Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) mengumumkan kerjasama dengan Petron untuk menerima bayaran menggunakan kad ATM di semua pam minyak layan diri Petron.

Kerjasama ini sekaligus membenarkan pelanggan untuk menggunakan kad debit masing-masing tanpa perlu dikenakan caj awal RM200 sebelum dipulangkan semula ke akaun pemilik tiga hari kemudian.

Penolakan RM200 memberi beban yang agak besar terutamanya bagi penunggang motosikal yang hanya mengisi bawah RM10 bagi motosikal jenis kapcai.

Pelancaran ‘Fuel-Yoooh MyDebit Je dengan Kad ATM’ baru-baru ini di Bandar Baru Kulim dirasmikan sendiri Menteri Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail.

Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Kumpulan Paynet, Peter Schiesser, menyifatkan pihaknya sentiasa mengutamakan keperluan rakyat.

“Dengan lebih 42 juta kad ATM digunakan, ini bermakna semua rakyat Malaysia memiliki kad ATM yang boleh mereka gunakan di stesen minyak.

“MyDebit merupakan satu-satunya sistem kad di Malaysia yang tidak mengenakan caj awal RM200 di pam minyak. Menerusi MyDebit hanya jumlah yang dipilih pelanggan akan dicaj dan sekiranya minyak diisi kurang daripada nilai yang dipilih, baki yang tidak digunakan serta merta disalurkan semula ke akaun pelanggan,” jelasnya.

Petron Malaysia melancarkan minyak enjin dan produk pelincir khusus dengan teknologi Petron High-Temperature Protection (HTP) di SOFITEL, Bukit Damansara, hari ini.

Bagi pengguna enjin petrol, Petron memperkenalkan Petron Blaze Racing HTP dan Petron Rev-X Turbo HTP bagi enjin diesel.

Petron Blaze Racing HTP merupakan minyak enjin sintetik penuh dengan bahan polyalphaolefi (PAO) sebagai minyak asas yang membantu menangani isu kepanasan enjin melampau berbanding minyak enjin konvensional.

Produk baharu ini turut menawarkan perlindungan enjin optimum daripada masalah hakisan sekaligus memanjangkan jangka hayat enjin.

Sementara Petron Rev-X Turbo HTP menawarkan perlindungan terbaik bagi enjin diesel turbocharged dan supercharge dengan kawalan haba luar biasa.

Menurut Ketua Dagangan Runcit dan Perniagaan Komersial Petron, Choong Kum Choy, Petron sentiasa mencari inovasi terbaru dalam penawaran produk.

“Kami sentiasa menjanjikan produk petroleum berkualiti tinggi. Petron HTP dirumus khas untuk menjamin kebersihan, kecekapan dan perlindungan enjin yang terbaik,” jelasnya.

Sempena dengan sambutan Hari Kemerdekaan, Bosch Automotive Aftermarket Malaysia (Bosch AA) dengan kerjasama Kementerian Pembangunan Wanita, Keluarga Dan Masyarakat  (KPWKM) dengan sokongan daripada PROTON, Petron dan Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya (JKJR) telah meganjurkan bengkel penyelenggaraan kereta bagi wanita. 

Objektif utama bengkel ini adalah untuk memperkasakan wanita dengan ilmu untuk menjaga kenderaan serta keselamatan diri sendiri dan anak-anak.

Dilancarkan oleh Timbalan KPWKM, YB Hannah Yeoh, bengkel ini turut menyaksikan penglibatan lebih 60 staf Jabatan Pembangunan Wanita.

Bengkel ini memfokuskan terhadap menyuntik ilmu penjagaan kenderaan serta kepentingan Child Restraint System (CRS) dan juga cara pemasangan yang betul.

Hannah Yeoh turut mengetengahkan kepentingan bengkel ini susulan keputusan kajian yang membimbangkan oleh Institut Penyelidikan Keselamatan Jalan Raya (MIROS).

“Menurut kajian oleh MIROS, 58 peratus kematian membabitkan kanak-kanak dan bayi berpunca daripada kemalangan jalan raya yang boleh dielakkan dengan penggunaan kerusi kanak-kanak.

“Jadi saya amat teruja kerana bengkel ini memfokuskan terhadap kepentingan penjagaan kenderaan termasuk penggunaan CRS yang akan diwajibkan bermula tahun depan.

“Penggunaan CRS dapat mengurangkan kadar kemalangan maut yang menyumbang kepada kematian kanak-kanak dan bayi,” jelasnya.

Sementara itu, menurut kajian Bosch AA yang dijalankan pada 2018 mendapati hanya 1 peratus wanita yang tahu apa yang perlu dilakukan ketika kereta rosak.

