Renowned automotive tuner Brabus and KTM made waves in the motorcycle world by jointly announcing the launch of their highly anticipated and incredibly exclusive creation: the Brabus 1300 R Masterpiece Edition.

  • The release marks the grand finale of their trilogy of collaborative endeavors, following the successful launches of the Brabus 1300 R and Brabus 1300 R Edition 23.
  • The Brabus 1300 R Masterpiece Edition is truly a collector’s dream, as only 50 of these exceptional motorcycles will ever be produced and made available to enthusiasts worldwide.

The production split includes 25 units in the striking Onyx Black colorway and an additional 25 units in the elegant Diamond White. These limited-edition motorcycles boast captivating accents finished in what Brabus aptly dubs “Frozen Gold” and feature an even more extensive array of special Brabus carbon fiber bodywork.

All three collaborations between Brabus and KTM have been centered around the formidable KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo as their base. The initial release, the Brabus 1300 R, was launched in February 2022 and comprised a total of 154 bikes, offered in two distinct colors.

Astonishingly, this initial release sold out within mere minutes. Following that success, the Brabus 1300 R Edition 23 came into existence, featuring 290 bikes, and, like its predecessor, it sold out almost instantly.

The heart of the Brabus 1300 R Masterpiece Edition beats to the rhythm of the KTM LC8 V-twin engine, which generates an impressive 180hp @ 9,500 rpm and 140Nm @ 8,000 rpm.

While Brabus exercised its creative freedom in many aspects of this masterpiece, the suspension duties are performed by a WP Apex semi-active suspension system, offering both automatic and manually adjustable modes. \

The braking system consists of a pair of Brembo Stylema 4-piston calipers up front paired with a 320mm floating disc, complemented by a Brembo 2-piston caliper and a single 240mm disc in the rear.

Standard features include multiple ride modes, a quick-shifter, cornering, and supermoto ABS, and an adaptive brake light.

The design of the Brabus 1300 R Masterpiece Edition is a testament to its exclusivity, featuring a distinctive Brabus LED headlight, side fairings adorned with MotoGP-inspired winglets, a front spoiler, and a solo seat with an integrated license plate bracket.

The wheels are the unique Brabus Monoblock Z “Gold Platinum” forged alloy units, crafted exclusively for this motorcycle. Additional Brabus-crafted details encompass a CNC triple clamp, adjustable CNC brake and clutch levers, CNC aluminum brake and clutch reservoir caps, adjustable CNC foot pegs, bar end mirrors, and a slip-on dual exhaust system adorned with Frozen Gold accent rings.

The seat itself is a work of art, featuring an exclusive Brabus leather quilted “Diamond Rising” pattern. A special Brabus 1300 R Masterpiece badge on the seat pad adds an extra layer of exclusivity.

Buyers of the Brabus 1300 R Masterpiece Edition will also receive a tailor-made Brabus indoor motorcycle cover, floor mat, and a carbon key box, emphasizing the bespoke nature of this motorcycle.

The Brabus 1300 R Masterpiece Edition is priced at EUR41,930 (RM207k).

As  KTM fanboys eagerly await the launch of KTM’s 1390 Super Duke range in 2024, the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer is also giving its loyal off-road and supermoto market a taste of what’s to come.

  • Recent sightings of prototype versions for the 690 SMC R and 690 Enduro R suggest significant updates are on the horizon.
  • the 2025 model year is expected to also feature a heavily revised 692.7cc single cylinder engine.

A Sleek New Look

At first glance, the prototypes sport matte black finishes, indicating their pre-production status. While their overarching aesthetic closely mirrors their current counterparts, closer examination reveals noticeable changes in bodywork.

Shared features between the SMC R and Enduro R models, such as styling, remain consistent, but modifications have been made to the front nose cowl and fender. Interestingly, the new fender is borrowed from the GasGas ES 700 and SM 700 models.

Revamped side panels encasing the tank have also been redesigned for a more aerodynamic feel, seeming to envelop a larger radiator—hinting at significant engine modifications.

Under the Hood: More Than a Facelift

The engines of these prototypes appear to have undergone a comprehensive overhaul. While still based on the 692.7cc engine, there are cues that suggest an expansion beyond the 700cc mark. Observations reveal new billet alloy covers for both the clutch and generator, redesigned main engine castings, and changes to the cylinder bracing.

