Allianz Motorcycle Plus now offers enhanced protection for both riders and pillion for motorcycles 250cc and below.
Allianz also upgraded the Allianz Motorcycle Plus (Comprehensive or Third Party) with additional protection with Death/Permanent Disablement of RM10,000 each and Hospital Income up to RM6,000 each (RM100 per day, up to 60 days), at no extra cost.
“Motorcycle riders sometimes forgo additional coverage due to issues of affordability or lack of understanding of insurance. But being underinsured is unacceptable.
“Motorcycle riders are deserving of meaningful, affordable coverage, and we are happy to provide that through our latest enhanced of Allianz Motorcycle Plus.”
“With 90 percent of motorcycles on Malaysian roads being kapcai or under-bone models 250cc and below, we were adamant that the additional coverage be made available for comprehensive and third party policies at no extra cost.
“In such difficult times, we want riders to be able to put aside financial affordability and get the protection they deserve,” explained Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad CEO, Sean Wang.
According to Allianz General, the comprehensive coverage also includes additional coverage of all Special Perils Full Sum-Insured Protection (flood, landslides or any natural disasters) and includes roadside assistance by Allianz Road Rangers, at no extra cost.
Meanwhile, Allianz General also announced Mr. Roshisham Husain as the grand prize winner of the 111 Motorcycle Campaign and took home a brand new Honda CBR250RR worth RM25,999.
Allianz Motorcycle Plus insurance will offer the additional benefits of a personal accident insurance under one package at no added cost.
“Traditional” motorcycle insurance covers only the vehicle in the case of accidents or theft. Vehicle owners purchase this insurance when he renews his road tax. However, that insurace does not cover for personal injuries, disability of death.
Thus, in order to protect oneself, the vehicle owner needs to purchase another personal accident insurance policy.
This is where Allianz Motorcycle Plus differentiates itself. One could call it a 2-in-1 product which insures the motorcycle as well as the rider. However, the premium (price) remains the same as the same insurance for your motorcycle only.
There are two types of cover, of course – Allianz Motorcycle Plus (Comprehensive) and Allianz Motorcycle Plus (Third Party).
What drew our attention was the protection for “acts of god” (industry speak for natural disasters). None – if any – insurance covers your motorcycle for natural disasters.
While the accident cover and hospital income aren’t as high as provided by personal accident insurance, Allianz Motorcycle Plus (Comprehensive) makes it easy for riders to have such coverage. Many people, much less riders, in Malaysia aren’t covered by personal accident insurance or any type of insurance at all.
Including those benefits under one insurance also makes it easier for the policy holder to claim for injuries. There are many cases where the accident victim’s family members forget or are unaware of claiming from the insurance provider.
Allianz Malaysia will roll out Allianz Motorcycle Plus beginning 1stMay 2019. The insurance covers motorcycles from 245cc and below, only.

This line is oft-repeated, we know, but Thailand is such a hit with Malaysian bikers. However, do remember the risks when you consider renting a motorcycle there. Thailand is the second most dangerous country to drive in.
Our friends at Mekanika.com.my reported about a Malaysian couple who rented a motorcycle in Krabi. Unfortunately, their plans for the perfect vacation was dashed when they hit a local pedestrian. The pedestrian was killed in the accident.
As with local customs, the family of the deceased must be compensated. This is even more true if the party involved is a Farang (foreigner), and it didn’t matter even if it’s not your fault. The couple kena pao (was demanded to pay) more than RM 400,000! The sum was brought down to RM 200,000 after some intense negotiations. The couple needed to also pay for the damaged motorcycle.
This incident wasn’t the first and isn’t likely to be the last, honestly.
We have seen and heard of our riders kena pao for exorbitant amounts throughout his many trips into the Kingdom. Just like the incident above, you are at fault, as long as you are a Farang.
The best way is not to rent a motorcycle in Thailand. Let’s be realistic, though. Renting one is the easiest way to getting around. But rent it from a shop which offers insurance coverage. The insurance doesn’t break your wallet and you should always get it.
In conclusion, it’s always better to be over-insured than not at all.
