With so many Spanish riders dominating top tier motorcycle racing, it is easy to deduce that the Spaniards have an excellent domestic feeder series to groom its future riding talents. Need more proof? The head coach of the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup, the first ever feeder series of Asian riders, is none other than Alberto Puig, one of the key architects behind the Spanish success.

With that, it comes to no surprise for many after the world motorcycle racing governing body, the FIM, has decided the elevate the Spanish CEV series’ Moto3 class into a ‘World’ level. From 2015 onwards, the category will be renamed as the “FIM CEV Repsol Moto3 Junior World Championship.”

Moto2 and Moto3 Tests in Jerez - Day Two

The newly upgraded Moto3 series will hold eight rounds next year, six of which in circuits based in Spain. The other two venues listed in its 2015 calendar are the Le Mans, France, and Portimao, Portugal. Additionally, the series leg in France will be held as the support event to the French MotoGP event.

And the status elevation does not stop with the CEV series’ Moto3 class only. The two other classes that makes up the Spanish championship, namely Moto2 and Superbike, will also be elevated, but only up as far as being apart of FIM’s European Championship series.

The FIM States that the intention behind these status change was aimed to help prepare young riders of all nationalities to make their mark and enter Grand Prix racing. A quick observation will also tell you this has been the role of the CEV Moto3 championship increasingly in the last few years, not to mention the fact that most of the champions in the Spanish series have moved up into the Moto3 World Championship paddock.