Though the cylinder head looks relatively unchanged, these alterations imply that the engine could offer a longer stroke and potentially a larger bore, aiming for a more robust performance.

Chassis and Frame Tweaks

The frame architecture remains largely similar to existing models but features a modified plate for the front engine bracket to accommodate the revamped engine. Additionally, the footpeg hangers for passengers have been extended, shifting backward and upward in their positioning.

Tail-end Changes

On the rear end, both models appear to feature redesigned bodywork. While side bags obscured the changes on the Enduro R in the spy photos, visible adjustments were made to the lower rear side panels of the SMC R, revealing more of the exhaust. This is in line with a potentially upgraded engine, as the exhaust exhibits a hand-welded finish.

What’s Being Retained?

Not everything is changing. Elements like the swingarm, WP shocks, forks, brake calipers, and wheels seem to be carryovers from the current 690 series models.

A 2025 Arrival?

While KTM is known for its somewhat lax approach to hiding prototypes, the state of these spotted models suggests they are more likely to hit the market for the 2025 model year rather than in 2024. Following suit, KTM’s sister companies, GasGas and Husqvarna, are expected to launch their own versions, offering a stylistic alternative for consumers.

In a world where motorcycling is more than just a means of transport, it is a lifestyle, a fashion statement, and a symbol of freedom. The latest release from KTM, the 2024 Duke 390, ready to define the future of single-cylinder engine motorcycles.

  • With the 2024 KTM 390 Duke, you’re looking at a new beast that has been redesigned from the ground up.
  • Sporting a fresh and attractive look, an enhanced 399cc engine that delivers 44 horsepower, and a plethora of new electronic features, this motorcycle is all set to push the boundaries.

A Performance to Talk About

What sets the 2024 KTM 390 Duke apart from its predecessors is the revamped engine. With an increase in size from the old 373cc, this new engine promises better on-road performance. The improved power and torque figures indicate that riders can expect a smoother and more thrilling ride.

But the engine isn’t the only thing that’s new. Riders will get to enjoy a smooth shifting experience with the help of a slipper clutch and a 6-speed gearbox. The bike also offers new electronics like launch control and three ride modes – Rain, Street, and Track – allowing riders to customize their driving experience according to their preferences and weather conditions.

Connectivity and Control at Your Fingertips

Modern riders crave connectivity, and the 2024 KTM 390 Duke delivers with its 5” fully digital instrument cluster. Not only does it allow control over ride modes, but it also offers smartphone connectivity. This opens up features like turn-by-turn navigation, notification alerts, and music control, seamlessly integrating the bike with the rider’s digital lifestyle.

A Design to Turn Heads

The visual appeal of the 2024 KTM 390 Duke can’t be understated. The new design aspects like the fuel tank, tank shrouds, seats, and rear subframe give it a robust appearance, while the sleek exhaust and banana-shaped rear swingarm add a touch of elegance. Opinions might vary on the LED headlight design, but overall, the bike’s look is a perfect blend of modern aesthetics and functional design.

Safety and Usability

Beyond performance and looks, the 2024 KTM 390 Duke doesn’t compromise on safety and comfort. With features like dual-channel ABS, cornering ABS, and Supermoto ABS, riders can enjoy a sense of security on the road. The seating posture aims to balance everyday usability with a sporty stance, a critical aspect for those who use their bikes daily.

The Rivalry Heats Up

While the 2024 KTM 390 Duke aims to dominate the single-cylinder segment in the global market, it won’t go unchallenged. New entrants like Harley-Davidson X440 and Triumph Speed 400 are ready to compete, with the Speed 400 showing significant potential.

Final Thoughts

With its innovative design, enhanced performance, and user-friendly features, the 2024 KTM 390 Duke is all set to make a substantial impact in the market. The pricing might see a slight increase compared to the current model, but given the extensive updates and improvements, it’s likely to be justified.

In a recent interview with Motorrad magazine, MV Agusta CEO Timur Saradarov addressed the swirling controversy surrounding the partnership between MV Agusta and KTM, dispelling rumours of a potential takeover by the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer.

  • Partnership between MV Agusta and KTM began in November 2022.
  • KTM currently holds a 25.1-percent stake in MV Agusta.

