Honda Reveals Updated 2017 Africa Twin Rally

  • New upgrades with a weight reduction of around 7kg

  • Horsepower increase to 98hp

  • Revised bodywork with new parts

Honda has released their latest version of the highly successful CRF1000 aka the Africa Twin Rally. This news came to being after a European publication at www.moto.it revealed the somewhat leaked but highly probable news.

With a host of different upgrades and goodies, the Japanese manufacturer managed to cut down the weight from the previous Africa Twin by almost 7kg and increase its overall output to 98hp. As we all know in the world of motorcycle physics, less weight + more power = AWESOME.

A major rework has been done to the body as well with new parts for the front fender, windscreen, tail tidy, skid plate and a few carbon fibre components thrown into the mix. The most noticeable upgrade is the awesome looking Termignoni full system exhaust. These new additions however have not been finalised yet as it looks more for display purposes.

As we all know, the present Honda Africa Twin CRF1000L is currently powered by an all-new SOHC 998cc parallel twin unit. With an ingenious 270-degree crankshaft configuration, the engine performs like a V-twin with an overall output of 94hp and 98Nm of torque.

Another great specification that can be found in the present Africa Twin is a switchable ABS to off-road purposes. Combined with Honda’s very own multi-mode traction control system dubbed the Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), adventure riders consider this Honda machinery a darling to ride on.

The prices set for the European market is around €21,490 (around RM101,503 after direct conversion) for the standard model and €22,640 (around RM106,935) for the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) version. No actual news from Honda themselves yet but we’re hoping that it’s good news although the prices seems a bit steep with our present state of currency. For the time being, enjoy the video below showcasing Honda’s unique Dual Clutch Transmission technology.
