Ducati Malaysia launches five new models (with videos!)

Ducati Malaysia updates and expands line up after launching five new models.

Ducati Malaysia (Next Bike Sdn Bhd) updated and expanded its line up for the local market today after launching five new 2016 models. All five were launched by the firm earlier today during a swanky and elaborate launch event held in EX8, Subang.

New into our market are the updated-for-2016 959 Panigale and Hypermotard 939 series plus the new Monster 1200 R, Multistrada 1200 Enduro and the XDiavel . Here’s a detailed breakdown of all five new models.

Panigale 959
We’ll start with the updated 2016 Ducati 959 Panigale. Unveiled during EICMA last year, this is essentially the 899 Panigale supersport model that has received a series of mild revisions all round.

Aesthetically, the changes aren’t apparent but a closer inspection reveals new and larger set of air intakes, a taller screen, longer mirror stalks, as well as slight changes in the tail unit and fairing panels.

Underneath, the 899 Panigale’s 898cc Superquadro L-twin gets replaced with an updated and larger new 955cc Superqaudro L-twin. The mill also outputs 157hp and 107.4Nm of peak torque and comes with a number of new bits added like its new timing belt cover and an ‘anti-hop’ slipper clutch.

Notably, the Malaysian-flavoured 959 Panigale gets the Euro 4-compliant twin exhaust silencers as standard.

Weighing in at 176kg dry, the 959 Panigale continues the ethos of its predecessor with the promise of both excellent power and handling. The latter is supported by the presence of a sleuth of on board electronic rider aids such as Ride-By-Wire with selectable riding modes, Ducati Quick Shift (DQS), three-level Bosch ABS, Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and Engine Brake Control (EBC).

Now open for purchase with Ducati Malaysia, the new 2016 Ducati 959 Panigale retails from RM99,999 (basic with GST).

Hypermotard 939, 939 SP and Hyperstrada
Next up comes the updated 2016 Ducati Hypermotard supermoto model range that’s comprised of three variants – Hypermotard 939, Hypermotard 939 SP and Hyperstrada 939.

Like the 959 Panigale, the Hypermotard 939 range stands as an evolution of the second generation and liquid-cooled Hypermotard model. The biggest change here is the new 937cc Testastretta 11° L-twin engine powering all three that replaces the 821cc version used previously.

Not only more powerful with a 110hp output, Ducati also claims that the new and Euro 4-compliant powerplant offers 10% more torque, with the new mill offering 97.9Nm of which.

Little else has changed aesthetically, from the last Hypermotard series but Ducati were keen to highlight the addition of improved electronics in this 2016 model. Included in the bill are three selectable riding modes, eight-level traction control and a three-stage ABS suite.

Prices for the updated 2016 Ducati Hypermotard 939 starts from RM70,999 (basic with GST) without insurance.

Multistrada 1200 Enduro
Now if you thought that the updated 2016 Ducati Multistrada 1200 DVT launched earlier this year wasn’t rugged enough for you, then you’d probably want the new 2016 Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro offshoot instead.

In Enduro form, Ducati has taken the Multistrada’s adventure talents even further as it incorporated 266 new or updated components in total. Notable amongst which include the larger and restyled 30-litre tank, 19-inch and 17-inch spoked wheels wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tyres, as well as the uprated Ducati Skyhook Suspension system with increased 200mm travel up front.

Powering the Multistrada 1200 Enduro is the same 1,198cc Testastretta DVT L-twin mill as found in its siblings, generating the same outputs of 160hp and 136Nm. All of which is sent to the rear wheel through a six-speed transmission primed with a slipper clutch.

Notable on board features includes selectable riding and power modes, cruise control, cornering ABS, DTC and DWC, ride-by-wire, Bluetooth-enabled infotainment, as well as full-LED headlamp with cornering light function.

The 2016 Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro is priced from RM129,999 (basic with GST) without insurance and registration costs.

Monster 1200 R
Not for the faint-hearted is this, the new 2016 Ducati Monster 1200 R super-naked. Unlike its Monster 821 and Monster 1200 siblings, the new range-topping R variant benefits with a more powerful heart and a sharper chassis package.

Ducati’s 1,198cc Testastretta 11° L-twin mill powers this performance naked, with its 160hp and 131.4Nm output figures easily bringing this naked’s claimed dry weight of 180kg up to speeds rapidly. Additionally, the mill is paired with a six-speed transmission that’s primed with a hydraulic slipper clutch too.

Notable features include fully adjustable 48mm Öhlins upside down front forks and fully adjustable rear monoshock, twin 330mm semi-floating front discs grabbed by radially-mounted Brembo Monobloc evo M50 quad-piston calipers, as well as a full-colour TFT digital instrument display panel.

Like most other Ducatis, the Monster 1200 R’s electronics package is comprehensive to say the least. Highlights include selectable riding and power modes, the Ducati Safety Pack or DSP that primes both ABS and DTC, as well as rride-by-wire.

The raciest and most powerful Monster naked in history is now available through Ducati Malaysia from RM139,999 (basic with GST) sans insurance and registration costs.

XDiavel & XDiavel S
We saved the best for last, and it is none other than the new 2016 Ducati XDiavel. Based off the Diavel dragster, the XDiavel stands as the Italian marque’s first ever modern cruiser with a feet-forward layout, and also its first modern belt-driven model, with Ducati promising ‘low speed excitement’ through this model.

The XDiavel is available in either a standard or a more specced-up XDiavel S form. Both share the same 1,252cc Testastretta DVT L-twin heart that develops 156hp and 128.9Nm. Both are channelled to the rear wheel using a six-speed transmission and belt-drive setup.

Unlike the Diavel model it underpins, the XDiavel boasts a more comfortable and relaxed, feet-forward riding ergonomics that’s matched with its rear-swept handlebars and low seat height of 755mm.

Unlike most other cruisers, the XDiavel is brimmed to the core with plenty of modern electronics. Included in this list are ride-by-wire, selectable riding modes, the combined Ducati Safety Pack (DSP) featuring the Bosch cornering ABS and DTC, DPL (Ducati Power Launch), full-LED lighting and backlit handlebar switches too.

The premium XDiavel S model, on the other hand, further adds a Bluetooth-enabled infotainment module and LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). It also features premium aesthetic additions such as the glossy black engine with machined belt covers, a premium seat and machined aluminium mirrors.

Available for booking and purchase through Ducati Malaysia, the new 2016 Ducati XDiavel is priced from RM135,999 (basic with GST) sans insurance and registration costs.