The partnership sparked speculation about KTM’s intentions to acquire a majority stake in the Italian brand with executives from Pierer Mobility, KTM’s parent company, had expressed their desire for a majority stake in MV Agusta, with an undisclosed timetable in place.

However, Saradarov remains unfazed by KTM’s ambitions.

“It’s nice that there is such a great interest from KTM in MV Agusta,” he said.

Saradarov, who currently owns 74.9 percent of MV Agusta, expressed his intention not to sell and assured that nothing would change in the next three to four years.

*Lucky Explorer 9.5

Meanwhile, regarding KTM’s comments about MV Agusta’s Lucky Explorer model, Saradarov neither confirmed nor denied its inclusion in the lineup but revealed that the MV Agusta LXP series is in the works, with the 950 variant confirmed.

Saradarov stated that the KTM portfolio is under consideration now that the two companies are in partnership, leading to the development of the MV Agusta LXP series, which will include the Lucky Explorer model.

Saradarov also provided insights into the forthcoming LXP series, stating that it will feature a completely different three-cylinder engine. The global unveiling of the LXP series is expected in late summer 2023, with MV Agusta aiming to produce 2,500 to 3,000 units this year.

Pierer Mobility Group (PMG) has expressed its intention to become the majority shareholder of renowned Italian motorcycle manufacturer MV Agusta, according to a recent interview with Hubert Trunkenpolz, a member of PMG’s Executive Board.

  • PMG currently holds 25.1 percent stake in MV Agusta.
  • PMG plans to expand the current production line.

Last year, PMG acquired a 25.1% stake in MV Agusta, raising concerns in Italy that the company would suffer the same fate as Husqvarna, which became a subsidiary of KTM. However, Trunkenpolz has reassured enthusiasts that MV Agusta will not follow the same path.

Contrary to downsizing and relocating production, PMG plans to enhance MV Agusta’s existing production line. Last year, the company manufactured a mere 1,000 motorcycles, a figure Trunkenpolz considers insufficient. He envisions increasing the production capacity to 12,000 bikes annually, highlighting the importance of achieving this goal for KTM.

In addition to preserving MV Agusta’s production base in Schiranna, Trunkenpolz explained that the brand’s role within the PMG portfolio will be focused on producing luxury motorcycles priced at EUR30,000 (RM140k) or higher.

This strategic positioning aims to prevent overlap with other PMG brands such as KTM, Husqvarna, and GasGas. Trunkenpolz also criticized MV Agusta’s Lucky Explorer model, which is manufactured abroad and, in his opinion, detrimental to the brand’s image.

*The Lucky Explorer 5.5 initial plans is to be manufactured in China via QJ Motor.

Acquiring a controlling stake in MV Agusta is crucial for PMG to implement the desired changes. PMG aims to hold at least 50.1% ownership in the company.

Trunkenpolz confirmed that PMG’s stake will gradually increase but did not disclose the exact timeframe, as agreed upon by the shareholders. However, he did mention that PMG intends to invest in the Varese region, where MV Agusta is headquartered, over the next two years.

With these plans, PMG aims to revitalize MV Agusta, ensuring its future as a luxury motorcycle brand known for its Italian heritage. By expanding production capabilities and maintaining the brand’s distinct identity, PMG seeks to unlock the company’s untapped potential. Motorcycle enthusiasts will eagerly await the developments resulting from PMG’s increased investment and growing influence within MV Agusta.

Fast forward a few months later, India became the first country in Asia to received the updated motorcycle.

The upgrade enhanced the bike’s aesthetic and beefed up the bike’s durability off-road. Also, the spoke sits within black-anodized aluminium rims with 19-inch at the front and 17-inch at the rear.

Aside from the new rims, the 2023 390 Adventure continues to make 44hp and 37Nm of peak torque from its Bajaj-built 373cc single-cylinder DOHC engine. Additionally, the bike features two catalytic converters.

Other notable features remain available, including ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, cornering ABS and an ‘Off-Road’ riding mode. The mode allows for more rear wheel slip and reduces ABS intervention.

KTM also retained the steel trellis frame for the 2023 model year, including the WP Apex suspension that offers adjustable rebound, compression and preload.

Braking is done via Brembo’s ByBre radial callipers with 320mm disc at the front and 230mm disc at the rear. Also complementing the 2023 edition is a new colour scheme inspired by the KTM racing background.
