DOCM Presidential Ride 2019 lights up Penang

  • Over 140 members of the Desmo Owners Club Malaysia (DOCM) joined the DOCM Presidential Ride 2019 to Penang last weekend.

  • It was the club’s first mega ride of the year to kick things off on a high note.

  • We joined all the festivities on board the latest Ducati Multistrada 1260 S (review coming soon!)

The members DOCM (Desmo Owners Club Malaysia) got together last weekend for the year’s first big ride up north called the DOCM Presidential Ride Penang 2019. How big? Around 140 Ducati owners made their way to ‘The Pearl of the Orient’ for some good food, great culture, and not to forget, excellent company.

We were more than happy to be invited to the mega gathering where the first group of around 30 DOCM members were flagged off by the Selamat Pagi Malaysia TV show at Angkasapuri early Saturday morning. The boys and girls of DOCM quickly made their way to the first rendezvous point where we joined forces with the rest of the pack before making our way up north.

Cultivating the spirit of family and brotherhood, the DOCM fraternity welcomes everyone and anyone into the club and the range of bikes gathered that day said it all. Ducatis of all shapes and sizes participated from the Monsters, Diavels, Multistradas, Hypermotards, Panigales, and Scramblers. We even caught up with the boys from the Ducati Streetfighter Malaysia Owners Community who decided to join in the festivities as well.

Riding up to Penang was a breeze thanks to the club’s trained elite marshals who made sure that everyone rode safely to the first destination of the day upon arrival onto the island, which was the D’Seafood Paradise restaurant located at Batu Maung. An array of glorious seafood was prepared for the hungry riders and crew and boy were they good.

Folks from Ducati Club Penang, Ducati Perlis Riders, and Ducati Club Kedah met with the rest of us at the second Penang bridge to made sure that we entered the island in style where we had in abundance thanks to the sheer number of riders who joined the DOCM Presidential Ride.

Lunch was on the house courtesy of the folks from the PG Gold Museum, which was where we headed to after lunch. Located at the heart of George Town, the museum featured several interesting displays and activities related to one of the world’s most sought-after minerals. It was indeed an interesting place to visit instead of the usual places found in Penang.

It wasn’t long before the huge convoy made their way to the Gurney Resort Hotel and Residences where our fellow DOCM members rested and freshened up before proceeding to their own favourite activities for night. Some of them took the opportunity of the cool night riding around the island while others indulged in one of the many staples of the island that is Nasi Kandar.

On Sunday, the troop of Ducati owners checked out to head back to KL, but it wouldn’t be complete without a proper Penang lunch. Sustenance was taken care off in the form of the world-famous Pen Mutiara restaurant’s fish head curry. All in all, the DOCM Presidential Ride 2019 to Penang was a blast and one for the history books.

A special shout-out to Dewi and Ruby from DOCM for letting us tag along in the ride and a special thanks to Ducati Malaysia for providing us with one of the very special Ducati Multistrada 1260 S to make sure that we don’t get left behind. Stay tuned for our official review on the latest Ducati adventure bike that we have dubbed “The Hunter”.
