Harley-Davidson was once known as the bike to have for those who liked to cruise on straight roads and were not bothered about getting anywhere fast. The image of a Harley on an iconic American highway like Route 66 was what the brand was all about – the love for the open road.

Things have changed for the famous American though. Faced with dwindling profits and fierce competition from Europe and Japan, the company had to make a decision, either face the traditionalists head on and change the motorcycles it produced, or face being relegated to the pages of history.

The motorcycle world is undoubtedly grateful that the management chose the latter. These days the brand has moved on from the chrome and glitz and offers a model for just about any want and need. There are tourers, adventure bikes and even sports bikes. And to try them all out at one go, Harley-Davidson recently organised an event in Thailand called the Harley-Davidson Dirt, Road & Track (DRT) Experience.

Taking place in beautiful Khao Yai, this exhilarating event, now in its second iteration, aimed to showcase not only the iconic style but also the exceptional performance capabilities of Harley-Davidson motorcycles across a variety of terrains and venues. With roaring engines, the symphony of exhaust notes, and an atmosphere filled with excitement, the DRT Experience left participants with unforgettable memories and a deep appreciation for the brand.

While style has always been synonymous with the brand, it is often overshadowed by the perception that performance takes a back seat. However, the DRT Experience aimed to challenge this conception, proving that Harley-Davidson bikes and engines can rival some of the finest motorcycles in the world.

The event began with the Road segment, where participants embarked on a scenic ride up to the stunning Khao Yai National Park which was the country’s first national park. With the powerful Fat Bob 114 and its Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine at their disposal, riders could unleash the full potential of these machines.

The open road beckoned, and as the group set off, the thunderous roar of the engines resonated through the picturesque countryside. The Fat Bob’s commanding presence and torque made every twist of the throttle an exhilarating experience.

The wind rushing against their faces, participants revelled in the freedom and power that the Harley-Davidson motorcycles offered. Although the bikes were not allowed to venture into the serene national park due to their noise levels, participants experienced a bike swap on the journey back.

Transitioning to the Nightster, riders were treated to a comfortable yet dynamic riding experience, with its upright position and offset pedals adding to the overall enjoyment. The Nightster’s nimble handling and responsive engine provided a delightful balance between comfort and performance, making the journey back equally memorable.

Next was the Track section of the DRT Experience, which proved to be a favourite among participants. Harley-Davidson Asia had closed off the 8-Speed Khaoyai circuit, offering riders the opportunity to push the Nightster Special and Sportster S to their limits. As participants lined up at the starting line, anticipation filled the air. The green flag dropped, and engines roared to life as riders unleashed the power within.

The Nightster’s agility and precise handling allowed riders to navigate the circuit’s twists and turns with confidence. Its exceptional ground clearance ensured that no corner was too tight, as participants leaned into the curves.

Meanwhile, the Sportster S showcased its impressive power, propelling riders forward with every twist of the throttle, as the straightaways became a blur with the full thumping force of the Sportster S’s engine.

The sound of exhaust reverberated off the track’s walls, creating an auditory symphony that added to the overall thrill. For those accustomed to riding sports bikes, the chance to experience the thrill of a Harley-Davidson on a track was a revelation. It shattered preconceived notions and highlighted the performance capabilities that these motorcycles possess.

The final adventure of the DRT Experience was the Dirt section, which took riders on the Pan America across a small section of the Khao Yai countryside. This formidable motorcycle truly shined in this terrain, thanks to its 1250cc Revolution Max engine, which effortlessly conquered any obstacles in its path. As participants veered off the paved roads and onto the rugged terrain, they were greeted with undulating trails, loose surfaces, and challenging inclines.

The Pan America’s robust suspension and advanced electronics made conquering these obstacles feel like a Sunday morning joyride. With each twist of the throttle, the Pan America’s power was shocking yet buttery smooth. Its responsive handling and traction control instilled a sense of control and stability, even in the most challenging off-road conditions. Participants marvelled at the bike’s capabilities, appreciating its plug-and-play nature for off-road adventures.

However, what made the DRT Experience truly remarkable extended beyond the motorcycles themselves. Harley-Davidson has cultivated a deep cult like following over the years, and this event epitomized the unique and vibrant culture that surrounds the brand. Beyond the thunderous engines and the distinctive exhaust notes, participants also felt a sense of kinship and camaraderie.

