2020 Yamaha MT-25 launched in Malaysia – RM21,500

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has unveiled the latest addition into its naked bike offering here in Malaysia, particularly the MT family. The latest “Master of Torque” addition comes in the form of the “Rush of Darkness”, the 2020 Yamaha MT-25.

Starting with the bike that will seriously put up a fight against other offerings in the same category, the 2020 Yamaha MT-25 is one hell of a worthy contender. Inspired from its bigger and more powerful siblings, the MT-07 and the ultra-popular MT-09, the MT-25 carries itself with a 250cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled DOHC engine that puts out around 35.5hp at 12,000rpm and 23.6Nm of torque at 10,000rpm.

The 2020 model also comes with revised bodywork and its signature dual LED headlights up front to light up your way. Just like the MT-07 and MT-09, the MT-25 sucks in all the air into the engine via air intakes mounted on both sides of its 14-litre fuel tank.

Also similar to its full-fairing brother, the YZF-R25, the Yamaha MT-25 comes with front 37mm USD forks courtesy of KYB, preload-adjustable rear shock, and an updated multi-function and compact LCD instrument. In other words, it’s a definitely a naked version of the R25. Sweet.

If you fancy owning one of these babies, HLYM has put a very competitive price tag of RM21,500 (excluding insurance, road tax & registration). Better hurry up to the closest authorised dealer if you don’t want to stay in the waiting list for too long. Two colours are up for grabs – Ice Fluo and Yamaha Blue.

For those who are looking for something that’s a little bit more budget-friendly, HLYM has your back by previewing the MT-25’s little brother, the 2020 Yamaha MT-15. This beauty is equipped with the same 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled SOHC engine as the very fun Yamaha YZF-R15. That’s right, this beauty comes with Yamaha’s Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology.

In other words, the 2020 Yamaha MT-15 produces around 19hp at 10,000rpm and 14.7Nm of torque at 8,500rpm. Not bad at all for a little dude. This is further enhanced when the power is sent to the rear wheel via a six-speed manual transmission equipped with an assist/slipper clutch.

The same set of USD front forks and rear single shock unit is fitted on this MT-15’s chassis, where it all adds up to around 133kg (kerb weight). That includes filling up its 10.4-litre fuel tank to the brim. Other specs include dual disc brakes, 17-inch wheels, 110/70 and 140/70 rubbers for good measure.

HLYM has yet to announce the pricing for the new MT-15 but we will get to know about it in October this year during its official launch. To know more, head over to www.yamaha-motor.com.my or even better, the closest authorised dealer. Go, go! Faster, faster!
