  • Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber Sport was introduced at Intermot 2018.

  • It is the “sportier” version of the normal V9 Bobber.

  • It features Öhlins shocks and stylistic updates.

Moto Guzzi unveiled a “sport” version called the Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber Sport at the Intermot 2018 show in Cologne, Germany.

The Sport features lower single seat and black pipes to “bring out the mean and moody” look. The fat front tyre is retained.

Other features on the Bobber Sport are fork gaiters for that retro look, cut-down front mudguard and lowered headlamp with a new aluminium fly-screen. The riding position is made sportier by installing lower drag bars with lower risers.

The shock absorbers are adjustable Öhlins units for “improved” handling and ride over the normal V9 Bobber. Megaphone exhausts will hopefully liberate some noise rather than sounding muted.

Moto Guzzi did not upgrade the bike’s performance, however. The Moto Guzzi V9 Sport is still powered by the very same 853cc, transversely-mounted 90o, V-Twin which produces 60 bhp and 62.4 Nm, instead of the new 80 bhp, 850cc engine which will power the V85 TT.

“Bobber”-style motorcycles have become very popular recently. The name “bobber” is derived from their shortened rear fenders hence “bobbed.” The bobber scene was invented by post-WW2 American riders. Although Harley-Davidson has been producing bobber-style bikes ex-factory for many years, it was the Triumph Bonneville Bobber which broke records as the manufacturer’s best-selling motorcycle. Other manufacturers had to follow suit, including Moto Guzzi with their V9 Bobber line-up.

  • Moto Guzzi Malaysia has provided their pricing with 0% GST.

  • The new prices will go into effect from 1st June 2018.

  • The price reduction makes Moto Guzzi motorcycles even more attractive than they already are.

As with other manufacturers and distributors, Moto Guzzi Malaysia is the latest to publish their motorcycle’s prices with 0% GST, with effect from 1st June 2018. Here are the model and basic selling prices (not on-the-road).

Moto Guzzi Malaysia provided the new prices of six models, all seeing a reduction in price between RM 3,787.00 to RM 4,636.00. The V7 III is the third generation of the iconic V7, powered by a 750cc, 90o V-Twin. The V9 range, on the other hand, is powered by an all-new 850cc, 90o V-Twin.

  • The highly entertaining entry-level V7 III Stone we tested will see a reduction of RM 3,787 from RM 69,900 to just RM 63,113.

  • The V7 III Special is the closest embodiment of the 1975 V750 S3 and looks the part of being a retro heritage, complete with lots of chrome. It’s price will be reduced by RM 4,070 from RM 71,900 to 67,830.
Moto Guzzi V7 III Special
  • As its name implies, the V7 III Anniversario celebrates the 50th anniversary of the V7 and is built on the V7 III Special as the base model. With a distinctive chromed fuel tank and tanned leather bench seat, there’s no mistaking it for another Moto Guzzi. Only 750 will be produced. Its price will be revised from RM 80,900 to RM 76,321, as reduction of RM 4,579.00.

  • Also aptly named is the V7 III Racer, which takes on the shape of a classic café racer. This model is similarly a limited-production model, and the sportiest among the V7 III family. It features adjustable Öhlins rear shocks, “Rosso Corsa” (Racing Red) frame, rear seat cover which turns the bike into a solo seater, and brushed aluminium fuel tank and flyscreen. Its price will go from RM 81,900 to RM 77,264 (reduced by RM 4,636).

  • The V9 Roamer is a 70’s-style classic, versatile for both city riding and long-distance touring. It features an upright seating position, large and comfy seat, plenty of chrome, lots of nifty details and plenty of style.

  • The other V9, the V9 Bobber is the “bobbed” version of the V9. By “bobbed” it means that all the superfluous parts were stripped away to make it lighter, sportier and aggressive. Just like what American G.I.’s did after they returned home from the battlefields of WWII. A reduction of RM 4,240 will see its price drop from RM 74,900 to RM 70,660.

Moto Guzzi has just unveiled four new bikes at the ongoing Eicma show, which are the V9 Roamer, V9 Bobber, and the Stornello.

In addition to the three bikes, the company also confirmed that the MGX-21 Flying Fortress will be a part of its 2016 product line up.

The V9 Roamer and V9 Bobber, which are the latest addition to the brand’s stable, share the brand’s new 850cc two-valve, transverse 90 degree V-twin engine.

While Moto Guzzi has not revealed the exact output figures, maximum torque readings stand at 62Nm at 3,000rpm.

According to the manufacturer, the Roamer is the conventional version of the V9, while the Bobber is the sportier version with its black bodywork.

Weighing at 200kg,  both V9 variants come with ABS and adjustable traction control as standard (which can be disabled), and also feature an immobilizer, a USB port, and a single, circular dash.

Moto Guzzi says it will be offering a range of accessories for the bikes, including a system to connect the bike to the rider’s smartphone and options to personalize it according to their tastes.

MGX-21 Flying Fortress

Unveiled as a concept at last year’s EICMA show, Moto Guzzi has announced that the MGX-21 has entered production under the ‘MGX-21 Flying Fortress’ name, and that it will be a part of Moto Guzzi’s 2016 product range.

Powered by a 1,380c air-cooled V-twin engine which puts out a claimed 120Nm of torque which is transmitted to the rear wheel to using a cardan final drive, the production model also gets a ride-by-wire throttle, ABS, adjustable traction control, cruise control, and a 21 inch front wheel with carbon covering.

V7 II Stornello

Looking pretty similar to the V7 racer we have in Malaysia, the Stornello, which is basically a scrambler version of the existing V7 II, is powered by the same 744cc V-twin engine, but the bike is fitted with a new clutch and a six-speed gearbox.

Weighing at 186kg, the Stornello has been given a few trick bits including an Arrow exhaust, wire-spoked wheels with ‘off-road’ tyres. It’s also got aluminium mudguards, footpegs and injector bodies, plus three sets of number plate holders. Also standard is ABS and traction control.

As for the V7 II Racer, the company has given it an update as well, including revamped and updated matte finish graphics.
