SPIED: 2021 BMW R18 Cruiser?

BMW Motorrad has been rumoured to be working hard on their next BMW R18 variant which is a big highway cruiser as seen in the photos currently spreading online. While the initial idea for the BMW R18 bagger was seen before the release of the BMW R18 naked bobber production model where they’ve already begun collecting bookings for it.

Judging by photos, the BMW R18 cruiser is styled like the traditional American-styled bagger usually associated with the likes of Harley-Davidson and Indian. Knowing how the folks over at BMW Motorrad work, you can be sure that their rendition of a highway cruiser will be packed to the brim with technological updates to pair with its classic façade.

What we can confirm is the mill that they’ll be running; a 1,802cc flat-twin boxer that produces around 91hp and 158Nm of maximum torque. This powerplant is mated to a six-speed gearbox and considering the size and weight of the machine, there will also be an optional reverse gear to help riders back up out of parking spots easier.

Driving all that power and torque down to the rear wheel is a final shaft drive, which is the signature for all BMW R heritage line-up. The biggest difference compared to the Bobber R18 is the front batwing-styled fairing and loads of bagger parts that’ll assist in eating up the miles during long-distance riding.

There’s still no news on when both R18 production models will be unveiled publicly but sources have indicated that they might drop sometime in July 2020. For now, interested parties can start placing their bookings for the Bobber model. As for the Bagger, we’ll just have to wait and see. Stay tuned for more updates.