Bengkel ini turut menyaksikan Bosch mengajar teknik mudah kepada peserta bagi penjagaan kenderaan yang melibatkan bateri, pengelap cermin, minyak enjin dan tayar.

Pengurus Bosch Automotive Aftermarket Malaysia, Pang Yoon Kong yakin ilmu penjagaan kereta mampu merendahkan risiko kereta rosak dan kemalangan jalan raya.

“Penjagaan kereta dan keselamatan jalan raya adalah fokus utama kami kerana kami percaya dua faktor ini amat penting dalam memperkasakan golongan wanita di Malaysia.

“Sempena sambutan Hari Kemerdekaan, bengkel ‘Heels & Wheels’  akan memberi inspirasi pada wanita untuk menjaga kereta tanpa perlu bantuan daripada orang lain,” katanya.

Bengkel ini turut menyaksikan sesi penyampaian keselamatan kenderaan oleh PROTON serta Petron Malaysia dan JKJR.

Percaya atau tidak, lebih daripada 50 peratus rakyat Malaysia tidak memiliki pengetahuan asas mengenai penjagaan kereta meskipun ia faktor perkara penting bagi setiap pemilik kenderaan.

Menyedari perkara ini, Bosch Automotive Aftermarket melancarkan kempen ‘Drive for Live bagi mendidik orang awam tentang kepentingan penjagaan kereta termasuk penggunaan alat ganti berkualiti.

 

Majlis turut dilancarkan Menteri Pengangkutan, YB Anthony Loke bersama Timbalan Menteri Wanita, Keluarga dan Masyarakat, YB Hannah Yeoh.

Pengarah Penjualan Dan Pemasaran Bosch Automotive Aftermarket Asia Tenggara, Marcio Coelho mendapati kurang ilmu pengetahuan mengenai penjagaan kereta memberi impak besar terhadap pemandu.

“Menerusi kajian yang kami lakukan pada 2018, kami mendapati lebih 50 peratus rakyat Malaysia kurang pengetahuan asas mengenai penjagaan kereta dan apakah kesannya terhadap penumpang, kereta dan keselamatan di jalan raya.

“Menerusi kempen ‘Drive for Live’, Bosch akan melengkapkan pemandu dengan ilmu asas penjagaan kereta bagi membantu mereka sekiranya kenderaan mengalami kerosakkan,” katanya.

Kempen ‘Drive for Life’ akan berjalan selama tiga tahun yang akan dilaksanakan dalam tiga peringkat – Educate, Engage dan Empower.

Antara aktiviti yang akan berlangsung adalah, bengkel ilmu bagi mendidik pemilik kereta mengenai asas penjagaan, tip pemanduan selamat bagi pemandu baharu termasuk membantu dalam melahirkan mekanik pada masa akan datang.

Selain itu, segmen #BoschEmpowersWomen turut akan dijalankan bagi mengetengahkan idea bahawa penjagaan kereta bukan hanya tugas lelaki susulan laporan kajian mendapati hanya satu peratus pemandu wanita yang tahu cara bagi menangani masalah kerosakkan kereta.

Bosch yang turut sama dengan Petron akan menawarkan pemeriksaan percuma kepada setiap kenderaan sempena balik kampung pada 18-19 Mei serta 25-26 Mei ini di beberapa stesen minyak Petron terpilih di sekitar Lembah Klang.

Lets be honest here, how many of us really do care about the molecular properties of the petrol we use? Most of us are driven by the price of fuel and as such would simply use the cheaper RON 95. Every once in a while though there are some who will fill up on the more expensive RON97 or even Shell’s V-Power Racing under the false assumption that it “cleans up” the engine.

Yes that is a false belief because it is not the fuel that cleans the engine but the lubricant. What is true though is that most Malaysians are a price sensitive bunch, so the cheaper the better. But is cheaper always better though?

Petron recently invited us for a near 1000km ride to Penang and back via some selected stops to try out their Blaze 100 fuel. The only catch? We needed to bring our own bikes or bikes we were familiar with, and the tank must be close to empty on the morning meet at the Petron station along the MRR2 near Selayang.

I didn’t want to ride any of my bikes because one has a puny 8 litre tank and the other is shod with Pirelli Super Corsa tyres which would have been a nightmare or worse in the rain. So I borrowed a bike which I had already rode a couple times and understood its character – the Triumph Tiger XCx.

Tall and comfortable with a sweet three-cylinder engine, and cruise control too, the XCx is said to be one of the best dual-purpose bikes in the business. And the best part about the bike is most probably the engine. The 800cc, triple-cylinder engine is rich in torque and loves to rev, pulling away from tailgating cars on the highway was as simple as twisting the throttle, no downshifts necessary. Sometimes. The only drawback was that the engine tends to be thirsty if you cruise at a constant 150-160km/h. But then again, you really shouldn’t be cruising at that speed.

