Suzuki is planning to run a Suzuki satellite team in the MotoGP grid for the 2019 season.
Their plan in 2019 is to get four Suzuki GSX-RR MotoGP to speed up the development and data collecting process.
Independent teams like Tech 3, Angel Nieto Team, Marc VDS and Reale Avintia are all looking to change their machinery for the next season.
There’s news going around in the MotoGP world that Suzuki is looking to run a satellite team for the 2019 season. The Japanese manufacturer’s initial plan of putting in four prototype machines this year was put on hold due to their difficult season last year but it might be plausible for the upcoming season.
According to Team Suzuki Ecstar manager Davide Brivio, “Our objective is to move forward with the idea of a satellite team in 2019. It’s a question of finding the necessary resources within our structure. But we don’t have a lot of time left; we have to decide in the next few months with a few to the start of the Championship.”
“You have to know exactly what’s required in terms of structure: spare parts, engineers and everything else. We would have to bring people on board because at the moment all we have is the official team,” added Brivio on the matter.
Brivio is also highly confident that this season will be the turning point for them and having a satellite team by 2019 will assist them further in getting more testing, development and overall track time data for their Suzuki GSX-RR MotoGP machine.
This is indeed very interesting news following a recent surprise by the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 squad where they’ve announced that they will end their partnership with Yamaha at the end of the 2018 season. There’s no indication of Suzuki filling in that space just yet but the prospect of a Monster Suzuki Tech 3 squad seems very thrilling indeed.
Other independent teams like the Angel Nieto Team and Reale Avintia Racing have shown interest in exchanging their machines as well skewing towards Japanese machinery like Yamaha. Marc VDS’s contract with Honda will also end in 2018 and after quite a difficult season, they too are rumoured to change their bikes come 2019.
There are many possibilities and outcomes being hypothesised but what we’re sure of is the fact that the MotoGP grid will get more and more interesting in the coming years. Combined with our very own hometown hero Hafizh Syahrin right in the middle of the mix, there’s no better time to invest in the future that is the Motorcycle Grand Prix.