They became part of a tight-knit family of like-minded individuals who share a passion for the freedom and exhilaration of riding on the open road. Whether it was bonding over shared experiences on the track, discussing the unique challenges of off-road riding, or simply admiring each other’s bikes, the DRT Experience fostered a sense of community that is truly unparalleled.

The Harley-Davidson DRT Experience 2023 was an exceptional event that provided enthusiasts with the opportunity to explore the full range of Harley-Davidson motorcycles in a safe and exciting environment. It celebrated not only the power, versatility, and style that have made Harley-Davidson a legend in the motorcycle industry but also the vibrant community that accompanies it. Participants left with a profound appreciation for the brand, its motorcycles, and the camaraderie that exists among Harley-Davidson enthusiasts.

The DRT Experience showcased the undeniable performance capabilities of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, proving that they can stand toe-to-toe with some of the finest machines in the world. For anyone seeking an unforgettable experience on two wheels, the Harley-Davidson DRT Experience is an absolute must-try. It is an invitation to embrace the freedom, power, and unity that the open road and the Harley-Davidson community have to offer.

Harley-Davidson, in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp, has finally unveiled its highly anticipated motorcycle, the Harley-Davidson X440.

  • This new model aims to attract new riders and budget-conscious individuals with its approachable retro-style design and versatility for city riding.
  • The Harley-Davidson X440 will be available in three variants: Classic, Vivid, and Pinnacle. While all three models share the same foundation, they differ in styling cues and trim options.

The Classic variant, priced at INR229,000 (RM13k), features spoked wheels and monotone colourways, with a blacked-out engine for a sleek appearance. The Vivid model, priced at INR249,000 (RM14k), comes with alloy wheels and two-tone color schemes.

The top-tier Pinnacle variant, retailing at INR269,000 (RM15k), boasts two-tone alloy wheels, striking color combinations with 3D decals, and machined cooling fins for a premium aesthetic.

Under the X440’s chassis lies a 440cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine. Delivering 27 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 26 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm, this motorcycle competes favourably with other retro-style 400cc bikes on the market. Power is transferred to the rear wheel via a six-speed manual transmission, enhanced with an assist slipper clutch for a smoother and more comfortable ride.

Designed to tackle India’s challenging road conditions, the Harley-Davidson X440 features robust and modern underpinnings. It comes equipped with a 43mm  inverted front fork and gas-powered, preload-adjustable twin shocks at the rear.

The bike relies on front and rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS, provided by Brembo subsidiary ByBre, to ensure reliable stopping power. Additionally, the X440 rides on 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels fitted with MRF Zapper Hyke tires.

While the X440’s tech package remains simple, featuring only dual-channel ABS, it does offer a minimalist TFT display pod and a full set of LED lights. Notably, the motorcycle lacks traction control and rider modes, emphasising a back-to-basics approach.

With the launch of the Harley-Davidson X440, the iconic American motorcycle brand aims to tap into the Indian market’s growing demand for affordable and beginner-friendly motorcycles.

Harley-Davidson is raising the bar for the motorcycle riding experience with the introduction of two premium 2023 models from Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO).

  • The new CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide models not only showcase advanced technology but also enhance rider comfort and deliver dynamic performance, thanks to the powerful new Milwaukee-Eight VVT 121 engine.
  • These exclusive models present a transformative revision of the iconic Harley-Davidson Grand American Touring platform.

Jochen Zeitz, the Chairman, President, and CEO of Harley-Davidson, expressed his excitement about the new models, stating, “With the all-new CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide models, our mission is to advance every aspect of the Grand American Touring motorcycling experience. These models set a new standard for Harley-Davidson performance, technology, and style, accelerating the evolution of the world’s most desirable motorcycle brand.”

The new CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide models feature stunning designs that have evolved from the classic shapes of previous Grand American Touring motorcycles. Integrated venting and LED signature lighting with integrated turn signals are incorporated into the fairings of both models.

Notable design elements include a trimmed front fender, a distinctively beveled 6-gallon fuel tank, and saddlebags that harmonise with the fairings and fuel tank with their three-dimensional shape. The bold custom statement is further reinforced by the new Combo Cast Laced wheels, featuring a black machine-cut cast-aluminum rim and laced spokes. Each model will be available in two highly detailed finish options.