“We hope you enjoy the ride and feel the difference that the RON 100 fuel has to offer,” said one of the Petron representatives right before the flag off.

We hit the road at about 915am, with a tank full of Petron Blaze 100 (as it is officially called) super fuel, riding towards the Tapah R&R which was about 150km from where we were.

Petron’s Blaze 100 fuel is supposed to give your bike more power as it uses a special formula that gives it an edge over the rest – it’s called the “Tri-Action Advantage Formula”.

This formula sounds like your typical marketing lingo to lure you into believing that this fuel is better than the rest. But it is more than just marketing fluff, there is actually a scientific explanation to it.

The formula promises “better power, better engine protection and better mileage” and it meets this promise by using a molecular detergent that cleans and keeps clean a dirty engine. Don’t mistake this for the detergent that you use to clean your clothes though, it is actually a molecule that keeps your fuel line clean so petrol can flow smoothly and uninterrupted. However it does not clean the internals of your engine like a good lubricant does, it simply smoothens out the fuel line so fuel flows without any particles slowing it down.

Then there is a “Friction Modifier” that reduces friction inside the piston chamber to ensure that the pistons work as they should without any particles slowing them down. And finally there is the “Combustion Enhancer”, this is the part that gives you power because it basically ensures that every molecule of fuel in the piston chamber is burnt in its entirety so that there is no wastage. And when a fuel is more combustible, the burst of energy it creates will in turn work the piston harder, and give you more power.

So that is the basics of Petron’s RON 100 fuel, in fact the company’s own studies have shown that the RON 100 fuel gives 6.3% improvement in power, and 2.95% improvement in torque. This study was conducted on cars in the UK but is relevant to motorcycles too. A further UK based study showed a 3.7% improvement in acceleration time, a 2% improvement in top speed, and a dyno test showed a 2.9% improvement in acceleration rate.

But did I feel the difference as soon as I got on the bike? Nope.

We filled up our tanks about six times throughout the journey to Penang and back. And though it was a requirement to ride according to the speed limit, well, I’ll just let you assume the best of us.

But according to the technical briefing during dinner later at night, a biker will need to fill up his tank up to eight times (!) before truly feeling the awesomeness of the RON 100 fuel. That is because the old fuel will need to be flushed out of the system, and it takes time for the micro particles to settle into the engine to truly make a difference. So filling up eight times before a difference is truly felt is a safe figure.

However, I will admit to something – that the bike felt lighter, more willing to rev, more ‘torquey’, and to sum it all up, more powerful on the return leg.

Of course some will say that “feel” is subjective and others may or may not feel the same, but in all honesty the bike felt more eager to accelerate. And there were instances where idiotic bus drivers would suddenly barge into the fast lane without signalling, seemingly unaware of the motorcyclist fast approaching. Well, hard braking is usually accompanied by quick downshifting and accelerating out of the danger zone (and maybe a choice finger for the bus driver, maybe) but shifting from sixth to fifth instead of fourth did the trick this time, and the bike seemed quite happy to lay down power.

Simply put, there is no denying that the higher the RON of a particular fuel, the more combustible it is and ultimately more powerful. Petron’s RON 100 is currently the most powerful fuel in Malaysia, even more so than Shell’s V-Power Racing which is said to be RON 98. But it is also the most expensive at RM3 a litre. But for superbikes and their regular tank size, the price to pay for such impressive fuel is, well, negligible. Try it but don’t expect to feel the difference right away!

The firm recently put its new flagship high-octane fuel to the ultimate test when it was tasked at fuelling the excitement of the second ever Petron Fuel Happy Road Trip 2016 organised especially for consumers, guests and media partners. The two-day road trip held last weekend to Puteri Harbour, Johore.

Unlike its previous Fuel Happy Road Trip 2015 last year to Penang, this year’s southbound outing was bigger in both size and collective horsepower figures as Petron Malaysia also hosted members of both the Porsche Club of Malaysia (PCM) and the Lotus Cars Club of Malaysia during this time around.

Also on board this year were Volkswagen Group Malaysia (VGM) and PLUS Highway’s Workshop on Wheels (WoW). VGM supplied a fleet of Volkswagen Passat saloons that were helmed by invited media partners, customers and guests. The fleet of VW Passats acted as the perfect test-bed for drivers to gauge the fuel’s performance thanks to the German marque’s highly efficient TSI powerplant powering the Passat.

Petron Malaysia’s head of corporate affairs and Zaimi Harun was present to flag the trip off in the Dengkil R&R Southbound Petron station that featured a total of 60 drivers this year. Speaking on behalf of Petron Malaysia’s head of retail Puan Faridah Ali about the drive’s mission, Zaimi explained:

“We want our customers to feel the thrill of driving vehicles fuelled by Blaze 100 and from their reactions, our product exceeded expectations.”

