2018 KTM 790 Duke is finally here in Malaysia?

KTM Malaysia has posted something very interesting on the Facebook page regarding the 2018 KTM 790 Duke.

The KTM 790 Duke aka “The Scalpel” was expected to arrive in Malaysia within the first half of 2018.

We can expect it to be reasonably priced somewhere between RM60,000 to RM70,000

It was only a couple of months ago when we heard rumours going around that the new 2018 KTM 790 Duke aka “The Scalpel” will be made available in the Malaysian market very, very soon. It seems that it’s all true when KTM Malaysia posted this photo you see below on their Facebook page.

This is indeed very exciting news for the Malaysian motorcycle scene. With a large following for middleweight naked performance machines, the KTM 790 Duke fits in perfectly in the segment as something completely fresh. In fact, some dealers across the country have already begun accepting bookings for the said bike which is also another huge indicator of the 790 Duke’s availability here in Malaysia.

With major rivals from top Japanese and European companies in the same segment, KTM Malaysia has to play their pricing game carefully in order for the 790 Duke to be a true success here in Malaysia. Right now, they do have a slight advantage with the announcement of 0% Goods and Services Tax (GST) coming into play from 1 June 2018 until further notice.

That might help drive the price down a bit. We’ve gone through the market for this particular bike’s segment including some of KTM’s own models and we think it will do well if the pricing lands somewhere between RM60,000 to RM70,000.

Some might say that an 800cc middleweight naked bike is a bit pricey at RM60,000 and beyond but you should also be aware of all the specifications that come ready with the new 2018 KTM 790 Duke listed below:

  • 799cc LC8c parallel-twin engine
  • 105hp and 85Nm of maximum torque
  • Equipped with the latest KTM electronics
  • Lean-sensitive traction control
  • Cornering ABS
  • Launch control
  • Auto-blipper
  • Bidirectional quickshifter (up and down)
  • Slipper clutch
  • Multi-colour TFT screen
