2019 BMW S 1000 RR will come with MotoGP technology?

  • The 2019 BMW S 1000 RR is said to be equipped with some very interesting MotoGP-inspired technology.

  • No news of the next-generation BMW superbike is out yet but Gulf Althea BMW Racing Team boss confirms that they might get it for the upcoming season.

  • Some say that it’ll carry a counter-rotating crankshaft used in MotoGP bikes, updated electronics and a power boost.

There’s no surprise that the world of superbikes is getting more and more advanced as days go by and manufacturers around the world are prepping themselves for the next generation race-inspired sports bikes. BMW Motorrad is no exception and the next-generation BMW S 1000 RR might be the best one yet.

As of now, there are only rumours and news going around online regarding the new BMW S 1000 RR and nothing more. However, the WorldSBK folks over at Gulf Althea BMW Racing Team have stated that they will be using the new 2019 machine in the upcoming season. Oh, goodie…

Team boss Genesio Bevilacqua recently confirmed this in an interview with GPOne stated a few things about continuing their race effort with the German manufacturer. This is mainly due to the fact that the new 2019 BMW S 1000 RR will only be able to be delivered to them sometime in February which is cutting it quite close to the season opener.

In other words, the new BMW superbike is well on its way for us fans here in the streets but they might have to fast-forward a few things if they’re planning to continue their racing division in WorldSBK (preferably during the post and pre-season testing sessions, of course).

No other news apart from one, a very interesting one. The 2019 machine is said to be incorporated with a race-inspired part, the counter-rotating crankshaft. This MotoGP-inspired tech is not found in many street bikes and machines like the Ducati Panigale V4 has begun incorporating them in the power plant.

This technological marvel assists in increasing the bike’s overall agility and ability to change directions efficiently. The counter-rotating crankshaft creates a torque that also helps with keeping the front end on the ground during accelerations and cutting down rear-wheel lifts under heavy braking.

Other expected upgrades include a brand new electronics package and a significant power upgrade for its already top-of-the-line 999cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke in-line 4-cylinder engine which produces a whopping 199hp and 113Nm of torque.

Experts in the field also expected the technology embedded in the super awesome BMW HP4 Race to trickle down to the next-generation BMW S 1000 RR. Expect the new bike to be unveiled at the end of the year during EICMA 2018. Stay tuned to Bikes Republic for more updates.
