LCR Honda

In a dramatic turn of events at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Alex Rins secured a thrilling victory in the Grand Prix after forcing Francesco Bagnaia into another crash.

  • Alex Rins claims LCR Honda’s 100th podium in MotoGP.
  • Fabio Quartararo snatching first podium of the season.

The race started with Bagnaia making a brilliant start and holding off Rins into turn one. However, the factory Ducati team’s luck was short-lived as Jorge Martin and Alex Marquez clashed, resulting in crashes for both riders.

Meanwhile, Jack Miller made a significant move up the order to position himself in third, closing in on Rins and Bagnaia. However, Miller’s charge ultimately ended as he crashed out of the race on lap seven. As the race progressed, Bagnaia continued to lead despite pressure from Rins, with Quartararo in third position.

However, just like in the previous Sprint race, Bagnaia made another crucial error, crashing out of the Grand Prix on lap 14, allowing Rins to take over the lead. Luca Marini then blasted past Quartararo with eight laps remaining, showing the immense speed of his Ducati. But Rins managed to control the gap and secure his victory, just his third race for Honda.

The race witnessed three crashes in short order as Takaaki Nakagami kicked things off before Brad Binder and Joan Mir joined him. Maverick Vinales showed good pace, making overtakes on Binder and Miguel Oliveira to secure a position in the top ten.

The COTA Grand Prix provided fans with plenty of action and drama, with Rins emerging as the ultimate victor. Bagnaia, on the other hand, will need to regroup after another Grand Prix crash.

Six-time MotoGP world champion, Marc Marquez will return to racing this weekend, it has been confirmed.

  • Marc Marquez will return to racing at MotorLand Aragon this weekend.
  • Takaaki Nakagami to remain with LCR Honda after agreeing a 12-month deal.

The Spaniard will be back on board the RC213V at this weekend’s MotorLand Aragon for the first time since June following the Italian Grand Prix.

Marquez rode a Honda CBR600RR at the Aragon kart track before completing the full two day testing at the Misano Test last week.

“After numerous check-ups, consultations and tests, all involved are satisfied with the recovery made and the #93 will now take the next step in his rehabilitation – returning to competition,” said Honda in a statement.

Despite missing 110 days from the world championship, expectations for the rider is still high upon his return this weekend. The 29-year-old has a fantastic record at Aragon, winning every year between 2016 and 2019. The circuit even named Turn 10 after the rider.

Nevertheless, this weekend race is all about getting back to full race fitness as confirmed by his team.

“The objective for the weekend will be to continue improving Marquez’s bike fitness and assessing his performance during the intensity of a Grand Prix weekend and race,” said Honda.

Meanwhile, Takaaki Nakagami will feature at next season’s MotoGP after agreeing a 12-month deal with HRC.

The 30-year-old will remain with LCR Honda IDEMITSU until the end of the 2023 season.

That said, the confirmation ends all rumours regarding his future at the team.

Alex Rins will ride on board the Honda RC213V machine at the 2023 MotoGP season after putting pen to paper on a two-year deal with LCR Honda.

  • LCR Honda Castrol Team officially announced Alex Rins as the new rider for 2023.
  • Rins agreed a two-year deal to join LCR Honda.

The 26-year will ride join LCR Honda at the of the 2022 season after Suzuki decided to terminate their participation in MotoGP.

“I am very happy to be joining the LCR Honda Team. Changing team and bike is a challenge but I am ready to give my 100% and to put into practice everything that I’ve learnt during my years in the MotoGP class.

“Lucio and Honda’s trust has been crucial for me in deciding to take on this challenge with this factory. I would like to thank them for this opportunity,” said Rins.

LCR Honda Team Manager, Lucio Cecchinello, is also delighted with the new signing.

“I am delighted to announce that Álex Rins will be the LCR Honda CASTROL rider in 2023. We’ve just finished signing the contract, all 3 parties, so we are finally able to announce it. Rins is an experienced rider, a fast rider and a podium finisher.

“This wealth of experience, coupled with Rins’ ability to give the precise suggestions to his technicians, as I’ve heard, will surely help us to improve our our bike package, aiming to fight for more podium,” he said.

Meanwhile, LCR Honda reportedly will also announce Moto2 rider Ai Ogura as Rins’ new team-mate for the upcoming season in place of Takaaki Nakagami.

The recently concluded Italian GP had witnessed Ducati’s Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia claiming his first win at the Mugello.

While the result was a much-needed boost for the Italian, Suzuki’s Alex Rins, on the other hand, suffered his third attempt in a row of failing to secure a point.

It was a disastrous day for the Spaniard as he was forced to retire after a collision with Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami.

The incident also ignited Suzuki to submit a formal request to the Race Direction to investigate the incident and punish Nakagami. However, Race Direction decided it was just a ‘normal’ racing incident.

In a fiery outburst, Rins slams the Japanese rider during an interview with DAZN.

“Nakagami can’t do what he did. He’s a super aggressive rider. I think he’s the dirtiest rider on the grid.

“On the lap before the accident, I put the bike in front of him between turns 10 and 11.

“Usually, whoever puts the bike in front has the position, like [Johann] Zarco did with [Marco] Bezzecchi, who passed him and took the position.

“‘Taka’ kept accelerating, and as we went forward, he touched me and threw me [to the ground]. I think it was a very dangerous move, and luckily no one was going behind otherwise, I don’t even know what would have happened,” he said.

MotoGP will be back in action this weekend at Catalunya.

Did you know that an average person blinks about eight times a minute to restore the eyes’ natural tear film?

However, a recent study by DVS (Driving Vision Science) created by SIFI (a leading pharmaceutical company in the ophthalmic sector) finds a remarkable result after conducting a visual test with LCR Honda MotoGP Team.

The research, dedicated to studying the reactions of the visual apparatus of riders racing on circuits all over the world, finds that MotoGP riders only blink once every three minutes.

The unusual reaction is due to extreme conditions generated by visual stress and physical and mental concentration faced by the riders to perform well on the track.

This means that considering that a lap at Mugello takes around 1 minute and 50 seconds, riders only blink after doing one lap and a half.

Thanks to the collaboration between SIFI and LCR Honda Team with riders Takaaki Nakagami and Cal Crutchlow, researchers can collect important data that allows new studies to be carried out to find a solution for dry eyes.

According to SIFI, the research objective is to test products capable of improving visual performance for those subjected to high ocular strain.

After finishing fifth in last week’s MotoGP round in Aragon, Takaaki Nakagami was finally offered a new multi-year deal to continue racing under the flags of HRC. The 28-year-old Japanese will be continuing his efforts alongside Alex Marquez in LCR Honda in 2021 and beyond. (more…)

The MotoGP medical team has declared Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda), Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) and Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) all fit to race this weekend for the Andalucía GP in Jerez, Spain. While normal mortals would’ve taken weeks to recover even remotely, these riders prove that MotoGP riders are a different hybrid of ‘superhumans’. (more…)

Cal Crutchlow