Setting a new benchmark for factory-installed torque and displacement in a Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycle, the new 121-cubic inch V-Twin Milwaukee-Eight VVT 121 engine delivers exceptional performance. It features optimised liquid-cooled cylinder heads with a new cooling system, variable valve timing, a redesigned intake tract, and a performance exhaust system. The development of the CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide models carefully considered every aspect of design to enhance overall performance and comfort.

These models weigh significantly less than their predecessors, with a reduction of 31 pounds for the CVO Street Glide model and 35 pounds for the CVO Road Glide model. High-performance front and rear SHOWA suspension components provide confident handling and greatly improve rider comfort compared to previous CVO models, with rear suspension travel increased by 50 percent. Premium Brembo braking components ensure outstanding braking feel and performance, enhancing rider confidence.

*2023 Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide

A notable feature of the CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide models is the introduction of selectable Ride Modes – Road, Sport, and Rain – which electronically control power delivery, engine braking, Cornering-Antilock Braking System (C-ABS), and Cornering-Traction Control System (C-TCS) settings.

The models prioritize aero and thermal comfort through all-new fairings with a “floating” windshield design and adjustable air-control vanes. In wind tunnel testing, these improvements resulted in a 60 percent reduction in subjective helmet buffeting compared to equivalent 2022 models. The new engine cooling system further enhances thermal comfort for riders compared to previous CVO models.

Embracing cutting-edge technology, the CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide models introduce an all-new suite of infotainment technology powered by the Skyline OS. Replacing analog instrumentation and most switches, a customizable 12.3-inch TFT color touch screen offers three distinct view options and is compatible with Apple and Android devices.

Wireless connectivity through Wi-Fi enables riders to connect their devices seamlessly, while a built-in Bluetooth receiver facilitates wireless headset use. These models also feature expanded media storage compartments with a USB-C connection point. A premium Harley-Davidson Audio powered by Rockford Fosgate Stage II four-speaker audio system, boasting a new 500-watt RMS amplifier, enhances the overall riding experience.

The CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide models will make their U.S. public debut during the Harley-Davidson Homecoming Festival in Milwaukee from July 13-16, 2023. Authorized Harley-Davidson dealer showrooms worldwide will have both models available in mid-July.

Harley-Davidson enthusiasts and motorcycle aficionados alike have been eagerly anticipating the unveiling of the highly anticipated made-in-India bike from the iconic American manufacturer.

  • The X440 is born out of partnership between Harley-Davidson and India’s giant, Hero MotorCorp.
  • Powering the X440 is a single-cylinder oil-cooled 440cc engine.

Now, after months of speculation, Harley-Davidson has officially introduced the world to their latest creation: the Harley-Davidson X440. This motorcycle is the result of the collaboration between Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp, and it brings a refreshing change to the table with its distinct design.

The Harley-Davidson X440 breaks away from the brand’s traditional cruiser aesthetics and takes inspiration from the classic XR roadsters. With its flat handlebar, neutral ergonomics, and robust appearance, this bike promises to deliver a unique riding experience.

At the heart of the X440 sits an oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 440cc. Unfortunately, the power figures will only be reveal during the bike’s official launch in July.

Ergonomically, the X440 maintains a neutral stance, departing from the typical forward-set footpegs and swept-back handlebars of cruisers. The mid-set footpegs and flat handlebar, mounted on substantial risers, promote an upright and possibly slightly sporty riding position, ensuring comfort during urban rides.

While several aspects of the X440 remain consistent with the initial images, there have been some changes, particularly in the choice of tires. The motorcycle now gets MRF tires instead of CEAT. With 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel sizes, the X440 exudes a commanding presence on the road.

The attention to detail on the X440 is evident, with circular design elements present in the headlights, indicators, and mirrors. The oval-shaped tail-lamp adds a unique touch, emerging from the rear fender. Notably, the headlight features an LED DRL bar running across its center, while the indicators boast intricate Harley logos.

Beneath its striking bodywork, the X440 features a tubular frame with a single-downtube design. It boasts an upside-down fork and preload-adjustable twin shock absorbers, ensuring a comfortable and responsive ride. Additionally, the motorcycle is equipped with a single disc brake at both ends, accompanied by dual-channel ABS as standard.

Harley-Davidson has officially announced the upcoming launch of its 2023 CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide models.

  • The reveal is set to happen on June 7, but some details have already been unveiled.
  • The two new motorcycles, to be equipped with an all-new Milwaukee-Eight VVT 121 engine.

