MotoGP: Aleix Espargaro stays with Aprilia until 2020

Aleix Espargaro has confirmed his stay with the Aprilia Racing Team Gresini for the next two seasons.

A new two-year contract has been signed which means that the Spaniard will pilot the Aprilia RS-GP until the end of 2020.

No news about Aprilia’s second rider just yet.

Just before things kick off at the 2018 HJC Helmets Grand Prix de France, Aleix Espargaro has confirmed his contract extension with the Aprilia Racing Team Gresini squad for another two seasons. This means that the 28-year-old Spaniard will be piloting the Aprilia RS-GP until the end of 2020.

This comes to as no surprise considering how fast the Aprilia RS-GP MotoGP project has gotten up since its return a couple of years back. Aleix has put in quite a few outstanding laps on board the MotoGP machinery and will continue his duty to further develop the bike into a very competitive machine in the coming years.

According to Aleix Espargaro, “I am very happy to stay with Aprilia for another two years. For the first time in my career, I am able to have stability and this is important to improve and grow together. I have a sole objective, an obsession and that is to take the RS-GP to the podium. I wish to thank Aprilia and my entire team. We will continue working at 100% through 2020.”

As for Aprilia Racing Manager, Romano Albesiano, “This renewal is the first and foremost acknowledgment of Aleix’s qualities. He is a fast rider and an exemplary professional. From the time he arrived, he has brought passion and motivation to the garage with a positive effect on the entire team.”

“His contribution to the growth of the RS-GP is undeniable and I am certain that the next two years will allow us to achieve important results and above all that they will bring us back to involving, thrilling and inspiring young people and the many fans that Aprilia has all over the world. The signs are there, so giving the technical project continuity with a rider who knows the team and bike well lets us plan development in the best possible way with an eye to the future,” added Albesiano.

Qualifying sessions of the 2018 MotoGP French round will start tomorrow (Saturday) from 6.35pm whereas the races on Sunday will start from 5.00pm onwards (local times).
