Suzuki Assemblers Malaysia Sdn Bhd (SAM) expanded its big bike line up for the Malaysian market after introducing two new models during the WSBK Malaysia 2015 race weekend on Sunday. New to our market are the GSX-S1000 ABS naked and its full-faired GSX-S1000F sport-touring sibling.

Essentially, both bikes are offshoots of the mighty Japanese S-badge’s GSX-R1000 ‘Gixxer’ supersport. Both bikes come powered using a detuned version of the 2008 GSX-R1000’s liquid-cooled DOHC 999cc in-line four-cylinder engine. Bothbikesalso made their debuts during last year’s edition of the annual Intermot bike show in Cologne, Germany.

The powertrain in both bikes are houses in a brand new all-aluminium frame chassis design, thus making the GSX-S1000 more of a roadster than a streetfighter, and the GSX-S1000 more of a sport-tourer instead of a full-fledged sport bike.

Crucially, both models share several key features such as the three-mode traction control system, the new multi-info instrument panel and the fully adjustable 43mm Kayaba inverted front forks. Both models are also primed with a set of radially-mounted Brembo Monobloc brake calipers derived from the current GSX-R1000 model, each boasting four 32mm opposed pistons acting on a floating 310mm brake rotor for optimal stopping power. The Malaysian-spec GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F come primed with ABS as standard.