He further added that since it was introduced back in January this year, the availability of the Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4M fuels have grown from just eight stations to 40 stations in total nationwide. Zaimi stated that this was the result of Petron Malaysia garnering strong and highly positive feedbacks from consumers who have switched to the high octane RON 100 grade fuel since it was launched.

To refresh your memory, the Euro 4M-spec RON 100 high-octane fuel by Petron is produced locally in Petron Malaysia’s refinery located in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. Petron Blaze 100 also boasts a Tri-Activ formula that promises greater power and engine protection plus improved efficiency. On top of that, Petron Blaze 100 also contains an advanced fully synthetic detergent additive that offers enhanced engine cleaning abilities as well.

When it was launched earlier this year, Petron Blaze 100 fuel retailed at RM2.80 per litre. However, prices for the Euro 4M-spec RON 100 fuel isn’t regulated by the government, meaning that price revisions (if any) doesn’t necessarily take effect at the start of each month. But just for your information, Petron retails its Blaze 100 fuels at RM2.60 per litre at the time of writing.

The two-day road trip began first with a flag off for media, consumers and guests in their VW Passats from their starting points in Oasis Square, Ara Damansara to a rendezvous with the members of PCM and LCCM in the Southbound Dengkil R&R layby.

Besides the presence of the powerful performance machines by the two car clubs, high-octane excitement was also fuelled by the special go-kart challenges held in the Melaka International Motorsports Complex (MIMC) held on Day 1.

Various other contests, including social-media based photo contests and slogan-writing contests, were held throughout the first day and saw Petron Malaysia giving away plenty of prizes including thousands of Petron Miles points. Drivers were again treated on Day 2 with lunch and shopping excursion in the Johor Premium Outlets before heading back north towards Kuala Lumpur.

Speed demons in Malaysia have been kept at the edges of their seats when news first broke about a new high octane fuel that was to be introduced soon.

There were talks of it being akin to racing fuel and such, and it was the Honda fan boys and their high compression machines and the turbocharged overlords who were the most excited.

So today Petron Malaysia finally introduced the first ever 100 Octane fuel in Malaysia, officially calling it the Blaze 100 Euro 4M.

IMG_0856The car boys are rejoicing, but what does it mean for Malaysian bikers? Can our machines actually run this new high performing juice?

We have been talking to various manufacturers over the past week and the simple answer is yes. The not so simple answer is, call your dealer, you might have to get your machine tuned. The straightforward answer is if you are riding a kapcai for your daily errands, you don’t need high performance fuel.

IMG_0854There have been cases reported in Australia where fuel lines were clogged by a yellow sludge type material which built up in the fuel tank and then spread through the entire fuel system. This happened after using a particular brand’s RON98 graded fuel. But research showed this could have happened due to the usage of fuel additives such as an octane booster, which reacts badly with the high solvency of a high octane fuel regardless of brand.

So stay away from octane boosters if you are going to be using high octane fuel.

IMG_0855Most bikes need a minimum of RON 95 grade fuel, and Malaysian bikes have been specially tuned to run on our low grade fuels. So there is a possibility that your machine will have to be tuned to run on high octane fuel such as Petron’s RON 100 petrol.

But keep in mind that most modern motorcycles run a high compression ratio, and that basically means that the higher the octane in the fuel, the better your engine will perform.

IMG_0849In the week leading up to the launch of Petron’s Blaze 100 Euro 4M fuel, we took the liberty to ask some of the industry leaders on whether or not their bikes were suitable to run the high grade petroleum.

Dato Malique of Triumph Motorcycles Malaysia had this to say when I asked him for his opinion, “100 RON is not necessary for road bikes. Triumph bikes are tuned to accept fuel from 87 RON (e.g. useful for when you ride/ adventure in countries with poor fuel Q) up to 98 RON. Like most vehicles the tune is up to Premium 98 RON. We can use 100 RON and get more power by advancing the ignition timing but we are not racing. High compression engines and Turbo cars benefit most from high Octane fuel as it is more stable and less likely to pre detonate. You can time your burning more precisely for most powerrrrrrrrr.”

Sashi Ambi, Head of Corporate Communications for BMW Malaysia responded to our email query with a simply straightforward and reassuring, “Yes. Our bikes are capable of handling the fuel so owners should not have a problem.”

But a simple search online will reveal that some bike owners have had problems in extracting the maximum potential with high octane fuel, especially those running low compression ratios and even fibre glass fuel tanks (for custom bikes). So best do your research or ask your dealer if you are still not sure or you would be doing nothing more than burning a hole in your wallet for as much performance as the cheaper RON 95 grade fuel.
