Monster Energy

The MotoGP 2021 season will see a new major partnership between Monster Energy and Team Suzuki Ecstar after signing a multi-year agreement with the Japanese manufacturer. This makes a lot of sense considering that both Joan Mir and Alex Rins are already sponsored riders under the Monster Energy flag. (more…)

  • Valentino Rossi will go to Formula 1 while Lewis Hamilton will take his MotoGP seat.

  • Rossi will drive Hamilton’s Mercedes AMG PETRONAS car.

  • Hamilton will ride Rossi’s Monster Energy Yamaha YZR-M1.

Valentino Rossi will go to Formula 1 while Lewis Hamilton will take his MotoGP seat.

The swap will happen at Valencia circuit on 9th December. Rossi will drive Hamilton’s Mercedes AMG PETRONAS car. Hamilton on the other hand, will ride Rossi’s Monster Energy Yamaha YZR-M1. The deal was probably pushed through by both men’s sponsor Monster Energy.

Hamilton had expressed his wish to ride a MotoGP bike earlier in the year, but it was Repsol Honda who responded with the message “Bring it on, Bro” in a tweet. But it didn’t happen, as expected, as the Repsol riders are sponsored by Monster Energy’s biggest rival Red Bull.

It won’t be the first time Hamilton rides a motorcycle, although it’s his first time on a MotoGP bike. He had ridden the GYTR Yamaha YZF-R1M with PATA Yamaha WorldSBK riders Michael van Der Mark and Alex Lowes at Jerez. He tweeted “Valentino Rossi I need to come to the ranch ASAP.”

As for Rossi, it’s not the first time he’s behind the steering wheel of a four-wheeler, either. He competes in the Monza Rally annually and has won it seven times up to last year. He had also tested in Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari Formula 1 car many years ago. He impressed the multiple champion so much that Schumacher offered him a spot as a driver.

We can’t wait to see the upcoming event!

  • The Yamaha YZF-R125 Monster Energy MotoGP Edition was launched in the United Kingdom.

  • The bike looks great in the MotoGP livery.

  • We don’t have the R125 here, but the R15 with 150cc engine.

Well, well, looky here. It turns out that the Yamaha YZF-R125 is not only popular here in Malaysia but also starting to edge into the best-seller list in the United Kingdom, too. As such, Yamaha UK launched the Yamaha YZF-R125 Monster Energy MotoGP Edition.

We don’t have the YZF-R125 here in Malaysia, as we’re lucky to have the YZF-R15, instead. We publish this story because the bike looks great in the MotoGP livery. Besides that, we’re sincerely hoping that Hong Leong Yamaha will also launch the Monster Energy MotoGP edition for the latter. It will cost more, without doubt, but we feel that the new livery adds an even sportier dimension to the bike, as did to the YZF-R1.

We’ve reviewed the Yamaha YZF-R15 earlier this year and found the bike supremely entertaining. The application of variable valve actuation technology as part of Yamaha’s Blue Core solution made the engine torquier and more tractable throughout the rev range. One does not have keep banging off the upper RPM reaches and red line.

And we say again, the bike was definitely faster than the Y-Suku (Yamaha Y15ZR).

So, HLYM, what say you about the Monster Energy MotoGP Edition?

  • Monster Energy takes over from Movistar.

The factory Yamaha MotoGP squad unveiled their new Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP livery and the 2019 Yamaha YZR-M1.

Monster Energy has taken over from Spanish telecommunications company Movistar as the main sponsor of the team. Hence the new livery consists of more black paint matched to the traditional Yamaha racing blue. The energy drink brand was already sponsoring both Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinalez prior to this.

Whatever it is, the factory Yamaha team is looking forward to leaping back into contention after a dismal 2018 season. The longest losing streak in the brand’s history was thankfully broken when Vinalez won at Phillip Island.

The dearth of meaningful results even prompted Yamaha’s Project Leader Koiji Tsuya to issue a public apology to the riders, team and fans. He then stepped down last month and replaced by former head of chassis division Takahiro Sumi.

Riders Rossi and Vinalez will finally get to test the new bike during the first Pre-Season Test at the Sepang International Circuit from 6thto 8thFebruary.

Valentino Rossi

“I like it very much – Yamaha is always blue, and the blue of the Yamaha is beautiful, but I like the black of Monster because the colour of my soccer team, Inter, so I feel comfortable.”

Maverick Vinalez

“I can’t wait to start, the holidays were already too long,” Vinales said. “I would like to be on the bike. I’m really curious to see the steps forward we did and see if we can push the bike at the maximum already in the first test.”
