Sugomi – Kawasaki’s art of motion

From the introduction of the 2014 Kawasaki Z1000, the Sugomi design concept has been embedded by Kawasaki into all of their latest bikes in the Z family.

Sugomi means the embodiment or spirit of a predator on a hunt and ready to strike its prey.

The latest 2017 Kawasaki Z900 ABS carries that design spirit with its intense focus, low crouching position and superb performance with dynamic handling characteristics.

Ever since the introduction of the infamous 2014 Kawasaki Z1000, we’ve been introduced with a brand new design concept applied to motorcycles thanks to the folks over at Kawasaki. Together with the Z1000’s introduction was the tagline “Call of the wild”, Kawasaki went with their wildest motorcycle design concept yet called “Sugomi”.

So what is Sugomi? There are a few terms to define the word but according to Kawasaki themselves, Sugomi is the embodiment or spirit of a predator on the hunt. This includes the crouching position with eyes locked on the prey ready to pounce at a moment’s notice.

With intense focus, low crouching position and primed muscles ready to strike, that aura alone sends an intense energy enough to drop everyone and everything in its tracks. For the Kawasaki Z1000, that was the idea Kawasaki they had in mind; a predator ready to pounce with explosive power and precision coordination.

The Sugomi design concept also envelops their entire facade of all the new Kawasaki naked bikes labelled under the ‘Z’ family. In Malaysia, the most popular would be the Kawasaki Z800 and the new predator on the block, the 2017 Kawasaki Z900 ABS. Embedded with same Sugomi DNA found in its slightly bigger sibling, the Z1000, the 2017 Kawasaki Z900 ABS is so much different from the previous Z800 that you can simply say that it’s an entirely different bike altogether.

The most striking feature on the new Z900 ABS that embodies the Sugomi identity has to be its intense glare and look from its stunning headlights all the to its muscular body. Even with the engine and lights off, the Z900 appears to be menacing and intense even at a standstill.

From the headlights going back to its condensed yet dynamic shape, the Z900 ABS is ready to take you on a ride of a lifetime. With an all-new chassis, engine and improved riding ergonomics and handling, it is safe to say that it is probably one of the best super naked machines that you can buy at a very decent price point.

To conclude, Sugomi is actually defined by the Japanese as “the intense aura or energy given off by a person or object of greatness and felt by the viewer.” Anything or anyone who possess the Sugomi spirit will leave an unforgettable impression with its appearance and performance which is obliged for absolute respect.

Rest assured that with any of the Z models found in the Kawasaki range especially their latest 2017 Kawasaki Z900 ABS, you can be certain that the Sugomi spirit will pass on from the motorcycle to you; the “Rider”.
