SIC will take charge of managing the team and riders while PETRONAS will strive on expanding the brand’s image in the international motorcycle racing arena.

It was recently announced that PETRONAS and Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has entered a very monumental strategic partnership with the formation of a brand new racing team called the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing outfit.

With plans to further develop the future of two-wheel motorsports in Malaysia and also other ASEAN countries, both the PETRONAS Talent Development Programme (TDP) and SIC Talent Development Programme (SICTD) have been brought together to assist with the ongoing efforts to nurture young talents.

This includes motorsport series from the Malaysian Cub Prix, Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) and Asia Talent Cup in hopes that they will graduate into the Moto3 and Moto2 world championships. Through this program, they also hope to nurture the first ever local rider to join the highest two-wheel motorsport series that is MotoGP.

The partnership between the two giants will focus on their strong points. SIC will take charge of managing the team and riders.  PETRONAS on the other hand will strive on expanding the brand image in the MotoGP arena. The move will also hope to promote their ever growing motorcycle lubricant brand that is PETRONAS Sprinta which has a growing presence in countries like India, China and Vietnam.

The other big news is that Hafizh Syahrin will continue his Moto2 racing efforts with this newly-bonded alliance between SIC and PETRONAS. Other riders include Adam Norrodin and Ayumi Sasaki who will also continue their racing careers in the Moto3 world championships for 2018. Their efforts will be further enhanced with the help from former Grand Prix racer, Johan Stigefelt.

According to Dato’ Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed M Tahir, Vice President, Marketing Downstream, PETRONAS, “PETRONAS is delighted to announce this new Moto2 and Moto3 project with Sepang International Circuit (SIC).”

“We believe this partnership is a natural progression for our long-term commitment in developing talents as it provides a sustainable platform for riders to move up from local to international championships via SIC who has the resources and experience in managing a race team.”

Tan Sri Azman Yahya, Chairman of Sepang International Circuit added “We at SIC are delighted with this strategic collaboration. Both PETRONAS and SIC share the common goal of developing talents for motorsports. It’s high time for both companies to join efforts in doing so and we are pleased that PETRONAS is aligned with our vision for the advancement of motorsports in Malaysia.”

“SIC shall play the vital role of managing and overseeing operations of both teams in Moto2 and Moto3 championships. With our experience and technical know-how, we have created an ecosystem that will act as the support system for these riders both on and off the racing circuits. We hope this partnership with PETRONAS will open doors to future motorsport talents that yearn to progress their careers in world championship racing.”
