MotoGP: Marquez sets fastest lap yet in Buriram on Day 2

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) celebrated his 25th birthday with style yesterday after setting the fastest ever lap time in Buriram.

Dani Pedrosa was not too far behind sitting at P2 with a 1:30.127.

Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing) continues to impress everyone by setting the third fastest lap of the day with his Ducati.

The second day of the MotoGP 2018 pre-season test in Buriram saw a mixture of results but the boys from Repsol Honda sealed the deal by setting the fastest times of the day. Marc Marquez celebrated his 25th birthday in style by being the first rider ever to lap the Buriram International Circuit below 1 minute 30 seconds at 1:29.969.

Dani Pedrosa also showed quite a strong performance with a 1:30.127 early on in the session. It seems that the Honda boys are quite happy with their 2018 setup and news have circulated that they’ve already finalised the engines that they’ll be using for the 2018 season.

Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing) continued to impress the entire MotoGP field by setting the third fastest time of the day with a 1:30.185. It seems that the young Aussie’s riding style is perfectly paired with the Ducati Desmosedici GP17 as he was only 0.058 seconds behind factory Honda rider, Dani Pedrosa.

Maverick Vinales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) seems to have improved ever so slightly with a P4 yesterday. It seems that the young Spaniard has found a way to overcome the mysterious electronic issues that have been hampering the performance of their Yamaha M1 ever since the last day of the Sepang winter test.

Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) was not too far behind at P5 with at 1:30.360. Despite riding last year’s machinery, Zarco managed to set the fifth fastest time of the day which was a fraction faster than Danilo Petrucci (Alma Pramac Racing) and his Ducati Desmosedici GP18.

Alex Rins (Team SUZUKI ECSTAR) also had his fair share of good lap times which ended in P7 ahead of LCR Honda Castrol and full-factory backed Honda rider, Cal Crutchlow. Both riders had their share of crashes yesterday but ultimately improved overall in the second day of the Thai Test.

The Ducati factory riders completed the top ten fastest riders with Andrea Dovizioso in P9 and Jorge Lorenzo in P10. Both riders were focused more on testing a bunch of different aerofairings yesterday which may be the reason why they weren’t too focus on setting the fastest laps.

Our homeboy Hafizh Syahrin managed to improve his riding on the Yamaha M1 provided by the Monster Yamaha Tech3 squad. Despite finishing Day 2 in P23, he did however managed to ride around the circuit faster by almost two seconds. Not bad at all as this is only his second day on the Yamaha M1.
