SIC and MAM organise First Ever Motorsports Awards

  • Joint partnership between Sepang International Circuit and Motorsports Association Malaysia

  • To honour Malaysia’s motorsports heroes

  • Recognition to Malaysian individuals, organizations, and teams in the industry

Sepang International Circuit (SIC) together with the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) will be organising the country’s first ever SIC-MAM Malaysia Motorsports Awards on 13 February 2017. The event will be held at the Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur Hotel to recognise and credit those who have played major roles in the motoring industry here in Malaysia.

Another major collaborator to the awards ceremony is the Sportwriters Association of Malaysia (SAM) to credit the media members for supporting and giving coverage as well as support to the motorsports industry. There will be two SIC-MAM-SAM Awards for best journalist and best photographer where the nominees have been carefully and thoroughly selected via rigorous protocol and criteria.

During a press conference with the CEO of Sepang International Circuit, Dato’ Razlan Razali, stated “In Malaysian Motorsports, so many people have played their part in contributing to the development of motorsports in Malaysia, which is exciting dynamic and inclusive – from competitors to teams, officials, journalists, clubs, corporations and even fans. We believe it’s about time that we recognised and honoured those who have contributed so much to the developments of motorsports in Malaysia.”

This awards ceremony will also marked the first ever individual to be inducted into the Malaysia Motorsports Hall of Fame. Individuals like Karamjit Singh, Alex Yoong, Ron Hogg, Shahrol Yuzy, Khairul Idham Pawi and others will be in the running to be the first entry into the motorsports hall of fame.

There will also be awards for best teams and drivers of the year for both two and four wheels included in the ceremony. For the ‘Rider of The Year’ category, the candidates are: Muhammad Zulfahmi Khairuddin from WorldSBK, Hafizh Syahrin, Khairul Idham Pawi and Adam Norrodin from MotoGP and also Zaqhwan Zaidi from the Asia Road Racing Championship.

As for the ‘Team of The Year’ category, the nominees are Chia PJ Kawasaki, Project X Racing Team, 65Garage.com, Sports Rider Racing Team and Ard Performance Motorsports. All of these teams have been very active in the Pirelli Malaysia Superbike Championship last season.

Additionally, the will also be the Malaysia Motorsport People’s Choice Award for 2016. Seven nominees from all forms of motorsports have been selected and the voting is open to the public via the SIC’s Facebook Page from 3 until 10 February 2017.
