future with this latest patent for a two-wheel drive hybrid scooter. It was stated that the patent was filed at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in which you can see that it looks like a normal scooter apart from something fascinating drawings on the bike’s front end.

Apparently, the two-wheel drive system will make this scooter a hybrid as it employs the assistance from an electric engine to drive the front end in tandem with the conventional petrol-powered internal combustion engine driving the rear wheel.

Another interesting point would be the new and quite possibly revolutionary front end suspension system to cater to the electric engine. All of this seems to be planned around what seems to look like the Suzuki Burgman maxi-scooter.

The combination of electric-powered motors working together with petrol-powered engines is not uncommon especially in the supercars like the Porsche 918 Spyder (pictures below), Ferrari LaFerrari and the McLaren P1. If cars are able to produce mind-boggling horsepower and torque figures with the combination, it won’t be long before motorcycle manufacturers apply the same method as well.

It seems like Suzuki has big plans for their future and presence in the motorcycling industry. Together with the heads-up display (HUD) helmet currently in the works as well, it’s safe to say that Suzuki is keeping an open mind to possible giant shift in the world of motorcycling.