Firstly, both models will feature a new Milwaukee-Eight VVT 121 engine, a variable valve timing system, and new suspension. The variable valve timing system will allow Harley-Davidson to tune the engine for better performance at both high and low speeds. The CVOs’ new suspension is said to be “all-new,” with inverted forks at the front and a new monoshock system at the rear.

The new CVO models also boast dramatically redesigned fairings, which have already received mixed reactions from fans of the brand.

*Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide.

The CVO Street Glide’s fairing has been updated to better integrate with the fuel tank, side covers, and saddlebags. It features an “Omega-shaped” light and LED strips on either side of the fairing that serve as forward turn signals.

On the other hand, the CVO Road Glide’s fairing offers a more dramatic change, with a broader headlight that includes integrated turn signals.

*Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide.

Nevertheless, both models receive a new infotainment system, with a large digital display that replaces the previous analog dials. The display will show vital data and control over the audio system, and it’s expected to provide information on electronics, although Harley-Davidson hasn’t confirmed this yet.

Harley-Davidson’s 2023 CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide models are set to be powerful and stylish cruisers that come with significant updates over their predecessors. While the new fairing designs have received mixed reactions, fans of the brand are eagerly awaiting the full reveal on June 7 to get a better look at these two new models.

The S2 Del Mar is LiveWire’s second model, with a promised city range of 170 kilometres and a 0-100 kmh time of 3.1 seconds. The electric powertrain produces 250Nm of torque.

Charging the battery from 20 to 80 percent on a Level 2 charger is said to take 75 minutes. LiveWire has also announced that reservations for the ultra-limited S2 Del Mar Launch Edition will open on April 27, with only 100 units available for the European market.

The Launch Edition models will feature unique hand-applied graphics and paint in Himalaya White that takes five days to complete.

The S2 Del Mar is LiveWire’s most affordable model, with the LiveWire One still priced at USD22,799 (RM101k). The LiveWire One has a greater range estimated at 235km, while the S2 Del Mar is intended for city riding with a range of 170km. The production version of the S2 Del Mar will be available in blue, black, or gray and will be assembled at Harley’s Vehicle Operations plant in York, Pennsylvania.

Overall, the S2 Del Mar is expected to be a significant addition to LiveWire’s lineup, offering a more affordable and accessible option for those interested in electric motorcycles. With its promising specs and sleek design, the S2 Del Mar is sure to attract attention from riders and enthusiasts alike.

Harley-Davidson fans have something new to get excited about as the company’s upcoming CVO Street Glide 121 has been unveiled in new certification filings in Australia.

  • The 2024 CVO Street Glide to feature extensive styling.
  • The new generation motorcycle is powered by a new 121 cubic inches powertrain.

The bike features a substantially reworked batwing fairing with a squared-off LED headlight and a more modern, aerodynamic look.

Other changes include a new front-fender design with innovative wheels, floating brake discs, and larger side cases topped with speakers.

The CVO Street Glide’s main draw is likely to be its engine, with “121” badges denoting its capacity in cubic inches, and the anticipated employment of the variable valve timing system for better emissions.

While still largely air-cooled, the bike has a big cooler sitting in a blacked-out piece of bodywork just ahead of the motor.

Meanwhile, Harley-Davidson is also expected to launch a similarly updated CVO Road Glide later this year.

Harley-Davidson has made headlines once again with the launch of its new X 500 roadster, just weeks after unveiling the X 350 and “leaked” spy shots of the Hero MotoCorp-developed 4XX.

  • The X500 is the result of a partnership between Harley-Davidson and Chinese brand QJ Motor.
  • The motorcycle is based on the Benelli Leoncino 500.

Sharing many components with the Leoncino, the X500 boasts a 500cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, producing 47hp and 46Nm, as well as a steel tube frame, 50mm USD fork, offset monoshock, and 17-inch alloy wheels. However, the X500 sets itself apart visually with its neoteric styling, taking cues from the Harley-Davidson XR1200X.

The bike’s features are minimal, including a monopod semi-digital instrument console with a digital inset and dual-channel ABS as the only electronic aid.

The only notable departure from the classic Harley-Davidson aesthetic is the integration of rear indicators with the tail lights.

With a kerb weight of 208kg, the X500 is a heavy machine that promises to deliver the signature Harley-Davidson riding experience while appealing to a wider global audience.
