Boon Siew Honda celebrates 60 successful years with five million units produced!

Boon Siew Honda (BSH) celebrates 60 successful years with the production milestone of five million units at their Penang production plant.

What started life back in 1957 with only 50 Honda cubs grew exponentially with their first millionth unit produced in 1986.

The numbers kept growing thanks to a number of successful models including the Honda EX5 and the latest Honda RS150R.

After six decades in the Malaysian motoring industry, Boon Siew Honda (BSH) celebrates quite a historical milestone today as the manufacturer and distributor of Honda motorcycles here in the country. The celebration was further enhanced with its five millionth unit produced in their assembly plant located in Penang.

Present during the momentous occasion were Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan, Minister of International Trade and Industry II (MITI), Dato’ Madani bin Sahari, CEO of Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI), Dato’ Surveyor Haji Rozali bin Haji Mohamad, President of Municipal Council of Seberang Perai, His Excellency Kiyoshi Itoi, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, Datuk Loh Kian Chong, Executive Chairman of Oriental Holdings Berhad, Mr. Seiji Kuraishi, Executive Vice President, Executive Officer & Representative Director of Honda Motor Co. Ltd., Dato’ Seri Loh Cheng Yean, Chairman of Boon Siew Honda Sdn Bhd and Mr. Nobuhide Nagata, Managing Director and CEO of Boon Siew Honda Sdn. Bhd.

What started off as a motorcycle business way back in 1957 in a little showroom located at Pitt Street Penang with just 50 Honda cubs grew tremendously and by 1969, the commencement of locally-produced Honda cubs took off thanks to a technical collaboration between Tan Sri Dato’ Loh Boon Siew and Mr. Soichiro Honda. Through the years, Boon Siew Honda kept growing and bigger milestones were achieved unlike any other manufacturers in Malaysia.

  • 1957 – Boon Siew Sdn. Bhd. (BSW) began import sales of Honda motorcycles
  • 1969 – Local production of motorcycles began
  • 1986 – Cumulative production reached 1 million units
  • 1999 – Cumulative production reached 2 million units
  • 2007 – Cumulative production reached 3 million units
  • 2008 – Boon Siew Honda Sdn. Bhd. (BSH) establishment
  • 2011 – Cumulative production reached 4 million units
  • 2013 – Began motorcycle manufacturing at the new plant in Batu Kawan
  • 2017 – Cumulative production reached 5 million units and celebrates 60 anniversary of Honda motorcycle business in Malaysia
