Yamaha’s popular maxi-scooter, the Yamaha XMAX, has finally received a significant overhaul for 2023.

  • 2023 Yamaha XMAX gets a new TFT screen and adjustable windshield.
  • The Yamaha XMAX is available in two variants in Europe, the 125 and 300.

First introduced in 2006, the Yamaha XMAX and its bigger sibling, the TMAX, have become two of the world’s best-selling scooters, with more than 720,000 units sold between the pair.

For 2023, the Yamaha XMAX gets an all-new 4.2-inch TFT instrument display complete with a Garmin navigation system similar to the TMAX.

Yamaha also revised the handling for better riding comfort and enhanced functionality.

In addition, the 2023 XMAX features a bolder impression thanks to a sharper front end, headlined by an aggressive new ‘X’ shaped headlight.

The same ‘X’ theme can also be seen at the back when the tail light is on.

Available in two variants, 125 and 300 in Europe – 250cc in Malaysia – the XMAX gets slimmer and more angular fairing designed.

This time, the XMAX also gets the Tech Max trim similar to the TMAX, which features a leather-style seat, aluminium footplates, keyless ignition and traction control.

Yamaha also treated the body parts with a special semi-metallic gloss finish.

Expect the new XMAX – with a 250cc engine configuration – to make its way to Malaysia soon.

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor has updated the XMax 250 with new visual for 2022.

  • The popular Yamaha XMax 250 gets two new colours for 2022.
  • The maxi-scooter retains the same engine and bodywork.

The quarter-litre Japanese maxi-scooter is now available in two new colours for the Malaysian market; Red and Matte Green.

The two new visuals is the same that was introduced in Japan just a few weeks ago.

In terms of design, the 2022 XMax 250 retains the same bodywork as the previous year’s model, including the iconic sharp split LED headlight.

Mechanically, the 2022 XMax continue to feature the same 250cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 22.5hp and 24.3Nm.

Also retained for 2022 is the semi-digital instrument cluster and traction control.

Meanwhile, the scooter is suspended by a conventional telescopic forks and dual shocks at the rear while braking hardware consist of front and rear disc with dual-channel ABS.

According to Hong Leong Yamaha Motor, the 2022 XMax 250 is available for RM22,298 with new owners will also received a complimentary Yamaha safety disc lock worth RM100, with every purchase.

  • Hong Leong Yamaha Motors has initiated a recall for the 2019 Yamaha YZF-R25 and Yamaha XMAX.

  • The campaign covers the replacement of the brake lever.

  • It begins in mid-July, 2019.

Hong Leong Yamaha Motors has initiated a recall for the 2019 Yamaha YZF-R25 and Yamaha XMAX.

The recall involves replacing the brake lever as a safety precaution. The decision was made by Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd. (i.e. Yamaha Japan). The campaign first began in the United States when dealers found a number of levers of the YZF-R3 snapping during hard braking.

Brittleness is usually associated with the presence of impurities in the metal during the casting process.

The Malaysian recall campaign will commence from mid-July onwards by region. Hong Leong Yamaha will strive to contact the owners of the affected bikes.

  • 2018 Yamaha X-Max 125 shows great looks and promise

  • The X-Max 125 is a worldwide best-seller

  • Part of Yamaha’s “MAX” scooter family

Yamaha has unveiled the new X-Max 125 scooter ahead of the release of their 2018 model line up.

While we do not see the X-Max in Malaysia, the model has sold more than 140,000 units worldwide.

The 2018 model will be EU-4 emissions compliant, hence the 125cc, single-cylinder engine is fed by electronic fuel injection which has low fuel consumption. Such prospects would make the X-Max popular in our country, due to the rising fuel prices.

Both the X-Max 125’s brakes feature ABS as standard. But it goes beyond that, as there is also traction control.

Yamaha has also upgraded the 2018 X-Max 125 to be even more practical. Case in point is the underseat storage space which could accommodate two full-face helmets. That large screen is adjustable, so are the handlebars. It also has a 12V power outlet, like in the NVX, which is fast becoming a pre-requisite.

Speaking of the NVX, the X-Max 125 also uses the Yamaha Smart Key as the former’s. The X-Max’s distinctive dual LCD instruments panels remain.

Yamaha has also started to imbue its family of scooters with a sense of familial ties through the design of their headlights and tail lights. One could instantly tell their make with just one glance.

Will the X-Max 125 ever make it here? Who knows. But it does show that Yamaha is serious about the scooter market.

But if you really want a scooter, check out the Yamaha NVX we tested recently. Click here to read the review of the NVX.
